140s want to be 130s discussion/support group *ALWAYS OPEN*
taking a page from restless_girl's book, because i don't understand why groups have to be exclusive.
me, i've been kicking around in the 140s (both extremes and everywhere in between) for over a year now, and trying to get down to 135. at my highest i was 167-ish; that was long ago. but it seems that every time i knock at the door of 139, i get complacent and backslide (beer & chicken wings anyone?).
weigh-in if you want, or just commisserate and support. i'll pop in periodically ;)
krrpt ~ So far I only do serious lifting (as in heavier weights, different ways of lifting, etc) with trainer boy twice a week. On off days I will do maintenence lifting with 12 pounders doing various arm exercises and then legs on the machines. I just told my trainer yesterday my goal of having my arms more toned so it sounds like he is really going to switch up the workouts and do more heavy-lifting rather than maintenence lifting now and might switch it to 3x a week too. But it doesn't sound like The Hill is going away either, sigh. I only sprinted up it 5 times yesterday, probably because we got started late and he added in those extra squats, push ups, etc. Usually I'll do 8 sprints all the way up the hill and then 8 mid-way. It doesn't sound bad as I type it but it's such a killer. No matter how many times I do it, my butt always is sore the next day. If you try it, bring a stopwatch or it gets way too easy to slack off and run slower each time. Good luck!
I think I am going to be a slacker today and not work out. It's absolutely gorgeous out and I should go for a run but...I don't wanna, LOL. I have to leave for work in a few hours and I'll be gone all evening but I figure I'm going to be with trainer boy tomorrow so it's ok. I'll done some serious workouts this weekend.
karen- weightlifting is so addicting :) I don't have a gym membership though so I can only go as far as my dumbells allow... I still manage to do a lot, but not as much as I could do at a gym.. ah well! I really want to try that hill madness... but it's going to be snowing here soon.. like tomorrow :( so it's not looking good for that...
I increased my leg stuff to 30-40lb dumbells last night.. my body isn't sore though :( do you guys think it's because I'm not doing enough?? do I need to increase MORE?? ugh.. I lift to the point of exhaustion so not sure what is going on.. ah well...
my weight is up today.. Only to 136.8.. nothing crazy.. I think it's b/c of 3 things... 1. too much candy this week 2. no cardio since last friday 3. I had grilled cheese and tomato soup last night.. sodium-packed..
but today I'll be eating really well and should have a great weigh-in tomorrow!
Uuugghhh I weighed myself at the gym today...145! I gotta really buckle down now and fix this. Anyone here know anything about losing weight while building muscle? I thought I read over in the fitness forum that you can't do both at once but that's what I'd like to do. Hopefully I can find a happy medium between the two.
Had trainer boy today at the gym again. Did tricep dips - I can do those finally! - but still no go on the pull ups. I'm starting my own regime for preparing my body to do them, along with whatever trainer guy has in mind. It's definitely frustrating! Also did some free weight stuff on the big bouncy ball things (whatever they are called...exercise balls or something?) and attempted to balance my toes on it while rolling the ball back and forth under my legs..that's tough. Pretty easy work out all in all, both trainer boy and I were feeling the 'It's Friday and we don't wanna work' mentality. Definitely need to go at it hard this weekend.
krrpt ~ I don't think you necessarily need to be sore every time you lift weights. Your muscles are still working hard and repairing themselves from your lifting, they may have just adapted somewhat to your routine. Maybe try changing the weight if you can or finding different exercises to try out, like try lying on an elevated surface and, holding a weight in each hand behind your head, lifting up until your arms are straight. Killer on your triceps. Or, while still lying on an elevated surface, have a weight in each hand and your arms extended on either side of you, then lifting them straight up until the weights touch. My chest and inner arms always burn. Or I am sure you can find different things to do with a simple Google search. Good luck!
I think I am going to go out jogging this afternoon as well, try to burn a few more calories on my road to hitting those magical 130's.
karen- technically you can't build muscle at the same time you lose fat.. you can burn more fat by working on your muscles but you need a calorie surplus to build muscle.. same as buidling fat really... you need more of something to build.. I feel like I'm building muscle, but, what do I know... lol... I did just switch up my workout 2 weeks ago :( ah well... I'll just keep on keepin on and increase my weights when I feel like I can... you'll see the 130's soon :) may seem a little slow since you are working on your muscle.. start measuring! I only lost 4 pounds in the last 6 weeks but I lost 2" off my waist!! that's pretty serious! lol! you can do it :)

krrpt ~ Yeah that's what I thought...I am going to try to watch what I eat and see how that goes. Today was my second day of that and I'm doing ok so far, weird to not eat how I usually do but I know in the end I'll benefit. Great job on all the losses for you! That's excellent!
Yeah I guess we did kind of hijack this thread...I am glad I found someone who is on the same track as I am though!

good morning! weight is up today :( 138.. bad day eating on Saturday but I'm ready to get back to the grind and see 135 this week.. my lowest last week was 136.2 so I can almost taste it!! I'm planning good deficits this week with some hardcore exercise :) hopefully the scale will move in my favor!

