Running - How to track mileage?
Does anyone have recommendations on an accurate device to record running mileage and pace/etc?
I am going to begin training for a 10K and want to be able to keep close track.
Thanks!
Hi,
I use two different websites for my running. I use http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ to track how long my run was. It is just google maps and it lets you see how long your run was. Its very good and there are a few other websites like it, but I haven't had any problems with it so its the one that I use.
As far as logging the run, I use http://www.running-log.com which is a great website. It allows you track distance, time, pace, and even the shoes that you use (in order to track the mileage on the shoes...). I love it and it gives you some nice stats on week/month/year as well as some other neat tricks.
Hope this helps - I use these rather than using any kind of device on my person... since I find them extremely irritating. I would also recommend using a website like http://www.runnersworld.com and seeing what they think of various devices.
Good luck!
If you want a "device", then you have a couple of options, from cheap to expensive:
Nike Foot Pod
Garmin Forerunner 50 w/foot pod
Garmin Forerunner 201, 205,301,305, 405
Suunto (various)
Some of these come with GPS. Others use the foot pod to measure your steps then estimate your distance. Each has its plus and minuses, but the GPS is more expensive.
If you just need a website to plan your routes and calculate your distances, then running-ahead.com is also a good one in addition to what doublej812 has mentioned.
I just take a peek at my miliage i leave the house, drive on my street until it hits a fresh number, and then drive around my jogging circuit!
Mapmyrun tracks everything you could wish for...
