I like salad--I have nothing against it.  That said, I hate it when salad gets soggy because I kept the dressing in too long.

Now, I'm a student, on the go a lot of the time, and I don't really have a fridge to keep the dressing in separately on campus.  I've tried to put it into a small, separate container, but the ones I have are too large to fit just a tablespoon or so of dressing, and I don't really see any smaller ones at the grocery store.  Everything I find holds like a quarter cup of stuff, and the dressing spreads out in the container and I can't get it out.

So my question is...how do I enjoy a small salad as a healthy snack or a salad as a healthy lunch?  How do you solve this problem?  I like to have high calorie things like dressing measured out exactly because it's easier to make sure my caloric intake is right, so just putting more dressing in the container doesn't seem like an option.

I'd appreciate any input...thanks!

All you need is a suitable sized container.   Might be something you can find in a pharmacy rather than a grocery store.  An empty pill bottle would do the trick, for example.  If you know anyone that still uses 35mm film in an old-style camera the cases they used to come were about the right size.   Art/craft shops might sell little pots for people to put paints or other materials in.   Think laterally...

I got little tiny container from a Tupperware party. It holds about 2 tbsp and it fits right into my larger salad container. I love it.

The art & crafts thing above gave me a good idea: you can buy small tubes at a bead store.

look at a dollar store or down the paper goods aisle at the store and see if you can find those small cups that restruants use to put dressing and things in. worse comes to worse order a salad some where and ask for it on the side they'll put it in one of those lil take away containers.

I saw this a few years ago and have bee dying to get one ever since.  I've heard that they are really great.  Right now they are on sale at Avon.  It's called a salad shaker and it holds 2 tbsp dressing and if you have a freezer, you freeze the ice pack and snap it into the lid, and that keeps the lettuce fresh and the dressing cold.  You just release the dressing into the lettuce when you are ready to eat and shake.  Since you are at school you can just run to the bathroom after and rinse it out so you aren't carrying a dirty container around with you.

Problem totally solved!

At Publix I saw these tiny little containers that would be perfect.

At target I also saw this salad keeper that kept the dressing separate and there was a little release to pour it on the salad.

wow...that's so very creative!  I will try and get myself to the store and do any one of those things.  THat avon tupperware though, that's just a lil bit sexy ;)

You could also buy some of those snack size ziplock baggies -- then when you want to add the dressing to the salad, take some scissors and snip one corner and squeeze the dressing out that way.  Similar to the salad dressing packets you get at local fast food chains, but much healthier!
