I run on a treadmill and crank it up to what is comfortable with me. Just curious to see what speeds people are running at if they know. I thought this pace was more on the jogging level, but after taking note of whatever around me were doing, I guess I am at a nice running speed. BTW my pace is 5 mph at an incline of 1.5. If I have a 0 incline it's 5.3-5.5. I get slower from being tired at the later laps.
You are certainly doing better then me. I just picked up running (c25K) and jog at 4.5 mph. I will stay at that speed until I can jog for 30 mins. I am at 16 minutes now. I think i want to get to around 5.5-6 mph. I wonder what the experienced runners are doing.....
I've been running for about 8 months, and that's faster than I do. I'd gotten to the point where I could run a mile in 12 min (5 mph) but that was the farthest I could maintain that speed. Then I switched to working on distance over speed, and now I'm going 5 miles at about 14:00 miles. Or, well, I was before I pulled a muscle doing lunges three weeks ago, and haven't been able to run since. Who knows where I'll be when I can finally get back to running, which I miss dreadfully.
I usually start a warm-up jog around 6.0 and run for 30 minutes, increasing the speed to where I end up at 7.0 for the last 5 minutes. At the end of 30 min I've usually gone about 3.3 miles, I think it averages out to just under a 10min mile but I have yet to set it at a particular pace for an entire mile. I also try to keep it at a 1.0 incline because I read that is most similiar to outside running.
My goal is to get down to about that, Karen. Right now I do 3 miles in 35 and I plan on trying to knock of 1 minute per week for the next 6 weeks. My b/f blows my mind. He can run a mile for his warm up in 6 minutes. and then 5 miles in less than 40. Wonder if I will ever be able to do that. LOL
i don't run on a treadmill. on the road, i do a little better than 6mph (6-minute kilometers, on a good day); on the trails, probably 4.5.
i walk for a minute and a half at 3.5 then run for about one song at 5.3, one song at 5.6, two at 5.9, two at 6.2 and then depending on how much i want to run that day, i either do another at 6.5 or i just finish out sprinting at like 7.2. Oh an most of my songs are about 3-4 minutes. Lately though, after every three songs i will run one straight minute at 8. I have heard bursts high intensity are beneficial.
I do HIIT training on my treadmill which for me consists of walking at a fast pace 5 mph and then running at 8 mph at the top of my incline level 15 and I do it 6 days a week...3 days 1 hr and 3 days 1/2 hour.
doesn't anybody go outside anymore?
I go outside but its to run in 10k's etc...I find after running for over 30 years my knees have taken a pounding from the pavement so the impact resistant platform from the treadmill makes life much nicer.
I run outside weather and time permitting; I try to avoid running outside at night. I'm just getting back into running after laying off for a while and am at 11 minute mile pace which is a little over 5 mph. I hope to get faster, last year before I stopped running I was at 8 minute mile pace which was fast for me.
When it rains I run on the treadmill at the gym, and I do 2-3 minute intervals to keep from getting bored.
During my lunch hour on most days I run for about 38 min and do between 4 and 4.50 miles in that time. I warm up at a 4.0 walking and then run 6.5 for 4 min then at a 6.7 for 5 min. Then I will either do 10 minutes of HIIT changing every 30 seconds from a 9.2 to a 6.5 or I will run at a 7.0 Then for the last 18 min I change my speed constantly but never dropping below a 6.7 until my last 2 min or so when I start to bring down my heart rate. I like to do different speeds every time I run. Sometimes I will do 10 min of 30 second intervals of 7.0 and 8.0 (or higher) and then my favorite speed of a 6.7 and 7.3 interval for 5 minutes after that. Somedays I just run the whole time at a 6.7. The weekends I run outside for about 1 hour and 30 min. Usually between 6 and 9 miles. Somedays more somedays less. My routine always is changing....but I love to run!

I run outside and I love it!!
I have a Nike plus iPod sensor, which helps track my distance, speed, etc while running. I usually run about a 9 minute mile during my workouts, although it varies a little depending on the distance I run. On my longer distance days (7-8 miles right now), I usually average about 9:30 per mile. I've also been racing some 5Ks and I tend to run those a bit faster, averaging around 8:10-8:15 per mile.
I highly recommend getting outside if you can. I find that running on the treadmill is much different than (and not a good substitute for) running outside. There are just aspects of running outside that you can't replicate on a treadmill. If weather is keeping you inside right now, then try it in the spring. You won't be disappointed!
i just started couch25k last week and warm up at 5mph and jog at 6mph which ill prob stay at till i can do 5k
i run 7.2miles for about 1hour 15...and then walk about about 4.5 (my treadmil says it's a jog but it seems like more of a brisk walk to me)....when is started running 2 years ago i was running about 5.2 for half an hour...and then i just slowly built up every 2 weeks.
dont do treadmill anymore but i jogged 4.5 mph on incline of 8 for around 30 minutes sometimes more
well im 14 and when im on like treadmills and stuff it says around 6-7 while walking, not too sure whether thats km or miles but most people i know say 4 is average, btw im australian so should be kilometres
I run my 1 mile in about 7min which is about 8 mph. I run 3+ miles every other day on normal weeks(haven't been steady on pt the past month 1/2) I've found i cant really run on a treadmillI stare at how far I've gone and the calories I've burned and it slows me down . I much prefer just running outside and taking in everything which living in a foreign country is half the fun of my run. The only good aspect of a treadmill i can see is that the shock to your legs can be less but if you are young/running for fun/very fit it shouldn't be much of a problem anyway. Just stop when it hurts to not injure yourself.
I used to do 4mins at 5.7 then 3mins at 7.2 until I tired myself out. This was how I managed to do my first 10k without noticing. I was so chuffed ![]()
I have to admit though, I haven't done any running for about 3-4weeks now since I felt like I had got into a fitness rut. I'd love to run outside like I used to last year (I was living in a small town over the water from the city I now live in) but there are just too many REALLY steep hills around my flat.
To avoid shin splints and knee injuries, I pump the incline up to 8 and do a light jog at 5 mph.
Fast speeds can cause injuries from what I experienced.
I love running outside. WAY more than indoors. But with my long commute, it's not possible during the week, so I use an indoor track for my easy and training runs, and then my favorite run is the long run first thing Saturday morning in a nearby forest preserve.
