180's club
Heyyy Zulu! Welcome back! Don't feel bad...I am a big ol' yo yo myself. I am trying really hard to get into some fitness. I'm kinda at square one too. How tall are you?? Being a nurse also, I know it's really hard to eat right, and by the time you get home, there is no way you want to exercise!!! Great job 1st week! I am not supposed to weigh myself for a month (hubby took the scale cuz I was obsessing) But I snuck on it..(BAD BAD GIRL!!!) and I gained!!! Ackkkkk!
I guess I need to try harder.
TTYL!!
k9 ~ I saw on the tv how strong the winds are! WOW! Hope they aren't like that where you are! The palm trees were just blowing over like they were gonna break in half! So scarey! Those couple pounds are prob just water! Check it tomorrow. It'll prob be gone. Maybe you didn't derink enuf water for the amount of sodium you had or something. Just a guess!
Or if you worked out hard, your muscles could be retaining water to heal.
ladyelizabeth ~ How much of a gain was it? Did you weigh yourself in the morning before eating? Hope it wasn't a big gain. I'd be lost without my scale! I weigh myself everyday, but take an average for the week since I go up and down so much. It works for me. ![]()
I'll check in again later on tonight! :D
Good evening everyone!!!!!!
Zulu--welcome back!!!! Hopefully we'll all get though the ups and downs together. And I just know we are all going to do it this time.
momof2-how are you doing this evening? I hope your leg is better!!!! I bought a new car last week and I was worried about budgeting so I quit with the personal trainer. Decided yesterday that I would just make it work, but my spot has already been filled. So I guess it's just the wii for me. I am going to have to make myself do it in the mornings before work. I love it once I start, it's just starting at 5 am. Yukk!!!!
k9stylist-how are you today? Thanks for the info!!!!! How is the rain?? I hope it has slacked up some. We are under heavy storm warnings, but I don't think it is "Faye" yet. So if I disappear, just a loss of power and "I'll be back".
Ladyeliz- I agree with you, after work I don't want to do anything!!!! I just don't want to get up early to exercise either. But, starting tomorrow I just have to make myself, so that is my short short-term goal. I guess I should probably put my scale away. I am so disappointed when 2-3 days go by and there is no loss and I know all of the reasons there wouldn't be, but it is still disappointing.![]()
Ladyelizabeth~ Don't feel too bad about the gain, you're not the only one! I'm in the same boat too. :( At least you're not alone.
Momof2~ They always make everything look so scary on tv, but it's not like that here... yet. It's hardly rained today... a few heavy showers and then it stops. The bad part of the storm hasn't hit us yet. We're still a little north of it and then they're saying it may change direction and come back towards us again... we're not really sure how bad we're going to get it yet because they say it's gotten stronger too. We'll see. I hope you're right about the water weight, thanks. :D
ro50bin~ I'm doing okay today... not too much rain as of yet. I was even able to walk my dog when I got home from work. Yeah, you're probably not getting any Fay effects quite yet... it's still a little below me. I'm sure the rain and winds will pick up soon. Same with me, if I disappear I'll be back when I get power again. :D Hopefully it'll dissipate quite a bit before it reaches you.
Just finished working out... Did a 50 minute fast walk/jogging and an hour and 20 minutes on the Wii Fit doing all the strength training, yoga, some boxing & basic step. I ate around 1550 calories for the day and drank 3 liters of green tea and over a liter and a half of plain ol' water! Now, if that doesn't help me get rid of those few extra pounds, I have no idea what will! Planning on running tomorrow morning too and hopefully some wii fit again too. Oh, and I walked the dog earlier, but she can't go very far cause of the knee... only about 15 minutes or so. :D
Still waiting for Tropical Storm Fay... should hit us overnight.
Wendy~ LOVE the ipod!!! :D
Have a good night everyone & hopefully I'll be back on tomorrow. *crossing fingers no power loss*
k9 ~ hope you're doing ok down there in Fl!!! Hopefully we'll here from you soon!
I'm going to the dr this afternoon @ 1. I'm stressing alittle over this bc I know theya re going to ask me if I appealed the decision of the ins co (they denied a procedure they want to do). I'm not appealing it and I keep telling them that. I wish they'd leave it alone.
well, off to the shower! Talk to you all later on this afternoon!
Good afternoon everyone! :D
momof2~ I'm doing okay down here... the storm wasn't all that bad. Woke up a few times overnight because the rain was just beating against the windows. Mostly just a bunch of rain and wind. It's still raining and breezy, but not bad at all right now. That stinks that the Dr. keeps bugging you about an insurance issue... Hope your appointment goes well! :)
Got onto the scale again this morning and.... 139!!! Yay, I'm so happy that I'm back where I should be... must have been water weight or something. I'm drinking plenty of water today and have already done and hour and 20 minutes of wii fit and am just getting ready to get onto the treadmill for some walking/jogging. :D
Hope Faye was okay to you guys in FL.
