safflower oil and CLA

Quote  |  Reply
Anyone here who knows about CLA, please respond.

I've read about the benefits of supplementing with CLA but it's expensive. Since the best source of CLA is Safflower oil, and it's said that weight loss and lean muscle increase is said to be gotten at 3 to 4 grams of supplementation, I wonder if it would be acceptable to take one tablespoon of safflower oil to get CLA.

I am aware that it's 120 calories, all from fat. But I don't eat much fat elsewhere in my diet and I can account for the extra 120 calories without going overboard.

Does anyone know how much CLA is in one tblsp of Safflower oil?

Um.... what is CLA?
I've read that safflower oil is 75% linoleic acid - how much of that is conjugated I can't say. But using that number, to get 3 gms, you would probably need 4 gms of the safflower oil.

You can try it and see what happens. It sounds like you could use the extra fat, too. I also suggest that you use a cold-pressed, unrefined oil to preserve the natural goodness.

Let us know how it works for you.
