Sagging skin!

Quote  |  Reply
Since I started losing weight, I've developed this ridiculous fear of excess saggy skin... especially around my abdomen area.

To those of you that have lost a considerable amount of weight: What are your experiences with this?

I'm worried about the same thing.  I think it is inevitable with all I have to lose (150).  But nothing is as bad as all this extra weight.  I guess if the sagging skin is that bad I will consider surgery.
If you don't lose weight too fast, and keep your skin moisturized, it can really bounce back into shape.  It might not be perfect, and surgery is always an option, but give your skin the nutrition and care it needs to be healthy, and it may surprize you!
Im not sure but I think and may be I'm wrong by the way. as you lose the weight doesn't the skin tighten up with the excercise you are doing to help lose weight? I know that as I start to lose a lot of my weight I am finding that I have much more energy and dont have to make my self do the excercise any more. I have lost 35 lbs not a lot but still enough to show the difrence and my skin doesnt seem way out of control.
I'm 21, male, 5'5''

i lost 20 lbs in 7 weeks. from 165 lbs to 145 lbs.

but recently, i noticed the skin in my arms (biceps) are sagging just a bit! even though i am swimmiing and walking (for at least 2 hours a day).

say, for example, my skin does sag and i continue eating healthy and doing exercise, isn't it just logical that my skin shrink eventually too?

i mean, sure, it might sag for a year or two, but eventually, when the body needs an extra energy, can't it get it from the sagging skin?

please help.

thanks!

Interesting!  I have lost about 10 pounds, and I notice some sagging in the skin under my arms.  I have 5 pounds to go before I get to my ideal weight.  I was thinking of starting to do push ups to see if this will help!  My arms have always looked good, so this is bothering me too!
I think age matters.  Supposedly, 30s the turning point where your skin doesn't bounce mack as easily.
anyone has an answer to my query (above)?

would the skin eventually shrink through time?

thanks!

I was under the impression that if there is a lot of serious sagging skin, then it doesn't simply tone itself up.  I have a friend who lost a LOT of weight, and she's had saggy skin for years.
i have heard it doesnt, but my skin was really sagging in my arms. then i started doing some weights and after 2 or 3 days they looked better. i still have to tone but weights and toning helps! good luck!
I heard that over time it does reduce. I have also heard that you have saggy skin because there is still fat attached to the skin which is weighing it down - so to get rid of it you need to get to something like 10% body fat then it doesnt sag (don't quote me on that though!).

So many theories. I'm so scared but I would rather have a little floppy skin than be the way I am now. I believe in toning and lots of water! - lets hope im right lol
I was worried about that as well. Here is an article that coincides with what spirtey has to say.

Article on sagging skin after weight loss.
Your skin can get its natural shape back. Skin is made to stretch, as you see women who are pregnant their skin stretches and can go back easily.

From reading many articles online, if you lose weight slowly ( not having a gastric bypass and staples etc) by your diet and exercise it shouldnt be anything to worry about. Also by doing weight training it will build some muscle  and prevent any excess skin from showing . I have a grand example for you to show you how well your skin can go back to its natural form....Ricki Lake. Look how beautiful she is ...and no sagging skin!

See Ricki Lake after losing half her body weight!

Quote from Ricki Lake ?I was 260 pounds and a size 24. Now I?m 120 something and this is me,? Ricki enthused. ?(I?m) less than half my size ... This is the thinnest I?ve ever been in my life.?

thanks dahhhlings! :D

hopefully, our skins do go bounce back to it's natural form and hug our muscle beutiffuly after we lose the excess fats. ;p

thanks! :D

If you loose weight slowly and healthily, and do strentgh training to build up the musles you will have a lot less skin sagging, to very little. The people with the most problems are usually those who lost a lot of weight very quickly and/or didnt' build up any muscle to tighten things up.

I have very little sagging on my legs from doing lots of walking/jogging, but I neglected my upper body and have the saggy upper arms and boobs to prove it.  I also have some on my belly, but hopefully as I tone my core I can tighten some of that up.

Skin is elastic but it needs time to   adjust.

Yet another reason why slow and steady is the best pace.
I lost about 70 lbs. over a year and have never experienced saggy/wrinkly skin.

I think the trick is to lose weight slowly and take your time. If you try to lose it too quickly, loose skin CAN, I believe, be an issue.
As I am over 50 now I can say the skin hangs, when I was younger and gained and lost - the skin bounced back - it doesn't anymore :(
I think I will really have to do some weight lifting real soon. coz i have no problem with my legs as i walk a lot (1 to 2 hours a day). it's my upper body that i'm worried about. god, i hope my arms' skin dont sag!

good thing i've been losing 1-2 lbs a week only. so that's a good sign. :D

let's hope for the best. ;p

I've always heard that if you exercise while losing weight you will have little or no sagging skin.  So, make sure you exercise while you lose weight.  Also, drink a lot of water.  Please do not lose weight first, then try to tune up.  BIG MISTAKE  !!!  Good Luck

Hello ,

My name is Maxxine. Recently I decided to follow a loss weight recipe but I am starting to be concern about my skin. I don't want to have a saggy looking skin. So , any tips? Is there a cream or treatment I should use? Please advise. Thank you
Skin is elastic but not "perfectly elastic."

It will shrink back but there will be a limit to how much comes back to normal after any weight loss.

The faster you lose the greater the risk of sagging.  More reason not to starve yourself.
