Are you in your 30's and realized that your metabolism as shut down?
I am 31 and I have realized that i can no longer eat "Little Debbies and drink regular soda. I will turn 32 in August and I refuse to continue to get bigger. Is there anyone out there that fit this profile- Female, early 30's, and overweight
Yep! I hear ya. Female, 32, 62 lbs to lose. Le sigh.
I will be 32 in September. Although I am now in a healthy weight range (I've dropped from 165 lbs to 130 lbs) and wearing a size 4 (the smallest I've ever been in my adult life), I find that it IS much harder to keep up the exercise and healthy eating habits now that I'm getting older. Seems like the fat is even more stubborn these days - some pudgy areas like tummy, back and upper arms just refuse to budge! Keepin at it though - I feel fitter than I've ever been!
YES YES YES! I cannot believe how much easier it is to gain wt and harder it is to lose wt now that i'm 31! i have 2 small children, stay at home mom, exercise at least 5 days/week and CONSTANTLY have to be aware of what i'm eating. i will gain 2 lbs overnight it seems! work my butt off with no results, plus i have a smaller upper body and large lower (pear) so it's even harder cuz I think it's a hormonal issue.
Oh me too....ugh. I will be 31 in July. Also 2 small kids and stay at home mom. I still have like 30lbs to go, and its hard. But with me eating better it makes my children eat better cause the junk is out of the house.
Man I started noticing that at around 27 or so maybe earlier. I'll be 33 in September. Yay for the Libras!! It's crazy, especially when you have BF who has 2 kids and they eat pizza all the freakin time and bake cookies and eat a Burger King and Popeye's. Now I'm pregnant and that won't help things because I'm sure to be craving stuff soon. I work out too frequently and I have to be constantly aware of what I'm eating. I do eat what I want on weekends but I don't go crazy and I try to remember if I've eaten bad for the past few days so I can make it up on the upcoming ones.
Just to point out, that us men early 30 hit this same wall.
Hit sometime around 26 or 27.
It is time to start a 30 something motivation group!!! I have to say....I have finally joined a gym and it is amazing now that you can turn on your ipod, and sweat and walk and enjoy a quick 45 minute brisk walk!!! I don't know about you guys.....but there is something about listening to 80's and 90's music while working out from Prince, Madonna, ( the old) Micheal Jackson and many others....has really helped me with staying on my quick pace! You all have to try it...and let me know. Especially listen to Micheal Jackson- the Wall album- PYT, Wanna be starting something.....man....you will be "groovin..and walking at the same time![]()
Anyhow, I'm still going to give this weight loss and exercise thing my best shot, so I definitely think a 30-something motivation group would be fantastic! Count me in, OK? :)
Yes! I'm 32 and I know metabolism has all but stopped in the last 2 years. A lot of this has to do with the weight I gained but also my body is just changing.
I am very interested in am 30 something motivation group! I am a mother of 1 and work full time, I find myself eating on the run and skipping the daily workouts in hope of an hour of relaxation. I have to be honest I never felt so bad about myself. I am 174lbs, 5'7". I can't keep up anymore on family hikes and bike rides so I'm beginning to refuse to go, the more I gain the more I seem to eat. I feel a little out of control.
I have gym membership I just began to use again and I have started yoga on a regular basis now I just need to get my diet under control.
Any support, motivation, and ideas are welcome.
"Same song, different verse, a little bit better and a whole lot worse"
Reading this thread reminded me of that camp song I used to sing as a kid!
I'm 32, 5'6" SAHM of 3. Last spring I noticed that although I was eating the same way I always had- junk- it was starting to show up on the scales, which had never happened before. I kind of stayed in a denial state all fall (hubby and I went on vacation 3 times which = lots of eating out. One time we went to Uno's and got a 12" Chicago deep dish for each of us! What on earth was I thinking?)
My weight was always 115 with no thought put into it, it just stayed there despite the fact I never exercised or ate right. When it got to 126, I knew I had to put the breaks on. I was tired of trying to squeeze my chunkier butt into my too tight jeans.
Since joining CC, I have lost 6 pds! I can wear my clothes again with confidence and am only 5 pounds away from my goal!

This is just soooooooooo true to me right now as well.......This time is very different from any other time before that I tried to lose weight. I am 33 now and my metabolism just seemed to shut down within the last year or so. It seems like before I could eat just about anything and I would be fine, but not now. I have to watch everything. Even sodium. I never had to watch sodium before!!! I gained about 30 pounds in a very short time....and I did not think that was possible. I now know the truth!!

Definately! I'm 35 and have been fighting with my spare tire for over 5yrs now. It's so frustrating.
I feel the same way. Going to be 32 but last uyear I noticed if I look at bread I gain..LOL Seriously I feel that I gain weight faster now and its much much harder to lose.
I finally got out of my "I don't have time to exercise" rut a couple of years ago at 35, and while it started very slow, as I lost more weight, my metabolism actually started to increase. Now, about 45 pounds lighter, I think my metabolism is higher than it's been in years. My increase in strength training have has really kicked it up recently.
Don't give up, and don't be afraid to try new and different exercises.
A comment on joint pain: My knees used to ache after exercising every time too. And my back. And my hips. Even after I had lost 20 pounds, I was thinking "What the heck? This is supposed to help my body!" Not too long after I started focusing on strength development is when that started to get better. The more muscular support your joints have, the healthier they'll be, or so I've read (it worked out for me at any rate). My posture is certainly better.
I'm 31, but my metabolism tanked back at 22. If you like food, you've gotta do a lot of exercise, that's all I can say.
let's be honest, here. i noticed a distinct slow-down in my metabolism when i was about 28. coincidentally (not), i was a whole lot less active than i'd been before that. for example, when i was younger, a day of skiing meant 9am to 4pm with a half-hour break for lunch; by 28, it meant landing in the parking lot at noon, skiing for two hours, stopping for a break (and a pint), then skiing for another hour, then hitting the bar.
miraculously (not), when i got more active, my metabolism returned to pre-30s performance. i'm 40 now, i've dropped from almost 170 to 140, and i can eat almost whatever i want.
Wait until the 40's. It is even worse. I used to beat myself up in my 30's for thinking that I was overweight. I wish I had not wasted those years away feeling like I was overweight when in fact, I was a healthy weight. Now 20 lbs. more in more 40's I am even more unhappy.

Thanks for giving me hope. I am 33 and ready to get moving again. As the song goes-- I am way too young to feel this damn old.
I recently took a flexibility test and it was scary seeing the amount lost. The process is so gradual you don't even realize what is happening until it is too late.
