140s want to be 130s discussion/support group *ALWAYS OPEN*

Quote  |  Reply

taking a page from restless_girl's book, because i don't understand why groups have to be exclusive.

me, i've been kicking around in the 140s (both extremes and everywhere in between) for over a year now, and trying to get down to 135.  at my highest i was 167-ish; that was long ago.  but it seems that every time i knock at the door of 139, i get complacent and backslide (beer & chicken wings anyone?).

weigh-in if you want, or just commisserate and support.  i'll pop in periodically ;)

pg- This is where I would come in handy.. With my court reporting training I could have gotten that interview transcribed as it was taken ;) at 180 wpm, I probably could have gotten it done in an hour or so!

shut up.  shut up shut up shut up.  i'm logging off to transcribe #3 and i hate you.

How's everyone doing? Almost the weekend!

Haven't done a dang thing today...am debating whether to go out for a run or not. I probably should since I have to work on Saturday and I can consider that my day off but am using a rather lame excuse to myself for not going out. So easy to do!

Did well yesterday though. Trainer boy cancelled on me since he was sick and I told him I did not want to be around him so I went and did 20 min of jogging on the treadmill, ending at 7.0, did a lot of machine work on my upper body (tricep dips and captains chair..woo I can finally do it!) and then ended with abs (a plank I held for almost the entire duration of Maroon 5's latest, and side planks). Still not sore though!! It feels like my arms are going to blow up from doing training on them but I never feel it the next day. I still want to be able to do that pull up by January so maybe if I start hitting those back muscles hard-core I will feel it. Anyone here able to do a pull up? What's your secret?

This weekend is mainly going to consist of spending time and lab and studying. I want to run outside, but I haven't run in this cold of weather since i did "indoor track" in high school. I will most likely end up taking a step class. Especially since my friends and I are having a fake thanksgiving tonight, eekK!

Karen: when I have my " i don't feel like working out" days, I go to my gym when a tv show of mine is on (it helps that i don't have cable). I usually picka  1 hour show and walk at 4.5 while watching tv and run during the commericials. I do sort of think its cheating, but its better than nothing.

lynn-awhile ago my mother decided to start running and completely got rid of her pooch. I think to get rid of it, you're going to have to do some serious cardio.

pg-i hope the transcription is going well.

Hi everyone.  It was a pretty good week for me....down to 141....getting so close to the 130's at last.....maybe I will get there in another couple of weeks.  I hope!  I can't remember the 130's it was so long ago that I saw them.

Karen - I have NO upper body strength...no pull ups here!!  I am pretty much worthless Cool

hi all!

okie - i'm at 141, too!  well, 141.4, yesterday and the day before.  haven't weighed myself today yet; i weigh before lunch.

i haven't been running, but i'm getting some decent walks, and the snow adds a little resistance, so i feel okay about that.  i'd love to be able to do a pull-up, too.  i often think about getting a bar for my place, but i'd just dangle ;)  i can do pushups, though.  and i'm amazed at how much upper body strength i've gained just from running!

the transcription is going pretty well: four of five completed interviews done, and i have three more interviews scheduled (sat, mon, & tues).  haven't had any new contacts lately, but i'm happy with eight, so i could conceivably be finished transcribing and on to analysis within a week!!

Zorph ~ I wish I could do that! My gym has tv's but there are only 3 and they are hung from the ceiling so I have to watch whatever it's tuned into and it always, ALWAYS is turned to 1) ESPN 2)CSPAN (or some financial thing) 3)soap opera. Blech! I would love it if my gym had individual tv's for the treadmills...I think I'd be much more inclined to stay on longer than 30 minutes if it did. I run outside too but I've got major mental blocks of going farther than the 2 miles of my normal circuit, it's like as soon as I see my house my body stops because it knows that is where I usually end the runs. Hate how the mind works sometimes!

pg ~ I just bought a bar for my house today...we'll see how that goes. I figure it should give me some incentive to try it more since it's sitting right in front of me. My goal is to be able to do one by my birthday at the end of January, hope that is reasonable!

Hope everyone has a good weekend! I'll probably check in later as trainer boy just made an appointment with me at the gym later on and we all know how I love to report back on that :)

Zorph- Thanks for the advice.. I've been running, but not as often as I would like too.. I'm just going to have to get back into the swing of things, and do what is right for me. It's going to be a hard battle to face, and yes... I know I'm willing to do what ever it takes.

Pg-- Congrats of the 141.4 yesterday. I know you are working your butt off.. Even if you haven't ran in a while. Keep up the good work.

