i just stared this diet , been on it for two days and i have lost 6 lbs so far this is great. i know it is probably water weight but i am going to keep at it. i will repost at the end of 7 days. does anyone know the long term affects of this diet. thanks
Please let us know when you finish with this. Most people get tired of the extra gas and the lack of food choices.
Please add a bit of protein daily. Adding three ounces of chicken to your soup each day could help you out in the long run.
I am not advocating this diet, don't get me wrong. There is a good chance when you are done with it that you will gain back what you have lost plus a few more pounds. You will have to learn for yourself what works and what doesn't.
Ask Mary can give you some good advice on how to lose weight without dieting, so can a lot of us members. If you need help just ask.
thanks for the input i will post how it goes. i have not had any gas hopefully i waon't get it thanks for the heads up.
The old Cabbage soup routine rears it's stinky ugly head again. The gas only strikes in the public library, the bank, a crowded bus, and sometime church. Do you honestly think you're going to eat more than 5 or 6 bananas in one day? Betcha ya can't. Good luck to you. If nothing else this will be a story to tell the grandkids later on down the line. I don't think Spoiled Candy gave you a heads up; re-read what she wrote.
it's a fad crash (unhealthy) diet and not associated at all with Sacred Heart Medical...
http://www.everydiet.org/sacred_heart_diet.ht m
The Sacred Heart Diet is a fad diet that has been circulating for many years. The diet was supposedly thought to come from the cardiology department at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital where it was used for overweight heart patients. However, like most of these diets - this is an urban myth.
The Sacred Heart Diet has been called a number of different names (such as the Spokane Heart Diet, the Cleveland Clinic Diet, Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital Diet and the Miami Heart Institute Diet). The diet also bears a striking resemblance to the cabbage soup diet. (also a fad crash unhealthy diet)
This diet is not recommended
- The Sacred Heart Hospital in Montreal Canada (Hôpital Sacre Coeur) issued a press release in 2004 stating that "no nutritionist at the Hospital took part in the development of this diet".
- The American Heart Association have claimed that the diet is phony (ref).
- The Sacred Heart Medical Center also disclaim any association with the diet (ref).
The Sacred Heart diet is a soup-based diet, and claims that you will lose 10-17 pounds in the first week. This may be true, but most of the weight will tend to be water - and will be gained right back very soon after the diet.
This diet is very clearly an unsustainable fad diet, but is not as nutritionally unsound as similar diets. Most of these diets claim some magical fat-burning science is involved, or that there is something special about the combination of foods. This is simply untrue - it is nothing more complex than a reduction in calories!
if you can stick with it more power to you.
It's another one of those awful crash plans that honestly I wish people would stop trying. Had to fight past nausea and I don't think I can ever look at celery in soup ever again.... the one I tried had celery.... ugh. I can't go there. And the green pepper. bleh.
I lost weight, got sick the week later and ended up losing 15# fast and guess what.... they all came back.
I guess if it was just to get a size down for a special event dress... something like that.... maybe but for anything longer term it's really just not worth the hassle.

It's so much easier if we just make up our minds that the only way to truely lose the weight and keep it off is to change our habits for good, take it off slowly, and concentrate on overall health. I wasted too many years trying crazy diets, desperately trying to lose. Like you, I'd lose and gain it back plus more. My aunt and I tried this stupid soup years ago (it's been around for a long time) and had the same experience.
Now I just eat a balanced diet of all the food groups, limit my portions and count my calories. I've changed a lot of bad habits for good ones and know that it will last me all my life, not just for now. It makes me happy to know that I'll never "diet" again.
Couldn't agree more claire. It's oddly funny that a nurse at my ortho's office was the one that recommended it and said how much she lost. Wish I hadn't tried it but at least now I know better. My mom and aunts did this years ago and I remember mom always being on some funky diet, now she just doesn't care so I try to just follow my own example.
Even if I plateau I won't be doing this ever again. After that regain I just kept exercising with my gazelle, cut portions and went to smaller size plates and lost 40#. Making some more changes now and I'll be able to hit my goals without fads. Let stress go to the emotional eating cope instead of just trying to exercise more... big mistake.

Weight gain.
yep. If someone were to stay on it for a long time, there would be malnutrition because there's too little protein and fat, and I think it's low in calcium and B vitamins. All are essential.
Bellbowen, did you complete the 7 days? were you able to eat the 6 bananas lol? I'm thinking about trying it. It seems that all those who have tried it have lost at least the first 6lbs. The only complaints I hear are from those who havent tried it and in no way would I plan on sticking with this kinda except for these kinda situations where Im in a bind. I want to loose as much weight as possible by this Saturday. So was it worth it afterall?

Here's a great big complaint from someone who tried it multiple times back in the 80s - IT DOESN'T WORK. and it's sickening and unhealthy.
Please read this from our nutritionist:
Is the Sacred Heart Hospital diet good to do?
Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. This diet is NOT recommended.
