The "in our 50s group" ****GROUP OPEN****
Anybody out there in their 50s??
We seem to have a little harder time dropping our weight. Slower metabolism and less active I think. I'm looking for the 50s group to lose and share with. I KNOW you're out there!
Happy 2009! We can make this the best year yet!
Hey, All - Nice to see this thread operational again. I'm looking forward to a good year. Some changes need to happen, that's for sure, but I'm starting to feel the motivation again. And I agree with Dee, it's time to slow down, take a deep breath, and think about what's important. Health is priceless, and we are all capable of doing a lot to make it better. Anyone want to join me on this journey - again?
Anyone new happen to check out this thread? Please feel very welcome to join us!
Sorry for the double post. My computer is SLOW! I didn't think it had posted the first time. ):
Count me in! Hi jcr! Well, i have been on a rather logn and rocky journey in 2008, but i am on track again. Our youngest son, my belove Daniel, my buddy, moved out in July, leaving the nest empty after 38 years of a full nest! Not willing to face the empty bedroom, we moved 4.5 hours east to our 21 year old newlywed son's home, where we lived for 5 months while looking for an apartment of our own. We moved in to a 55+ apartment this month, and love it. BUT...while living with "the kids"...i gained a ton of weight! I hit 300 again a few days ago! It was just the shock i needed to get back on track. I had regained 58 of the 66 lbs lost!!!! Sooooo....2009 is the year i will steadily work on eating correctly and getting proper exercise, drinking my gallon of water a day, and weighing in just once a week. HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Wow Caroljoy! Great to see you around here again. This is going to be like a reunion I think. I would like to try the empty nester thing. Our kids have given us so much heartache in the past year (our son mostly), that the empty nest thing sounds restful. Any way I have put on 15 big ones. In the same size but barely. And thanks to the gym for that. I did miss a total of almost two weeks lately, due to illness and holiday commitments. BUT NO MORE!! Tomorrow starts my re-commitment to the gym. Only death will keep me from going. That's number #1. Then number #2....getting the bad food out of the house. Number #3....Weaning myself off of the sugar. I've warned everyone around me....it won't be pretty. And even if I cry....don't give me chocolate! #4...Adding the water. I've been living on coffee. And finally...number #5...the really big one...LOGGING MY FOOD!!! That combination helped me to be successful before. I feel like such a slug. I know when I get all this sugar out of my system I will feel SO much better. I'm looking forward to putting this all into action. I think by mid-January I should be on my way. Keeping my fingers crossed, anyway. I can make it happen.
<waving> Hiiiiiiii ladies! Happy New Year! I hope everyone is doing well! Haha..I see we are all finding our way back..how fun is that! I love the holidays but after things settle down there definetely is some relief when things get normal again! I still have this week off work.. yayyy to that!
What's changed for me: I've eliminated about 75% of the meat out of my diet which is the good news. The bad news is that sugar found it's way back into my world. I'm trying again to reduce it down dramatically and up that exercise!
Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Down to 297 today. Off to a good start. My resolutions:
Gradually improve my eating habits and exercis so my body doesn't think it is starving suddenly.
Like me again. It's been a while.
Hi Caroljoy! That's so great you like yourself again..it's terrible to be down on ourselves! I wish you success, you did it before you can do it again! I like your gradual approach better than jumping in too harshly and starving your body! For me, it's got to be upping exercise more so than changing diet except for cutting portions a small amount. I've crashed my metabolism one too many times in my life to risk doing it again.. "slow and steady wins the race!"
Happy New Year's, Gang,
Just popping in to say hi. Won't be on a regular schedule/program until Monday. Am enjoying the last few days of having my family home.
One of my goals this year is to try some new recipes. I'm soooo tired of the same-old, same-old. I always love the first of the year - new start, fresh page on the calendar, renewed enthusiasm. My byword for this year is "consistency" - kinda like what Serenity mentioned - slow but STEADY!
Caroljoy, you know the old saying "if you don't take care of yourself, you can't take care of anyone else." And it's true. Don't be down on yourself! Forget the mistakes of last year, just do the best you can with each day that's given you this year. (((((( hugs )))))))
First weekend of the New Year! Since life has been extra-busy since before Thaniksgiving (all fun stuff, but still...) I'm ready to get back on a more usual schedule. I guess good eating habits should head the list, huh?...
Lots of housework to do today - that should keep me out of trouble. (: Guess I'd better get off the computer and start in on it.
