Anybody out there in their 50s??
We seem to have a little harder time dropping our weight. Slower metabolism and less active I think. I'm looking for the 50s group to lose and share with. I KNOW you're out there!

Happy 2009! We can make this the best year yet!

Good Morning one and all.

I just ate my muffin and am working on my first 20 oz of water. I fill one ¾ full and one ½ full the night before and freeze them. Icy cold water is much easier to get down than Luke warm water. I freeze water in 2 liter pop containers for my truck driver hubby. He drinks all of it plus a 20 oz bottle of water and I believe it is a 28 oz bottle of iced tea.

Today is WW weigh in. I WILL hit my 10% today I am sure (unless I retain lots of water between now and then! Lol!). I was 3 pounds below the 10% mark this morning dressed! Of course I have had breakfast and water since then.

I am proudly wearing my Mother?s Ring again today. Another Bravo moment happened last night when I realized my ?tummy? was not rubbing the steering wheel of my truck anymore. In fact I was able to lower the wheel to a much more comfortable position and I still had plenty of room! (I am short so I have to have the seat pulled forward almost as far as I can get it?.not good when you have a big belly!

Thanks for the tip about the ice-cream! I may even be able to find my favorite (chocolate peanut butter) in a lite or low cal! I?ll have to start searching.
Yea fancy!!! You go girl! You sound like you could conquer the world. Good job! I've got my pom poms out for ya! I weigh tomorrow. I'm prayin it's a loss.********
Thanks!

I hit the 10% and 25pounds off today. They asked me if I wanted both rewards at the same meeting. Their thinking in this is that if you get the 25 pounds and the 10% at the same time other people at the meeting can figure out what you weigh.....HECK yes I wanted them both. I wouldn't be in a weight loss group if I didn;t have weight to lose and 25 (plus) pounds is an accoumplishment! (I would put a smile in now if I knew how to doit on this site! lol!)

I called my boss who is off for 3 days on a mini vacation (she, her daughter, another co worker and I joined WW at the same time.) The one co worker quit after the first week and has never gone back. My boss is NOT DEDICATAED AT ALL, but her daughter is doing pretty good.  Anyway after my meeting I called my boss and when she answered I just said 25.2.....she has decided that when she gets back on Monday she is going to give me a run for my money!  It will kill me to go to a meeting and have gained weight....I know that it will probably happen at some point but paying that $40.00 each month keeps me honest. If I am going to pay I am going to dedicate myself to the plan. Then I know if I have gained it won't be because I ate too much or the wrong things....it will be because my body had hit a level and I will need to mix things up a bit to continue on the weight loss track.
Forgot to say I am thinking about you munsey and wish you luck tomorrow!
Thanks fancy and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
You are doing such an awesome job, fancy. I feel motivated just reading about your success. 25 lbs represents a lot of hard work and you should feel very proud of yourself! I'm glad you have a supportive WW group as well - and a little healthy weight loss competition with your boss will be good for both of you. Keep up the good work! Munsey, hope you get a good scale reading tomorrow. I'm betting you will.
181.2 down 1 pound. Sooooo slow, but better than a gain right? Total of 15.2 lost.!!!
Hi, I have been dieting all my life like must of you. My highest weigh 220 and now I'm down to 174. It's been a year since I really committed myself to work out and eat the right food. The problem is I have been the same weight for at least 6 months. I need to lose 20 more pounds. Help This is my first post.
Great job both Munsey and JCR.  15.2 and 25.  I am at 7 since April.  Very slow but all in the right direction.  The prior 3 years ai gained and lost the same 5 lbs and kept saving if I only lost and not the gained part, I would be so much better off, but that was then.  I really like the support at CC, and the logs, journal and other tools.  WW does not work and CC does not work, you need to work the programs.  So great job to you both.  I also am motivated by a co-worker who just seemed to melt.  I don' think she had any surgery, but you never know.  It just all seems to make more sense, like a big "TA DA" moment or more like a "DA" moment.  Calories in less Calories used is weight gain or loss...Is this like wax on wax off.. oh well.  I guess I need to work today..

Here is my daily routine for food

Dannon Coffee yogurt for breakfast...I am really addicted to this

coffee with skim, piece of fruit in the morning

Lunch- salad with grilled chicken or turkey sandwich break off pieces of the bread or bun so I don't eat all the carbs

mid afternoon- Kashi bar (140 Cal/4g of fiber)

Dinner chicken or fish (salmon or sea bass) salod, oven roasted potatoe, salad, vege like broccoli or brussel sprouts.

I try to be done after dinner, I was never a night snacker.  My worst time is from 3:30-5:30, so lately I have my dinner salad after work.  I do best M-F, the weekend schedule throws me off, but I am working on this.  Now I even when I do eat extra, I am trying for good choices.  I work in a downtown, where eveywhere you turn is a food place, coffee, cookie, popcorn, pizza, chineese, but there are some healthy choices with fresh fruit.  I just try not to spend much money, so that keeps the eating down.

I am working on drinking more water.  I think water is the key to wash the fat out of your system.  I also will drink tea to fill me up if needed, so many flavors of tea.

Okay this is long enough..
Congratulations all you Losers out there! LOL!