I'm trying to be good, ate way too many chocs at work last night but counted the cals and scales still saying its going down so I'm happy, would love to be 181 come mon...that would be a weight loss of 3lbs this week? We'll see how I do this coming weekend!
Hi everyone!
I took Monday off from exercise too because my hip was still bothering me some.. Yesterday I spent most of the day on our boat with my hubby and some friends.. we fished some and drank and had a good time.. I dont drink very often, but yesterday I had 5 or 6 Mike's hard lemonades..it was spaced out over several hours, so I never had much more than a good buzz going on, but I checked the calorie content this morning, and ouch! 220 cal a bottle! blah! And then to top it off, they ordered pizzas in the evening when we got back from fishing.. so yesterday ended up being a bad binge day for me :( We got home about 8:30pm or so, and I had gotten my shoes so I decided to try them out..
They fit pretty nice, and I thought I would try them for a run. I still had a slight buzz going on, and probably didnt stretch very good, and my oldest son wanted to come along too. My left hip that has been bothering me was surprisingly just fine, but I think I pulled something or did something to my right leg.. It started bothering me about half way through the run, but I kept going. my son started out strong, running ahead and coming back.. he can sprint pretty quick.. but I think he tired himself out too fast.. By the time we were halfway through my route, he was lagging behind.. and then eventually I had to keep running back to him so he wouldnt be left behind! He says he wont go with me anymore unless he's on his bike..lol.. By the time my podrunner was done, I was limping home... I had pain shooting down my hamstring, down the back of my knee and wrapping around my calf and shin.. I propped up my leg and put an ice pack on my shin when I went to bed last night, but still kind of sore today. So I guess I need to rest some more, but I really dont want to take a break! ooo frustrating!
k9, Glad to hear the storm isnt too bad.. hopefully it wont gain strength and come back! I knew you would love the ipod.. are you still doing the couch to 5k? I tried week 3 last night, and it was a little different.. I guess I didnt realize that the last segment before the cool down is a walk, so after the tone sounded I started running again, and then soon was thinking that the running segment seemed awful long, and then the music ended..here I had run through the cool down! At least the route I take is a little longer, so I had another block or so left before I got home for a cool down... but since I hurt my leg, I just wanted to get home and was pretty much limping the rest of the way.. You are doing so great, with your exercise and eating! Good for you, losing the water weight so quick! I am trying to drink a ton of water and tea today too.. after my binge yesterday.. grr. . hopefully wont be too much damage..just wish my leg was feeling better so I could be more active today! The brownies and muffins sound great.. for the brownies can you just use any brownie mix, or is there a certain brand?
momof2, So sorry your leg is feeling so bad! I'm kind of in the same boat.. hopefully your doc can figure something to help you out.. good luck!
Newlook, Great job on your early gym sessions! I know I would have a hard time sticking with that.. i am so not a morning person.. and awesome avoiding the treats at work... I try to play little mind games when I am faced with treats like that.. I imagine the food covered with bugs or spiders or maggots or something disgusting.. and then that helps me not want it! Works sometimes..
Zulu, congrats on the new job coming up here! What will you be doing? and great job staying down on your calories! I think it is hardest when starting out, or starting out again (which I have had to do many times too!).. seems like it takes awhile for the body to get used to reducing the calories-- at least for me-- and then seem so hungry for the first couple of weeks or so until I kind of get used to it.
ro50bin, I cant wait for my vacation either! hopefully that part of Florida held up alright with Faye.. I dont blame you for not wanting to start out at 5 am! Thats too bad you lost your spot with the trainer.. can you be put on a waiting list or something? Im sure you'll find a way to keep getting some exercise in..
ladyelizabeth, try not to be so hard on yourself.. lots could contribute to a small gain.. ttom, water retention, maybe even a different time of day that you weigh..i'm sure it will go down again..
Hello all -
Not much to say today. I'm a bit tired. I've been cleaning the house, and that's all that comes as any sort of exercise. I want to go to the gym but I want even more to take a nap.
158 still, and wanting to see a lower number.
leo~ ha ha.. sorry, sometimes I get a little carried away.. I think I am feeling about the same as you today.. a nap is starting to sound awful good! I have been a bit more lazy though.. my house is still quite a mess.. gotta find the energy to get my butt up off this chair and go clean it up!
I'll gladly trade you numbers on the scale! 165 this morning.. :P but, probably could be worse after my binge yesterday..
