Anybody out there in their 50s??
We seem to have a little harder time dropping our weight. Slower metabolism and less active I think. I'm looking for the 50s group to lose and share with. I KNOW you're out there!

Happy 2009! We can make this the best year yet!

OMG I'm the oldest living person on CC
I'm 52!

Hubby is calling me, he is doing some plumbing work and I am the go"fer".......I'll be back to post more later........
Oh thank God!!! I thought I was all alone. I still gotcha though. I'm 53. I started CC end of March at 196.4 . And fast as a turtle, I've made it to 182.2. I'm 5'7", medium build. My first goal is 160 by October 1st. CCs goal weight for me seemed pretty light, around 147.
I don't think I could maintain that. We'll see. I look forward to hearing more from you fancy55, and others hopefully.:-)
OK, I have 3 grown kids and 6 grandkids. I have been married 12 years to my second husband. Gained all this weight after he and I were married. He kids me that I have too much of the good life and he is probably right. I grew up on a fram where "home cookin" was fried, battered and or buttered with real butter...oh and let's not forget the cream....real cream straight from the cow. Cooking healthy for me has been a challenge.....while hubby is perfectly happy with a salad and chicken breast for supper I still have that feeling I am depriving him if he doesn't get mashed potatoes, gravy, fried chicken and buttered corn for example. Old habits are hard to break.

My health problems consist of arthritus in knees and shoulders and fibromylgia. Both are improving with heach pound I shed. I started out at 230 and am down to 209.4 (or.6 - not sure without looking what my Thursday weigh in was) I am doing Weight Watchers but like this site much better than theirs! But the weekly meetings keep me accountable. It is funny how proud you are of a five pound star! lol!

Well it is off to bed for tonight....visiting a friend who is in a nursing homr in the morning. Haven't seen her in a while...think good thought for the both of us!
Hi fancy enjoyed reading your post. I'm married 22 years to a great guy who has too much of a heart to ever tell me I look like a pig and need to drop some weight. He probably knows I'd kill him in his sleep. We have a 20 year old daughter (drama queen) and a 16 year old son (evil knevil) at home. And I wonder why I eat?....I'm 1/2 italian, brought up in a home of parents that having lived through the depression, made us kids always "CLEAN YOUR PLATE". So i've battled the bulge all of my life. I also did Weight Watchers for awhile. Even worked for them briefly. I applaud the ethics of WW. Just really hated that I had to pay to lose weight. SHamefull to me I guess. I do know FOR ME " diets "don't work! I have to adapt a healthy life style period, end of story for me. Exercise is crucial at my age. My knees are awfull. Stairs are very hard for me. I pretty much blew my knees out doing step arobics years ago. (one of my obsessive kicks). And carrying this extra weight only makes it worse. Because of bad knees, I lift with my back. Over time I've damaged that also. Chiropractor once a month. I'm down 15 pounds so far. It does make a difference. I need a partner. How about it??
Well I will join you (I JUST make it)
fifty at the beginning of May
I have been married to my dear husband for 27 years (just had our anniversay)
I have a grown son who has left home - a grown daughter who went to university then moved back home to do more studies and is in her first job - oh and SJ the friend/lodger who moved in with us when he was homeless and is now back for the third time (so rather like an extra son really)- I also have three rescue dogs that are very precious to us :)
I lost five stone (70lb) two years ago - then about 6 months later gave up smoking and put some weight back on - this is proving really hard to shift and I have had a medication change to hopefully help
since loosing the weight giving up smoking and drinking and taking up exercise my blood pressure went up and I now need medication -

Hello everyone, so very glad I'm not the only one over 20something. I really believe that as we girlies get older, it takes alot more dedication and patience to shed those extra pounds. The ones that seem to come out of nowhere. So glad to have some company. I've been working on my new lifestyle since end of March. It is getting easier. I'm not starving. And after shedding 15 pounds, I'm feeling better in many ways. I have about 25 ponds to go. Then I'll have to take a closer look at some fine tuning. I have learned a little about STONES since coming to CC. I thought ya'll were talking about kidney stones! HAHA
Hi everyone...there is a "senior" thread in the Games forum for those of us over 50...

55 here, 56 in a few months...wgt los is slow but do-able!  Down to 149.5 from 177.5 since 1/2/07...

welcome newbies!
I can join this club too, I turned 50 last December.  I really like this site and like an earlier poster said I been to WW and just hate the idea of people making money from other people's problems.  WW does not work, you work WW or any program.  I think I have finally made that connection that calories in less calories burned = weight gain or loss.  I had been fooling myself and saying after one more DQ sundae or I'll start on Monday or tomorrow or in the morning... you all know what I mean.  And then the time has blown by.. I have gained and lost the same 5lbs so many times in the last 3 years.  The good news is that I did not just gain.  But I think of how fast time has really flown by, so I tell myself it I get in another good day all of a sudden it will be the next week.  I also know that whatever is stressing me that I want to eat or procastinate (I'ld rather eat than clean)...the stressful thing will still be there but now I am fat too.  Okay I babbled long enough.  Glad to see other are in the same boat I am in..

