I am open to all suggestions since I know nothing about sneakers in general...HA!
Where are you in NJ? I have an excellent store for you if you are in the Southern New Jersey/Philadelphia area.
it's not so much the brand of the shoe but it's fit! you could get expensive, 'good brand' shoes, but if they don't fit your feet then it's just a waste of good money. (i am partial towards asics, saucony and mizuno though! ^^||)
shoedog is a pretty good guide for selecting shoes suitable for yourself though. If you go to the left hand panel and click start, you just need to go through the cycle of questions (what's your foot size, arch, so on), and it'll try to generate the shoes most suitable for you. you could go to a shoe shop with this knowledge in mind, in case you do meet up with salesmen who are more interested in hard-selling than actually helping you get shoes that fit you! good luck!
I would imagine you have plenty of name-brand shoe stores around you. Google New Balance, Adidas, Nike, etc and find a store near you. Not a store that sells them but an actual NB or whatever store. They aren't as plentiful as, say, a Foot Locker, but in my opinion they are more knowledgeable about your foot type. I got fitted at a New Balance store and they did a superb job, my feet are so happy LOL. So I would recommend trying that.