Zulu~ Thank you! I did start in the 180's and am down to 139... I've lost 43 pounds so far. Yeah, I guess I'm proud of myself... I've never been able to stick to any diets or anything in the past. This is a person that used to have the worst sweet tooth and used to buy a bag of peanut butter m&m's and eat almost the whole bag in one sitting! If I had any left I'd hide them in my underwear drawer so my husband wouldn't know what I was doing to myself, lol. He was appaled when I finally confessed to what I'd been doing. It's embarrassing to admit, but it's in the past and I haven't had any of those PB M&M's since x-mas time. *stands* My name is Karey and I'm PB M&M free since December 26th, 2007. :) Glad to hear you're scale is still going down and that you did count the chocs, awesome job! :D
Wendy~ So sorry to hear you hurt yourself too! Take it easy and rest awhile, don't push yourself too hard. Mmmm pizza sounds sooo good! Oh, and alcohol... haven't had much of that in long time (too many cals as you know). Yay, on getting the new shoes! I'd really like to get some new running shoes... I'm worried I'm going to hurt myself next. Did you like the shoes once you started running? What brand are they? Yep, I'm still doing the c25k... did week 3 for the first time last night and then again for the 2nd time this morning. It is pretty different... when I heard I had to run for the 3 minutes straight, I just about died, but I did well. Made it through both times and did extra fast paced walking after each session. My body is holding up pretty well (knock on wood), but my issue seems to be with having trouble breathing while I am running. I feel like I'm going to suffocate and can't get enough oxygen when running. Experience anything like this? I'm not looking forward to what week 4 has in store for us! I wish the guy was a little bit clearer, sometimes he can be hard to hear. Doesn't sound like you had too much damage for a binge day! I think drinking tons of water/tea really helps flush it out. I've had 3 liters of water and a liter and a half of tea so far and I'm in the bathroom all the time, lol! It's a pain, but I think it helps and makes me not feel too hungry. The brownies I made were Duncan Hines family style, but it can be any brand... just no fudge. Then you mix a 15oz can of black beans (rinsed) in after you've blended them with a cup of water & bake according to box.
Leo ~ Sorry in advance, my post is also very long! :D I'm with ya on the nap idea... it's so dreary and rainy here, makes me want to sleep. I really need to be cleaning the house before my hubby comes home - that way it'll look like I was productive today! *wink*
Well, off to clean the house now... and maybe a nap?
Well....did my 50 situps and 30 leg lifts front, side and inner thigh with 2 lb weights.... I joined the "lose 15-20lbs by Halloween" group. Hopefully I can get more motivated.
K9-Where in Fl are you??? We have good friends in Tampa
Momof2- I weighed myself in the afternoon after work with workout clothes on. I was bein schneeky.....so the conditions weren't perfect :( I have gained like 8 lbs since Jan!!!! Ackkkk!
I am tryin really hard now and tryin to log my food daily...Get back in the groove
ah well got some housework done anyway.. did the vacuuming, scrubbed up the kitchen and bathrooms and did some laundry..
k9, lol about your peanutbutter m&m's.. lord knows I've had more than my fair share of candies too.. The shoes seem pretty good.. I could feel a difference in the support right away, and I think I must have hurt myself either because I didnt stretch very much before going out, or I maybe was tensing without realizing it (because of my hip).. or maybe a combination of the two.. I got the shoes from runningwarehouse.com, and they are Asics Foundation 8.. I had googled "running shoes" and then explored a bunch of the results.. i have very wide, flat feet- and most of the sites say that people with flat feet are more likely to 'overpronate' and need a shoe with 'motion control' to correct it. I read over a bunch of the ratings on shoe sites and found that Asics foundation 8 was good shoe for this so I thought I'd try it.. I know exactly what you mean about the breathing.. I get that way too- I try really hard to focus on breathing in through my nose and blowing out through my mouth, and concentrate on the beat of the music... it seems to help a little, and I have noticed a difference in being able to breathe better as I have run more.. i think the lungs need to get stronger too.. Which podcast are you using? I saw 2 of them off of coolrunning.com, and i downloaded both-- one was 'robert ullrey' and the other was 'podrunner'... I have been using the podrunner one and havent even tried the other one yet.. The podrunner uses a tone to switch from walking to running and vice versa and the guy only talks at the beginning before the warm-up. So maybe try that? You dont have to worry about missing what he says then.
ladyelizabeth, great job on the exercise! I'm sure you'll stay motivated if you stick around on CC and keep logging your foods!
