I have been feeling great that I've lost more than 40lbs. Yet, today I saw a picture that killed me. I looked horrible and humongous!!!!

I'm feeling like I'm trying so hard for nothing.

Its is one of the saddest days ever............  Cry

so you weigh 155 pounds and it's one of the SADDEST days ever? sorry this is bigger than the number on the scale. you are by no means fat and if a picture can ruin an entire day i think you have larger issues to deal with. please be proud of how far you've come and try to think rationally.

Please seek some help.  Talk to a counselor, a clergyman/woman, your parents, but get some perspective.  This sounds like the potential beginning of a path that you do NOT want to go down.

Oh great!!! Now I have issures cause I saw myself fat in one picture. Great motivation!

So you posted..."a sad day, a picture ruined it" because:

a) you really think you're fat - given your weight I'd say you  might have issues

b) you're looking for attention or drama - this speaks for itself

c) you didn't think before you hit the post button - poster beware

d) some other intensely personal reason - this is a public forum

Have you ever been over 200lbs?

Have you tried to do something about it and actualy done it? Then you hit a wall when you see yourself with all your fat hanging out?

Yes, I'm 155 but I never said I was fat I said I looked!! There is a difference. I was looking for someone that has gone through the same. Obioulsy that is not your issue. Right?

Statistics show that people who were once very overweight still identify themselves the same way as they did before they lost the weight.  It's a trick the mind plays on you because it takes time for it to get used to looking the way you do.  It actually sees something different from what really is.

That is the first problem.  The second is that your idea of what is "fat" has dramatically changed.  40 pounds ago you had normalized (grown accostomed to) the size you were at, and so people looked smaller, thinner to you.  Now your perspective has changed because you have a particular size in mind.  You are looking at yourself with much, much too thin eyes.

Try checking out a chart like the one here: http://www.stayhealthy.com/page/viewedfb.html ?id=stats/obesity

and you'll see where you really stand (as long as you are looking at it realistically.

Hope this helps http://getalegupforlife.blogspot.com/

My stats are very similar to those you've posted only I've regained 15 of those lost pounds.

One major suggestion, don't crane your neck to look at a camera, I don't care how much you weigh you'll get a "I don't look like that photo"  turtlenecks are fine in clothing buy you really don't want anyone else in possession of such an unflattering picture as you can't delete the damn thing.

Thanks   alyshiadavies!!

I've had plenty of people tell me I look great and yes one dumb picture can cause sadness. I never realized that could be what is going on.

Thanks for that! Laughing

Honey even the skinnest most prettiest of people can have a bad photo day - look at the gossip mags when they print unflattering pics of celebs! And yes it can make you feel terrible. Be proud of how well you've done and don't let one photo get you down, I'm sure you are beautiful! :)

Relax. x_x

You did go off the deep end a little saying "its one of the saddest days of my life," and all the other stuff. Of course there are people on here that are 200+ (How do you think they feel if you're moaning and groaning about "feeling" fat at a mere 155 pounds?).

Be nice to smwhipple, their advice is actually quite good. You might have some issues if this freaks you out.

If you need some advice/encouragement, by all means, ask for it. That's what this forum is for and you're certainly not the first to hit a wall or "feel fat." That's what this whole site is for!

Don't base you feelings off of a picture. Even models can get some funky images. So just relax.

Also, a number on the scale isn't the ONLY measure of success, it's just the easiest on to obtain. There's how you feel, how you look, and measurements and a whole lot of other things. This is a lifestyle change, not a race, so it's not like you can stop once you get there anyway.

Be happy you lost the 40 pounds and, as my grandmother says, "Put on your big girl panties" and move on. <3

((This is really ironic, since I've made a slew of crybaby posts. <.<))

Just remember that weighing 200 pounds was in the past. Celebrate what you've accomplished and do what makes you happy in the long term.

I dont really think it was one of the saddest days of your life. I just think that you were shocked at how you looked in the photo and taken by surprise.

I too, have had days where seeing a photo shocks me because once upon a time I was 200lbs as well. I have since lost 40 of those lbs, but still am surprised at how I look in photos sometimes (sometimes good, sometimes bad!) LOL

Dont give up, just move on!