Good Morning everyone! My weight is the same this morning. 147, and it could be more, but I'm just happy that I didn't gain any more over the weekend.
I worked out pretty good this weekend. Saturday was one hell of a workout, without any weights. Just using the weight of the new trainer, and letting her kick my butt all over her private workout room. Well, I ended up with her for 3 days a week, and not 2 days.
I hope this all works out. I need to lose the rest of this weight.
How was everyones weekend?
Weekend was good...worked all day Saturday so I couldn't work out but I ate pretty healthy which was good, considering the place I worked at has delectable cookies that I usually can't resist and I only ate one. Sunday I spent 2 hours learning how to fly on the trapeze (like in a circus). So much fun! I wish I could have workouts like that.
Was with trainer boy today at the gym...seemed like a relatively easy time really, we only did 2 weight lifting exercises - one was 3 sets of 20 burpees but with a 15lb weight in each hand and when I came up from the squat I had to jump out of it and lift the weights over my head, and the other was 3 sets of 20 tricep pull downs. Then did abs and I was done. But I came home and did a 2 mile run and then more abs and 3 sets of 20 squats and push ups. Geez that sounds like a lot when I type it but it sure didn't feel that way! I was 144 at the gym today when I weighed myself, but that was after eating.

I saw this thread and thought it was a good fit for me. I am 5'8" and am currently hovering around 139. Last may I got to my ultimate weight which was 135! In the time between I broke up with a boyfriend where I emotionally ate all summer long and forced myself to go on 1.5 hour runs but now I'm back to normal.
My goal is to lose those last couple of pounds. I really like to run and should weight lift because it's just embarrassing when I go to a weight lifting class and see girls 20lbs lighter than me lifting more than a 2lb weight and not struggling:). I try to work out daily but sometimes it gets the best of me. ALso, I'm in grad school as well and being poor and having to say no to greesy food can be a bit of a struggle. So I need all the support I can get.

i'm doing okay. haven't been for a run since last monday, unfortunately, but i've dropped a couple of pounds (142.5 today) after hovering between 144 and 145 for what seemed like weeks!
my research is in full swing, now, and i'm going to have to be okay with letting exercise slide for a few weeks. still walking the dog, of course, but - well, you know.
glad to hear everyone else is sticking to it!

I love this thread. I am trying my best to make it to the 130's (my ultimate goal is 133). I haven't made it there yet, but I am close. I have made it to 141.8.....can't seem to make it on down to the 130's. I am traveling now with my hubby, so the scales aren't around to weigh on. I am hopeful when I am home at the end of the week that I haven't done too much damage while I have been gone. I have averaged 11 miles a day walking around to try to keep the eating in balance while I have been with him

krrpt ~ how's the weight lifting going? I am starting to get frustrated too...I did some hard tricep work yesterday with trainer boy and my triceps weren't sore at all...aggh! I really want to work on those and be able to do a pull-up, looks like I'm going to have to ramp my own work outs up if I want to meet my goal.
So funny story....I went to a different gym today just for a change of pace and used their scale to weigh myself - it was one of those digital ones that looks all fancy - and it said I weight 128 pounds. LOL!!! I was like YEAHHHHH!! Hahaha according to that, between yesterday and today I lost 18 pounds. Must be doing something right! I had to supress my urge to start laughing out loud in the locker room because really...that is WAY off. I feel bad for those who actually go by that scales numbers because that is really bad information. This is a gym that you see a lot of people walking reallllllyyyy sloooooowly on the treadmill or kinda sorta doing the elliptical but nothing that burns any sort of calories whatsoever and then they go weigh themselves and think they are all good. Gotta suck when you see how much you really weigh!
Anyway, did a semi-good workout today on my own. Did a 10 minute 6.0 jog on the treadmill, then did intervals of 40 sec at 7.5-8.5 and 1min of 5.6 for 10 minutes, then did incline walking at 13 at 4.0 speed for 10 minutes. (I get bored quick). Moved on to some muscle equipment and did leg presses and lat pull downs and tricep work, then abs and squats and pushups to finish it off. CC says I burned a decent amount of calories so I am happy.

Hello everyone one, new and old. How are you all doing tonight? So far so good. TOM has knocked down the door, and this isn't going to be a good week for my kids.. I am PMSing right now, and I really don't like the mood I am in.
I made it to the gym in time. Working really hard with free weights today. Worked on these areas. Bis, abs, delts, and lats. I will have a day two days of rest, before I got at it again. I will be working on my hams, quads, and abs again in the morning. I am always working on my abs. Mon-Thur... I think I should find some off days for my abs too. I will work it out some kind of way. I know you can't spot train, but I am always working on my abs. Not that it's the worst part of me. But its funny when you only have a 4 pack coming in, and you can't see the rest of the pack at all. I got this pouch. I just might have to go under the knife for that, and there is no creme to fix that problem area. There are no creme to fix any problem area.. Pro Active isn't that good either. Oh well, something will give in due time. My mom tummy tuck looks nice. I am still thinking about it. People are telling me it can be toned up. I mean really ladies... What do you think? Can you "I" get rid of "the pouch"!
Any thoughts on this is welcome.

