how safe is hoodia?

Quote  |  Reply
I'm only 19 years old and I'm considering Hoodia. Did any of you that tried it experience any bad side effects? Also, can anyone recommend me any "good" Hoodia? The only one I have access to is the one in Duane Reade it's called " H57."

I tried Hoodia, Thermogain, Burn60 and a couple other pills... None of them had the same effects as diet and exercise...

Just my two cents...
I toke pills, all that happened was damage my insides, not good.. diet and excersise, I have lost more weight easier from diet and excersising that pill popping.
I agree the healthy way is to eat right and exercise.

#2 chrisrai Dec 25 2006 16:36 I have taken different types of pills before, and they all damaged me on the long run, so I wouldn't do it. from a person that use to be a pill popper, eat well, it works better than the pills... trust me

canadianchick what happened? did i do multiple post?
I had bad side effects from one dose of Hoodia.

My mouth became so dry one hour after taking it that I literally could barely breathe. I thought I was dying, and was considering calling 911, when I fell asleep on the sofa.  When I woke up four hours later, I was still terribly dry - but not as bad. It took an additional six hours for it to mostly wear off, and a full day for it to completely wear off.

Needless to say, I never took it again.
I tried it.. it had absolutely no affect on me.. not on my appetite or anything else.. I even doubled the dose... still nothing... waste of money
It had absolutely no affect on me either, and I tried doubling the dose as well, it was a big waste of money.  I sent back the remainder of my shipment to the company that I bought it from back in November and still did not receive a refund.
I got really awful headaches, but it did almost TOTALLY supress my appetite. I almost never take it (I would return it to GNC, but I lost my receipt).
There is a complete lack of scientific evidence that Hoodia is helpful in directly helping weight loss.

All there is is evidence that the skinny (and frequently already underweight bushmen of the Kalahari) use it as an appetite supressant because they chronically face famine and want their miserable life feeling a little more bearable by not feeling continually the pangs of hunger...

There is however plenty of evidence that the bulk of so called Hoodia marketed is either fake or nearly a fake for the simple reason that the Hoodia plant only grows in small pockets of South Africa and only a small amount is exported (an amount far smaller than Worldwide sales of Hoodia). Most products marketed as "Hoodia" contain only traces of it and are mostly Ephedrine.

Most negative symptoms reported when consuming hoodia actually come from Ephedrine or other compounds.

If you want to starve yourself in order to loose weight go ahead, and take over the counter appetite supressants, but except experiencing a placebo effect or transferring your hard earned cash into the pockets of people even more devious than a proverbial used car salesman, I would expect nothing else to happen from using Hoodia.

My personal experience is that starving yourself in order to loose weight DOES NOT WORK in the long run and in fact can make your weight problem grow worse with time.

Only a calculated diet and proper exercize regimen will bring long lasting results.

Just like most things in life, there is no magic bullets as far as weight loss is concerned.

Dear,

A healthy lifestyle is the best way to lose, and keep off weight. If there were a magic pill, this site (and thousands of gyms) would not exist. Eat smart, but more importantly, exercise. Exercise religiously. Do it at least five times a week. Calculate your net calories. You can control your weight, and your weight loss. Good luck and live healthy!

What about using Hoodia in combonation with diet and excercise? Has anyone tried that? I am getting closer to my goal but my weight loss is slowing down and would like a little helper. Just wondering!

It looks to me like you lost 20 pounds in 10 weeks which is fantastic.  Just stay on course, you don't need help just keep doing what you're doing.  Your goal is not that far away.

Jeff
I know it, I just had a baby and am breastfeeding so I won't start on anything because of that. I guess I'm more curious than anything...
Whatever you decided to do, just don't let go eating right and EXERCISE. I take diet supp and multi vits just as what they are, SUPPLEMENTS; not replacements. I still track my eatings, and routinely working out every day. Results? Sure! But will it work if I just popping in pills, nope. Will it work if I just eat & exercise? hahaha I'm sure it will, just probably not as fast ... ^_^; Like their disclaimer said: "result shown when supp taken with proper diets and exercise" Enuf said :)

It works.

And it's not a placebo effect.

You have to make sure you get it from a certified provider. You have to make sure it's 100% pure. It can take weeks to build up in your system to the point where it curbs hunger, or it might work immediately.

I'm on medifast, My caloric intake is below 1000 calories right now. I'm a 292 pound man with an overly healthy appetite. Hoodia disconnects me from that hunger. I can sit in a room with people eating my favorite foods and feel no desire to eat.

Hoodia is no miracle cure. If you eat out of boredom or food addiction... It won't help you. If your dedicated it gives you the edge you need to stay on your diet.

I've lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks. No that's not healthy... but I'm a 40 year old diabetic who is grossly obese, I'm already headed for heart failure country by 45 If I don't reign in the weight.
