Ok, so I work at a restaurant and I eat lunch there everyday - the chef makes me egg whites and spinach with 1 slices of provolone cheese (with no oil) and I usually eat it all on a piece of toast - I've been going for the wheat toast, which I noticed was 100 calories/slice. However, I scoured the nutrition labels a little more and realized it's the "bad" kind of wheat bread that isn't very wholesome or clean - it only has 1 gram of fiber and 1 gram of protein - the ingredient list is miles long and the first ingredient is "enriched flour". Yuck! I think I'm going to switch to the rye bread. It's homemade so I don't know how many calories or anything are in it - but I think it's probably better? Is this a ridiculous assumption? I don't know anything about rye bread but this wheat bread is no better than white bread! Should I just skip the carb all together?

it would be difficult to say how many calories are in the homemade rye bread. However, if they have pita bread you could go with that. Its only about 77 cals for a 4" diameter one. but you might run into the same problem as with the wheat bread.

you could always skip the toast altogether. Thats probably your best option. Then you can use those calories for something else. Maybe 100 cal soup or fresh veggies/fruit.

I guess it's up to you if you want to skip the carb all together... But in my opinion- RYE! RYE! RYE! I love the stuff!

My morning breakfast is always a slice of Rye bread- 75 cals and a half a wedge of laughing cow herb & garlic light cheese spread on top... Mmmmm.... tastes just like a bagel for under 100cals!  And Rye Bread gets an A- on CC.

I'm a carb addict, so by having that every day, I don't find that I long for carbs the rest of the day. When I first started here and tried to cut most carbs out of my diet, I craved Rye toast something fierce!

If you can get the recipe from the chef and find out how many slices are in one loaf then you can plug it into the new recipe section and find out the nutrition value of each slice. I find that the best part of this site because I can get the info for the foods I really eat:)