PG! Keep up the good work. I think I need to run a little more. All your running makes me think... Why did they say.. Weights and Cardio in the first place. You have to add strenght training into your program to get good results they say.... And all you do is hike and run.. WOW! Keep up the good work... Even if you took a break from running. Good job on breaking that plateau. Maybe we all need to take a break, and see what gives.

hi everyone! just a quick check in for me. spent most of the day hunched over the keyboard transcribing (5 hours for a 48 minute interview - ugh!). i did take Kenya out for a pretty decent hike, though: 75 minutes in the snow & hills. it felt really good.
tomorrow i'm going to try to get another transcription done (a shorter interview - yay!) before i have to go to campus for interview #5, so might not get in more than a short walk.
i'm doing reasonably well weight-wise; up a little today over yesterday, but my period started, so the next few days should be kind to me.
damn i'm tired, though!!
PG! Do you gain any weight when you visit comes into town? I do for a few days, and then I level out. I just wish the PMS part of it would say at home, and not come in for a visit. I wish you luck on #5. Keep up the good work. I can't even go running when it's cold here. I have to get past that anyway, and try my best and get her done.
yeah, lynn, i always gain a pound or two before my period, then drop it and a little more by day three or four. this cycle seems a little odd, though, because i dropped two pounds before it started, them bounced up half a pound today, the day it started. very weird....

pg-i am getting my PhD in immunology.
i had a horrible head cold for the past day so I have just been bed ridden for the past day and feeling like crap, but i sadly still ate 1700 calories (aren't you supposed to eat less when you're sick?). Obviously i did not work out.
sadly, i just stepped on the scale and the battery is low so it won't weight me! i am soooo upset. Back to the store for me i guess.
good morning :) Weight is back down to 136.2 today. I'm happy with that and hope to still see 135. something by the end of the week.. No exercise planned today b/c I have class tonight. I did a really tough HIIT workout on my elliptical last night. I was going to lift also but I was exhausted so I didn't. I think in December I'm going to switch my cardio/weights. Now I'm doing cardio 2x a week, weights 3x a week so I think to change my exercise and keep my body guessing, I'll switch to cardio 3x a week and weights 2x a week. :)
karen- that is so mean that they have the scale set up like that! it reminds me of Dodgeball.. I can never remember movie stuff but I know at Ben Stiller's gym they adjusted the weights to make people think they were losing weight.. lol.. weight lifting is going well. I wrote out my 2x/week routine last night for December. chest/tri's/legs and shoulders one day, back/bi's/legs and shoulders another day. resting in between days, of course :) Weight days will probably be Tuesday and Saturday.
lynn- pms is never fun... I'm a lunatic when I get that.. it sucks. I have no advice for your tummy :( not sure how to get that back in shape after babies.. sorry!
pg- This is where I would come in handy.. With my court reporting training I could have gotten that interview transcribed as it was taken ;) at 180 wpm, I probably could have gotten it done in an hour or so! but I'm not set up for real-time transcription yet... lol.. If I were it would have been helpful though! good luck with your next interview!
zorph - everyone around me is sick.. I really hope I don't whatever it is!! I'm eating Zicam like candy and drinking so much water my eyeballs are floating.. lol.. I hope you feel better soon!!

PG, I would gain 2 pounds the day before, and then an extra pound when I start. Then in the middle of the week. After drinking tons of water... And running a lot more.. Since an old PE teacher, told the girls in her class that running is good for helping out the flow. Well, how in the hell can I run when I am cramping like the devil is inside of me.. LOL. I tried to do the 5k this morning, and all I could do was a mile.. I am in pain.. So no running until it's over... I normally last 3 days. So hopefully I will be done with this mess by Friday.. I hate the time of the month.
Karen, I always keep extra batts on hand. Even when it weighs me heavy... I pop a new 9v in, and see if the weight change... It always works.. Once my scale weighed me in at 128, and I knew that was wrong.. The smile didn't last long.. I just got pissed. I knew I didn't drop 20+ pounds over night..
Today girls. I am going to try my best to not eat any sweets. I got 1 mile in this morning and weight training too.. I didn't feel so hot, but I did weight train today. My quads are burning, and that's a good thing in my book. I'm trying to get these legs in shape.. My arms looks pretty damn good.. I just need to watch it. I don't to cut up too much, and my man already said.. I have too much cut for women arms.. What is he talking about. He knows nothing. I think my arms are great.
Well it's cold out, and I need to get ready to go to one more doctors appointment with my uncle. I'm so happy that all this ripping and running is over..