Well girls... I just got the easy push-ups.. It's smooth and easy on your joints. I really like it.. I could feel it in my arms, chest, and back.. I could even feel it in my forearms. I'm going to work with that thing a few times a week. I'm going to try to be good this weekend. I already done cheated myself with sonic. I had a Chicken sandwich, and I gave the fires to my man.. Now! I have to watch it tonight. We are having Pizza, and I couldn't say no to the kids when they asked.. One slice and a salad should be enough for me.. That's what my mind is saying, but I don't know what my mouth is going to be saying when I get it.

Well, Wish me luck... I'm going to try to eat right, and workout as often as I can..

I've discovered (well no, I always knew this) that I am very, very, very impatient. I weighed myself at the gym today and I was still 144. Move scale, dangit!! LOL It's amazing how easy it is to just eat and gain weight but to make the scale move downwards is a huge chore. SIGH.

Anyway, had another session at the gym today. He made me do "real" pushups (which I thought I was doing all along). I've always done real ones, not girl push up with the knees on the floor, but apparently I've never gone low enough to make it a real push up in his book. So I did 20 "fake" push ups and 40 real push ups...those were a struggle. Did almost all tricep work today and they are feeling pretty swollen so hopefully I will be sore tomorrow. Did an extremely easy ab workout too. I have to work all day tomorrow so I won't get gym time but hopefully Sunday I'll get back into it.

Lynn ~ What are the easy push ups?

pg ~ Congrats on the weight! You will see those 130's in no time at this rate. Hopefully I will be right behind you!

Hope you all have a great weekend! Good luck in keeping on track!

good morning ladies! weight went from 135.8 yesterday (yay!) to 137.4 today? Was probably from pizza last night but it's my favorite pizza that I have about every 4 months.. so whatever.. and I only had a tiny slice... No exercise today b/c I'm going to school for an extra class that no one shows up for so I get a private lesson from my favore teacher :) for free! yay! I have a good eating plan today since I'm not working out... OSU V. Michigan is on and I am SOOOO excited! I ♥ football and OSU is the only good team in Ohio.. lol.. even if it is just college!

pg- glad to hear all the transcribing is going well! Just know, I'd help you if I could :) if you ever need something transcribed again, maybe call a local Court Reporting school (if you can find one) and if you're taping the interviews find out if you can have a student transcribe it for you :) they'd have to be in the 180 (+) class.. and you wouldn't have to pay them! I know we're about to do a project transcribing tapes from WW2 vets (I am overly-excited about this, btw!!) and I think it's all going in a book or something? they didn't really give us a lot of detail on it yet.. but good luck and nice job with the weight!

karen- omg.. you'd be jealous.. I did the wii fit yesterday (my mom just got it) and my back muscles are SO SORE!! and my leg muslces!! I've been working my legs a lot though in the past couple days.. My Turbo jam class last night focused on legs.. but yea.. all over sore today! I don't do pull-ups yet.. Next summer me and my b/f are going to be jogging buddies and we pass 3 playgrounds and at each one we're going to do a set of pull-ups :) so let me know how it goes! also.. with all the great weight lifting you're doing it's going to be harder to see the scale move.. don't forget about a tape measure! That will be your best friend while lifting!! you'll be burning more fat but since you are building muscle, which is more dense, it's going to be hard to see a loss of fat going by the scale :) in the past 6 weeks I've only lost about 4.5 pounds, but I also lost about 2" from my waist!! and that's my hardest spot to lose at! so bust out a tape measure!

lynn- good luck this weekend! the weekends are tough but we can do it! :D

I'm taking off now.. I'll talk to you wonderful ladies later :) Have a great weekend!!!!

Karen :) I have an off brand called the easeZPushups.. This is the one what I really wanted, but the off brand will do until I get this one... Here is the link.
www.AsSeenOnTVGuys.com

This is the Push up pro.. They both do the same thing, but I would really like to have the better one if this off brand breaks on me. It rotates your as you push up and down to do your push ups, and you want have a lot of pressure on your risk and other joints. It's a smooth movement. SO far.. It's good and it works. This link will show you what I am talking about. I believe we all seen it on TV before.

Krrpt :) The weekends are never easy at all. It's always a battle to eat right, and I've been trying to get up and in the gym by 5 or 6 in the morning. One good weekend workout is what I do. I started this last weekend, and got the one hell of a beating from the new trainer.. 2 weekends in a row. She's hard, but she's nice.. My arms are very sore from using the easy push up thing. I'm use this thing a few times a week. I trained really hard this morning, and got all my weight training in, and I'm going to go back on Sunday and do a circuit program with her in the morning. I need to lose the rest of this fat.. So far.... It's working. I've gotten down to 144, and I've been at 144 once last week, but I didn't hold on to it long.. So I hope I hope it stays with me this time.

Everyone just wish me luck on Sunday... She said, this is going to be a killer workout, and I can use it.

holy crap!  i just posted today's weight in the November Weight-Loss Challenge thread: 141.0.  i lost 3.7 pounds in a week!!