Mother of 3
16 boy - just has his driver's licence
13 girl - pre puberty (not a full drama queen but trying)
10 boy - my athlete on a traveling soccer team
But I can't complain it is all so good, just soo busy..
I also work and have a dog--my best buddy, and a husband.. he loves me but is so clueless.

Hi jem599 and susanbeth, Glad you could stop by. Thanks for the info on the thread on games. I'll try to check it out. I really love this site. I find it totally addicting. Maybe it can replace chocolate (yeah right).
I weigh daily in the morning and post my Friday weigh-in. I tried just weekly weigh-ins, but that does'nt work for me. I'd rather know a trend than find out I lost nothing after waiting the week. Too depressing. Jem, I'd love to think I could some day wear a bikini again. You look fabulous. Susanbeth, can you believe we get all this support and info on this site for  FREE? It's too good to be true. And best of all it's working! :-)

Hi, I'm in this group 55.  Started CC in February start weight 207 current weight 181 and am also 5'7".  divorced and one son 22.
I've found the right group to get motivated! Yeah! I'm 54 and officially OBESE, I managed to get up to 229 at 5'7" and still have a figure though just BIG all over. I read the posts for the 5'7" gals all of whom want to get down to under 135 which is where I wanted to be when I was in my 20's and actually was but always thhought I was FAT because I wasn't 125! I will work toward an interim goal of 200, then 170 and then 143-150 which is a decent goal range. I think it is realistic to think I can get 30 lbs off by the end of September. I am starting today.

Any advice for the first week?
Hi and welcome mcoren, I just had to keep busy and try to drink lots of h2o, to feel full. I was so excited to get started that I really didn't starve. I did miss salty and sweet foods, and had to find healthy subs. You can do this. You'll see! We're here for ya!

I am so not motivated.  I started good last week and bombed this weekend.  I got on scale and lost nada.  I did try to journal everything I ate, even if over my calorie count for the day.  Well, today is Monday, will try again.
Nice to see so many 50's and over.

I was a bit bad over the weekend but am back on track today. Will see if my "badness" shows Thursday when I weigh in at Weight Watchers.

From reading posts it appears Weight Watchers doesn?t have the best reputation here. I certainly don?t want to get into a discussion of who is right and wrong?.what works for me may not work for others and vice versa. One reason I think it does work for me is the weekly fee?..if I am paying I WILL lose weight. And through them and this wonderful site and I am learning to put into practice life changes that I never thought possible.
Hi everyone.  Well, I hit 50 a few weeks ago and boy am I struggling with losing my weight! I can't believe how I've let myself go over the years (especially after quitting smoking 3 years ago!) and I am truly paying for it. It seems almost impossible to lose even a pound and I'm really struggling with counting calories. I, like many of you, have been overweight most of my life and done all the diets.  And I still struggle. But now that I'm older and much wiser I realize just how important it is to take care of myself. I lost my father a few months ago and my mother is elderly. I see what their health has done to them and I feel what the weight does to me so I realize it's now or never to get the weight off, get healthy and feel good again.   I joined TOPS a few months ago and it seems to be helping. It's holding me much more accountable and it seems this is one of the things I need. So I've decided even if I only lose a pound a week, or even 1/2 pound, it's a loss and I'm good with it.  I've read alot of good info on this site, read alot of great posts and am looking forward to getting to know everyone and continuing to learn how to get, and stay, healthy.
I loved weight watchers when I did it. It works. Not only had I put out the money, but there was very friendly competition. Our group was very well bonded along the way. My mother is 84 and only recently stopped going to weekly weigh-ins. She now struggles with keeping weight on. I just stopped going to meetings and like always the weight crept back on. I realize now at 53 there's no going back to bad habits...it's just to easy. I'm grateful for this site. It's fantastic. My friend (also in her 50s) is now doing nutrisystem. Very expensive! She is dropping all kinds of weight. Quickly! She says she's starving. But what happens when you haave to feed yourself. They really haven't taught you anything. They've just supplied the food. Also losing quickly is not the best way. YAk YAk YAk sorry
I did Nutrisystem and it worked fine for a while. I never got hungry but boy did I get bored with it! And yes, it's pretty expensive. If it hadn't been for the boring meals, I probably would have been successful with it.
51, and working to get me and my husband fit, not easy, hubby is 58.