Hi everyone...thanks for the encouragement! I REALLY needed it! The New Years goodies are almost gone now, so today should be MUCH easier to eat healthy. Got my bananas, my oatmeal, and my slimfast now, so i'm off to a healthier start. Just another month of cold weather here, then i'll be able to get out of the house and walk. I know that will help a lot. And i'm looking forward to making my low sodium/lowfat homemade chilis and soups again. I guess i'm getting the taste for healthy food again...YAY!!!
So glad to see all my old gal pals back for the journey again. I won't get restarted until January 13th. Got some things to get done first. We'll be going to the beach for that weekend and come home on the 12th. I've gotten just about all of the sweets out of the house, and I've laid in the good stuff. Can't wait to get started back. Haven't been to the gym yet this year. Had to work new year's day. Then I got sick again. Took the bike out for a spin yesterday evening after spending time with my mom. 37 degrees is a little too cold even with the leathers, but it felt good to get out. But I got to tell you...I could barely get my leg over the motorcycle. Damn leather pants are really tight. Not good! This cough is wearing me out. Sound like I belong in a tuberculosis ward. Planning on going to work tommorow then to the gym. We'll see. Got almost 20 pounds to RE-LOSE. Been a very BAD girl.
It is so great to see women over 50 groups here, sometimes I think I am the oldest person on earth, I work around so many young folks. It is all good though I am also more experienced so it balances out. This is the first time I have used the internet for support inmy weight loss. I have done the WW thing and it works really well but at this time in my life I really need to be saving all the money I can.
I think that I have gained and lost the same 40 lbs @ 6 times, and here I go again, this time I hope it sticks. I was unemployeed for over a year and stayed home cooking baking and not going to the gym. So of course that same 40 lbs came back to find me!! I am now employeed again at a great place that is actually making a profit right now, I got really lucky!!
Any way I look forward to learning from all of you.
Welcome, starhr!
I have the same story you have - YoYo Diet Queen here! I did well here on CC last year but then had surgery last spring and never really got back on the wagon again. I'm looking forward to losing again, though, and the support here is great. And it's FREE!
Glad you are joining our group!

Hi Everybody! A belated Happy New Year to you!
I have been reading your thread and having a great laugh, particularly on the link to the baby boomers animation! I would like to join you.
I have gained and lost the same amount of weight over and over too! Still can't figure out why I do it to myself. Anyway January is always a new start for me and so I feel good again and that I can shift some weight before spring and a trip to San Francisco in April. I have never been there and am looking forward to it so much!
Have a good week everyone!
So grest to see some new gals around here. Not that I was tired of the others. We share the same sad story of regaining. I'm as bad as Oprah. I'm a comfort eater to be sure. But here we go again. So welcome girls. It promises to be an interesting ride. This is a great site to get healthy with.
hey. welcome ladies! please do join us, we need all the help we can get, LOL!
oh, muns, if you're the queen, i'm the queen mum, LOL! I lost 66 and then put all but 8.8 back on! but i'm doin great today, and at long last, i might add! i lost 3 lbs since i hit 300 again, and am sincerely hoping there will be a bit more down on Friday.
by-the-way...i resurrected the Friday Weigh In thread if anyone wants...or dares...to join me there...mwahahahahaha!!!!
maybe i need to go back and find our fight song again? *snicker*
Welcome to you, too, "let's..." (:
Glad you found us. I'm so tired of yo-yoing that I can taste it! Anyone watch Oprah yesterday? I don't know if she made me feel better or worse. At least she's optimistic and is planning to lose it again. And so am I!
There's really no other choice since I refuse to keep going the direction I'm currently heading...
Haha..I read your post too fast Muns and I thought it said you were tired of the oldies here! :)
Welcome Star and and "Lets"... yeppers...we all have the same story pretty much but we just keep on trying! No matter what if we are eating healthier I believe it's helping us even when the weight is not coming off. I make good choices just consume too much of the good things!
"tired of the oldies" Crap I AM the OLDIE. Silly wabbit! I turned 55 yesterday! Feel like a slug. Been eating chocolate like Hersheys announced bankruptcy. But now that I've comforted myself into tight pants AGAIN, I'm ready for the big melt-down. Me that is. My start date is January 13th. We are getting away for the weekend. Come home on Monday. Then the party is officially over. Can't wait to get started. Happy to hear about the Friday weigh-in thread. I'll be hitting it for sure. Have a good weekend ya'll. OLDIE OUT!
Well shoot, sorry we missed your birthday Muns! Hope you had a great day! Lol, you are still funny as ever I see! :) Hey, at least you are catching yourself before you fall too far out of reach and end up in another pants size so that's a good thing! We'll all do it again, we can do it!