Susan, I have a question? I am interested in your statement that WW & CC does not work? I am thinking that you mean they do not work if YOU don?t work at it. Which I totally agree. If you are not dedicated to a life style change no program is going to work. But I certainly think WW & CC are excellent tools in the journey. WW keeps me honest?..and CC provides tons of support. Please don?t think I am picking on your?heaven forbid that is not my intent. I just would not want a Newbie to interrupt that the wrong way??(PS can you tell I am a moderator on another site? LOL!)

Good Luck to all of us!
You are correct, you need to work the program.  It is not simply signing into the site or going to the ww meetings and paying the dues.  You work the programs.  And if you are honest with yourself about how much you are really eating and moving they are great tools, but it is all up to you.  Attitude, committment, honesty especially with yourself.  How many times have we hear people say this diet or that program do not work?  The programs only work if you really follow them so altimately it is up to you.
Susan, you are so right on! I wish everyone would read this and realize that weight loss is a committment....life long.....and that no program, or "diet" (I hate that word) is going to lose the weight for them!

Hi, I've been on CC one week today and started at 230 and am down to 228.5. Woohoo! I am 51 and I swear when I hit 50 everything hit the fan. I have never been tiny but I had never been out of shape then I got plantar fasciitis in my foot that kept me from walking for over a year. For Christmas I got an elliptical that I was going great guns on - an hour a day. Then I got tendonitis in my elbow and both ankles on top of bashing my ankle (twice) and chipping the bone!!!
So, I'm back to walking my dog 2.5 miles usually at least 4 times a week.

I've been married 25 years this July. I have a 23 year old daughter-college grad, a 20 year old daughter currently in college and a 17 year old son and I'm a baseball/soccer mom.

I stumbled onto this group today and love the understanding everyone has for being menopausal and trying to lose weight. My big deal is to stay healthy and get some of my muscle tone back. The good news is that it is summer and water aerobics beckons.

After years of eating along with years of dieting, I too have come to the realization that it is a commitment to lifestyle and the easiest most realistic way to weight loss is calories in - calories burned = weight gain or loss
Welcome bub55! This is a great group and a great site!
Hey! more old farts like me! NOT....we're all young still, right? I'm 58 and fluffy...way too fluffy...257.6 this morning....down from 308.8 in august of '06 when i was diagnosed with diabetes. Sorry for the lonnnnng sentence.

I read the first few posts on this group, and had to laugh. I grew upo on a farm, and yup, we really ate hearty!!! It really is hard to learn to eat differently when you grow up with gravy, cream, butter, homemade pies, cakes, oh good grief! My mother was an excellent cook, used to cooking for an "army" of people....and she was a depression person who made us clkean up our plates. and fat was good for you...if i cut the fat off my steak, i got in real trouble! fried eggs were fried in the grease from the panfull of bacon cooked just prior, so they were yummy and brown with the bacon grease. I was ok as long as we lived on the farm, lots and lots of exercise. but when we moved to the city and she kept cooking the same, oh deariness! i was chubby at twelve, obese at 21!

i yo-yo dieted for years, and ended up just plain huge. being diagnosed diabetic and sent to a nutritionist is the best thing that ever happened to my bod!

It really is harder to lose at this age...and i am pushing 60 real soon now, so i don't expect i have much time to get this off! My biggest fear has always been being a huge fat old woman. It has become a real big motivation to keep eating healthy!

Sure am glad to find you ladies! I need all the encouragement i can get! And i enjoy giving it to others, too.
I'm on my way out the door and can't take the time for a long post but this was the first time today I had to check this thread and I wanted to respond. Congratulations, munsey, on your lb. loss. i'm thrilled to see that much these days. It seems like my scale has been stuck forever. Really glad to see our new members - welcome emillilly, bub55, and caroljoy. So glad you found this site. I need all the encouragement I can get today - yesterday and so far today I have been so far off program that I can't stand myself. So starting right this minute, I'm going to forgive myself for the past couple days and try again. This is really the first serious relapse I've had since starting CC and it scares me. I so badly don't want to undo all the good work of the last three months. I guess maybe I'm just discouraged that the weight is coming off so slowly now. I've only lost 2 lbs. in the past month even though I've been really working the program.(Hope I didn't gain those 2 lbs. back in the last couple days!) Wish me luck. Time to get focused again!
Good luck jcr.....you can do it! We all fall off the wagon sometimes!
Hi everyone!! This is the "old fart" that started this thread, and I am really lovin everybody's possitive input. I wake up knowing you are all there, and I am not alone on this journey. I love this site!!! I can't believe I can get all of this for FREE. We all have days, even weeks that we're less loyal to the program (fancy, I hate the word diet too, they just DON"T work). But we are learning together how to get back on track and like jcr said, "forgive ourselves" for being human. It IS a slow process, and that IS discouraging at times, but I will NOT give up! Thank you all for being there :-) Carole

Hi I just joined today and I'm glad to find a 50+ group. I joint WW 6 weeks ago and have only losted 1+ lb. It's hard counting points and calories. Well I'll be checking in for the motivation. I too have a great somebody who is just too kind to me. I'm just trying to stay consistent with tracking points/calories. j.
Hi jmaloa, Welcome to the friskyist 50s on the block. It does take our old(er) bodies more time to adjust to any changes we throw at them, but together there's not much we can't do. Patience is not my strong suit to say the least. But some things are worth it. Especially when it's the rest of my life. Good luck and God bless.
