The No S Diet, anyone tried it?
You can find it here: www.nosdiet.com
Just wondering if anyone else has tried it, and if it's worked for them?
I've been on it for about a week now, and though I haven't weighed myself yet, I feel amazing. When calorie-counting I was always nibbling on things then saying "oh, it's not a lot, it's fine". But usually the "not a lot" either added up to too much or turned into an all-out binge. If you've been having trouble with that, it might help for you too. The No S site gives you all the information, free. (:
I've never heard of this diet, but I'm not sure I like the thing about no snacks. As far as I know, studies have shown that distributing your calories throughout the day helps keep your metabolism going throughout the day. One study I read last semester showed that distributing your energy intake throughout the day and keeping intakes below 300 calories at a time (think: cut your meal in half and eat one half now, and the other half later) helped decrease body fat percentage and increase lean body mass percentage in female athletes (mostly gymnasts and some runners). While the results haven't been investigated in regular folk like us, it's still an interesting concept that seems like it may have relevance and deserves some thought. :)
haha smartjock, me too...
@tastytreats: Well yes, I've heard that too, I (and a lot of other people apparently) really found this was getting in the way of stuff like eating out, working, life in general. And I'd end up eating more calories. I think the site addresses this. In the lab environment, sure, the snacks thing is more "fuel-efficient", but in the real world? Well, it's not for me, anyway.
And I didn't think about S meaning anything else. :D Oops.
Its good to limit your snackage and sweets but to completely take them out of the picture will destroy your will power to keep up with a healthy lifestyle. Ya need to give yourself a treat once in a while.
The best thing I found for me is to just calorie shift. Its ok to have a high calorie day, just have a low calorie day the next day (or the next day after that :P). Eat healthy all day, exercise and youll feel great no matter what!
holyfear, they don't take them out of the picture at all. They allow them on days that start with S, "sometimes", so in moderation. This is basically what I plan to do for the rest of my life - small sweets only allowed twice a week. I can't be counting calories forever, though I think counting is more effective in the loss phase.
In the maintenance phase I think No S is a great strategy. The whole point of No S is to build healthy habits that become unconcious, and that you follow forever.
it says on the webpage: "The calorie accounting diets are time consuming and joyless."
Pfft. I don't know about you guys, but I'm sure having fun getting the foods I eat analyzed every day. Maybe that's just because I like numbers. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Yeah, I suppose, but I'm not a numbers person and the thought of spending the rest of my life counting my food makes me want to...I dunno, go to the fridge out of spite. In the longterm, I'm more likely to stick to this. And all the skinny people I know (except my sister, damn her) stick to it without even thinking.
I've been on this for about a week now and am 1 lb lighter, though some (or all) of that might've just been some water. More importantly though, I haven't binged.
Out of curiosity, I added up what I ate over the week (calorie-counting is a hard habit to kick) and translated it into calories. It was actually about what was recommended for me to lose weight. It's just a lot easier this way, and I don't have to waste my time thinking about food anymore. KISS, ya know?
I once did a No Ch Diet - no chips, no cheese, no chocolate. That helped.
Thats cool than, when I read what it was about, it didnt seem all that clear to me lol. Well with what you said, it seems like the diet is kinda similar to a calorie shift which i deff. approve of haha. Good luck with it!
