The Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital Soup Diet???
Has anyone ever gone on this diet? Does it work?
I'm making it right now and I'm about to start tomorrow on it. I've heard from my mom and some other people that it works. Then I read on the internet that it works but you'll gain everything back when you get off it.
Just wondering from people who have tried it. Thanks!

My friend has been on this diet for 3 days and has lost 7lb already. She says she feels great and is sleeping alot better at night. I am going to start on Monday.....I recently lost 4 stone on Lighter Life and have gained a few pounds so this will be great to shift them!
7lbs in three days! How tall is she and how much does she weigh (in lbs)? Because i'm sure it varies depending on this. I'm just curious!
She is 5ft 3" and weighed 13st 6lb when she started.
I can tell you from my experience with this diet - two things will happen
#1 - You will get so sick of the smell and taste of that soup you'll have a hard time even looking at cabbage again
#2 - The minute you go off the soup, you'll gain back everything you lost.
Let me know if I'm wrong!

I decided to try this diet mainly as a kick start. I'd already lost 30lbs over the last year but I seem to have plateaued so I'm just using the rapid weight loss as a motivational tool.
I've already been on it three days and it's honestly not bad. I haven't cheated and there haven't been any adverse side effects such as lightheadedness or nausea. The craving for bread was pretty bad the first day but that has subsided. The soup hasn't gotten old quite yet since you're able to supplement it each day with a different food. Other than that we'll just see.
I hadn't been eating the best for the last couple of weeks so this is just putting me on track. I'll have a more balanced diet after this is over.
Progress so far: 4lbs lost

I tried the diet a month ago and I did lose a total of 10 pounds, and that was without any exercise and without cheating. I noticed that after the diet I didn't have the urge to eat the same types of foods nor could I eat as much as I use to.
My recommendation would be that if you decide to go on this diet use it as a way to change your eatting habits not just as a mechanism to lost weight.

Ive done this diet many moons ago many times...and I gained it back. Could never get past a week, sometimes I couldnt even make it to the banana day. My mom did it long term and lost weight. But the biggest thing to note is that she also started losing her hair due to lack of nutrition...

Fad Diets
It's not just me saying this is unhealthy and ineffective. It's every major medical center, non profit health organization, and educational institution in the world! I've already explained that diets that restrict entire food groups and require eating a lot of one thing do not work for long. That thread is my proof.
The only way to take off weight and keep it off for life is the slow, sensible way - portion control, a balanced diet and exercise. Counting calories is only part of the picture.
If you want to spend your life losing and gaining weight over and over, each time gaining back a few more pounds than you started, then this diet is for you. But if you want to keep it off and be as healthy and strong as you can be, then throw it in the trash with all the other fad diets.

how bad is it really if you drink alcohol one night on this diet?
The entire diet is bad. I don't know who came up with this one so there's no way to know if alcohol can be included. All the references have no source reference or any name to check. They all seem to trace back to some website in India. It's bogus.
I think if your plan is to lose weight fast for a certain event coming up, this diet is ok. You're eating vegetables and fruit so it's not that bad for you. Then after the event, you can start eating healthy and exercising to either keep the weight off or just to be healthier.
im on it now. my second day and its not bad. i just want somthing sweet
BAD! but im gonna stick with it and ill post how much i lost
If your mother has done it several times before, what's to swear by??? It means it's working just for the short term.
You need enough calories so that your body doesn't panic & grab & store as fat all food you feed it when you go OFF the diet.
Don't mess with your metabolism, hun. Eat the soup you're making, but as part of your day. Balance your diet with protein. Stay healthy.
edit: Okay, when I did cabbage soup for dieting it had only fresh veggies in it - no cans of broth, MSG, nothing unhealthy. This looks... bleh. Reward yourself w/ a potato & butter. Huh. I hope you decide to skip it!
Good luck!

Yup..clairelaine knows her stuff! It seems to me that this recipe is very high in sodium. (Something you DON'T want)!
this is my first post.. been reading about SHD and am starting on it tomorrow... not morbidly obese, but friends have lost 8 -10 lbs in 7 days.... and I don't think it's THAT unhealthy for 7 days a month.. you get veggies and friuts, meat and even some carbs... as far as gaining it back after... that goes for ANY diet if you don't use some common sense with eating... WW or Atkins or any other diet.. probably gets pretty boring, but seems to be worth the effort IF one can lose.... I'm not that worried about it... it allows you to eat all the things the nutritionists and doctors tell you to eat and it's only for a short time.... I know exercise and lower calories is the best way, but this diet is lower calories that require self dicipline and there's no reason you can't exercise through it.... I read of some losing up to 40 lbs in a few months on this diet and don't tell me that's all water .....I think it's OK for a few days a month???....
Hi, I am 22 and I weigh 123lbs 5'2 and I started the SHD Diet 6 days ago and I have lost 3lbs I am working towards 112lbs..so far the diet is not that bad the soup can get a little boring but just like any diet, you never want to stay on it LOL! But I am a BIG SWEET eater and having no candy or cooies is hard for me but that would be the case with any diet..so far so good I'll let you know my ending results
hi I am 32 weigh approx 180 lbs i have tried many diets but am about to start this diet but am gonna stop doing it on a friday so can still enjoy my saturday night drink will let u know how it goes
I can't emphasize enough what a bad, bad idea this diet is. You WILL gain back every ounce and then some when you go off it. It's not good for sustainable weight management.
There are no shortcuts. If you want to lose weight and keep it off for life, and never diet again, then you have to make the hard choices and make the changes in eating and exercise. You have to make these changes for life, not just for now.

Years ago I heard at work that a lot of people had tried it and it worked for them every time to lose 10 to 15 pounds in a week... EVERY time I tried it, it didn't work for me, and now I can't stand the smell of the soup. Don't do it... sooooo not worth the effort and aggrivation.
Where the original diet began is debatable, but for me it makes quiet a bit of sense.
Fruits and vegetables are healthy and eating certain food combinations is an idea that has been around for a long time. This reminds me of "The Maker's Diet" which is based on biblical principles for our diet.

We are in a health crisis. Virtually every disease is on the rise, and we have never been at greater risk. Statistics indicate that nearly 25% of the population is morbidly obese, with 60% classified as overweight; childhood obesity is a health concern for the first time in our recorded history.
Fortunately, there is a way for us to help control whether or not we become part of the grim health statistics, but it requires proactive participation. From the inception of humanity until now, there has been a plan for optimal health.
Humanity's design has not changed, and neither has its nutrition requirements. Historical human nutrition and contemporary scientific studies indicate a way of nourishing the body that will attain and maintain overall health in the way it was designed. In as little as 40 days, "The Maker's Diet" can transform the way you eat and live.
The health statistics reflect what the "modern" diet can do; the challenge is to discover what "The Maker's Diet" can do!
No diet works! A lifestyle change is necessary to enjoy the quality of life that most desire as they grow older. I do not see this as a fad nor as unhealthy. I love fruits and vegetables and I eat relatively healthy; however, I am unable to lose the weight I had on prior and post cancer treatments. Now it is more important than ever that I take a serious look and decide - do I want to put the effort into "me" or do I want to take my chances with fat turning to estrogen (my cancer was HER2 positive and estrogen was a huge part of that).
I will keep everyone posted on how it works, but I thought it was worth addressing. I read positive / negative feedback on this diet, but I think eating healthy is the key as we all know. Adding excercise I already do, but to date has not assisted in any weight loss for me.
Good luck to everyone working toward a healthier lifestyle through weight loss and/or the incorporation of additional physical activities. I suggest Yoga as one of the best all around workouts for the mind & body.