(and i haven't run in almost two weeks.  things that make you go - "hmmm.")

i mean, okay, some of that was pms weight that was going to come off regardless.  but - damn!  i'm usually lucky to lose a pound and a half between pre- and post-period!

hope everyone else is having as good a week as i am!

(stacey, i know i could hire someone to transcribe for me.  but for all my bitching, i know that this process is going to leave me really knowing my data, and that's a huge advantage when it comes time to analyse.  my brain is absolutely full right now of ideas and connections, so it's all good.  wah wah wah shut up.)

Way to go PG!!!!  Congrats!

oh help! Stuck at 148 lbs. for the past 2 weeks & want to get to 120 lbs. Need tips. Am I eating too much?

hi shihtzu,

we can't tell you if you're eating too much unless you tell us how much you're eating, what you're doing for activities, etc!  sometimes all it takes is little change to make a big difference.

i also think it's very normal for weight loss to level off periodically, as your body adjusts to the change.  i don't exactly believe in set points, but i do believe that every behavioural change has multiple effects, not all of which are immediately obvious.

give us a little more information, and maybe we can help you out.

Wow PG, totally jealous  but also very happy for you! That is awesome! Soooo close to those 130's, I bet you'll hit it within a month. Good for you!

krrpt ~ I never really thought Wii fit could do much but I guess I was wrong! That is great that you are sore, makes you feel like you really did something. Good luck on those pull ups! Let me know how it goes when you start. I am feeling it somewhat in my back from just fooling around with the pull up bar I bought for my apartment yesterday. I hear ya on the losing inches, I really should re-measure myself since I am sure there is a difference there. I guess I am more focused on the scale since that is the number my trainer sees and he kinda made me feel like I weigh too much last time so I just really want to lose a few pounds. Thanks for the encouragement! I am actually sore from my workout yesterday that I did with him so that's a good sign since I wasn't getting sore for awhile there.

Didn't get a chance for a workout today since I had to work all day. I did do ok in the food department though, it's so easy to overeat because there is always catering at my job and they always bring candy and muffins and all kinds of bad stuff. I think the eating right stuff is finally starting to stick. I am making oatmeal chocolate chip cookies right now since I have been craving them but I am taking the majority to a sick friend tomorrow so I won't overindulge.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

bleck... I'm sick... weight is way way up today from my cough syrup and throat lozenge diet this weekend... yay water retention..

I'll post again when I'm feeling a little better :(

Still at 141.0.  Geez, what does a girl have to do to make it to the 130's?  I had a good weekend both food and exercise wise....no movement of the scale.  That's OK though, it will eventually happen, probably just in time to gain it back with Christmas cookies, fudge and toffee (which will be totally worth it to me).

hey everyone!

stacey - hope you're starting to feel better!  being sick sucks.  do you have a runny nose?  that's the worst.  i can have a broken limb and not complain, but give me a runny nose and i turn into an absolute baby.

okie, i haven't stepped on the scale yet today; i'm a little scared.  yesterday i was down to 140.8, and that's typically when i have a rebound effect and cut myself off at the knees.

i have two more interviews--today and friday--and a lot more transcribing to do, but i'm making progress.  hopefully can get back into running soon.  doggie has sore feet from the crunchy snow, though, so i have a good excuse to stay close to home ;)

stick with it everyone.  the results will come!

I'm feeling just a bit better... It's more chest congestion than anything. I haven't had a voice for 3 days.. my b/f appreciates that ;) runny nose just kicked in today and it isn't too bad. I'm keeping up with a little exercise and eating well. Weight is going down from the weekend bloat and my sister and I made an exercise date tonight at my apartment.. lol... We'll be working out for about 2 hours and this is self-induced from eating 4 of her homemade cookies this afternoon.. It sounds like a lot of exercise but I just want to do my normal weight lifting routine (60 minutes) and 30-45 minutes of light jogging on the elliptical. I'm actually getting pretty amped up about it.. but that could just be the sugar rush kicking in...

any battle plans for Thanksgiving? I guess I'm going to try and eat like a normal human being instead of stuffing my face.. but I can't make any promises ;) I only get homecooked meals this good once a year. On Thanksgiving.. lol.. so, it is what it is and I'll eat what I want and get back to my healthy eating on Friday 11/28... deal? :P

pg- nice job with the weight! That's awesome! KEEP IT UP!! YOU CAN DO IT!! glad to hear you're wrapping up the interviews.. as tedious as it sounds I bet all the info you're gathering is rather fascinating.. no? :)

all right.. back to work for me.. I'll talk to you ladies soon :)

and karen - were the cookies for me, your "sick friend"? ;) thanks, but no thanks.. I've had enough cookies today.. lol! and that's so great that you are perfecting the healthy eating! I wish I could get a grasp on that.. everytime I do, I ruin it.. ugh.. just need to focus and make it a habit...