Ladyelizabeth~ I am in Deltona, FL... about halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach (central FL area). Great job on the exercise and sounds like it'll be a good motivator joining the Halloween group. :D
Wendy~ Glad to hear that your shoes are good... I also have flat and wide feet. They're also fairly large (10), so finding cute heels is always a problem. :) I think I may check out the website later and see how much the shoes are... thinking of possibly getting some. Glad I'm not alone on the breathing thing... hopefully it'll get better. I've been using the Robert Ullery podcasts. Maybe I'll have to give the other ones a try and see if I like them any better.
k9, the shoes I got were on quite a few different sites.. i did runningwarehouse.com because they were the cheapest i saw..$79.99 with free shipping and return shipping if they didnt work out. I think they were closer to $100. on Zappos. I usually wear about an 8.5.. but has to be wide width-- and heels- forget about it! I cant ever seem to squeeze my fat pancake feet into heels! I bought a pair for our cruise and could barely walk in them and hurt my feet so dang much I had to take them off under the table! lol.. and I really hate to admit this, but my hubby got into hockey this past winter, so he thought we could all get skates and go to the rinks together.. well, I went to the Hockey store with him to get fitted for some skates, and i needed to get a mens 6EE, or it may have even been EEE.. but they would have had to special order them and would have cost like $300 or better- so I didnt get skates! My hubby thought this was quite amusing and still likes to tease me about that now and then... but yeah, with the shoes, shop around a bit for the best deal.. or if you can, all the runners alway say go to a professional store to get a 'professional fitting'-- which is what i would have liked to have done-- but I have no idea where this type of store is or where to find it! We only have department stores and chain stores like 'famous footwear' and 'sportmart' and the like.
Somehow I am in the 170's again. I don't even want to know how this happened. I exercise, making sure to switch it up, I eat a decent amount of calories- I'm really, really hoping it's mostly muscle (band camp... surprisingly strenuous).
All I have to say to that is BAH.
Wendy~ Thanks for the shoe info! Wow, they are expensive! I've been looking online and I saw a lot of good reviews on the New Balance shoes... know anything about them at all? They're a little cheaper and come in wide width... most reviews say they're very comfortable and a good shoe for the price. Just don't want to spend too much $$$, especially if I decide I'm not a runner after all.
Sharky~ Hang in there... make sure you're drinking lots of water. It may just be water weight and be gone tomorrow, like mine was. Are you eating enough calories? Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll go away soon. :)
Hi everyone! Wow, that was ALOT of reading for today! Went to my dr appt and it went ok. I have to go back in 2 months now. She wants me to get another injection if this pain doesn't let up within the next week. I had a steroid injection before (well, twice before) and I end up in so much pain and in bed for 2 weeks just laying and wanting to die. So hopefully this flare up will subside soon.
k9 - glad the storm wasn't that bad for you. I was worried! I wear New Balance and get them at Finish Line. I don't know if you have that store there. But if not, I'm sure you can find them at any shoe store there. Told ya that weight would go away with some more water! lol :D
ladyelizabeth - joined the Halloween group too. Saw your post. It seems like a good group so far. It's pretty active.
wendy - hope your leg gets better soon! That has to hurt! I know what you mean about not wanting to take a break. I haven't walked since last Wednesday because of my leg and back. And I want out there so bad! :(
Will check in tomorrow! :D
k9, yes, the shoes are spendy, thats for sure..i had a hard time convincing myself I could spend that much on them, but I figured in the long run, it may be worth it--could very well prevent injuries and pain.. Even if you dont end up becoming a 'runner' , you would still have a good pair of shoes to wear for work, or working out, or running errands.. New Balance are good shoes too.. i have owned a couple of pairs in the past-- but ones I have just bought at local stores around here-- before I educated myself on shoes.. I had no idea what I really needed until I started reading around on the websites- so this new pair is the first i ever bought with 'motion control'- I dont think they even carry most of the shoes that I saw online at the stores around here.. I mean, they have all the brands like Nike, Reebok, Asics, New Balance, etc.. , but different models and styles than the ones I saw on the online stores- I've never seen anything about 'motion conrol' at any of the stores around here. I checked back at running warehouse and the New Balance 817 is a motion control shoe, and they want $75.95..I checked zappos and they got very good customer ratings, but zappos wants $104.. so yeah, you want to shop around.. Good luck and happy shopping :)
Ah Sharky, I understand your frustration.. I seem to be back on the way up too.. :( How is your sodium intake? that can cause water retention too.. Do they provide the meals at band camp? Maybe they arent feeding you well (nutrition quality) . . I know the schools around here could improve a lot in nutrition! When I look over the kids lunch menus, sometimes I just cringe..and that was before I joined CC and have become so scrutinous about food and nutrition! Like k9 said, drink lots and lots of water..that always helps!
