Is Salad Limitless?

Quote  |  Reply
I know the majority of salad is made up of water.  Is it true you can eat ALL the salad you want and not worry about gaining weight?

I know too much of anything isnt good, what is the deal with salad

I would think you can, but then again it seems impossible to not gain any weight from eatting an unlimited amount of salad?

well, depends on the ingredients :)  vegetables and the stuff we add like cheese and dressing and peas and bacon bits and nuts and seeds and croutons and bits of meat all have calorie values.

the vegetables especially have fiber in them and can be low calorie with lots of volume so they make a good choice to help us feel full and satisfied.

but it is critical to eat enough food and a variety of types so we get the nutrition we need for healthy bodies and salad is just a part of it :)
Well I don't see why not unless you add tons of dressing on it but usually salad barely has any calories.  It should say how much it has on the site.  My problem with eating salad is that it never fills me up so matter how much of it I eat I eventually need a real warm meal
lets say salad with no toppings or dressing would this be true?
agavioli ~ i'm not sure what you mean by no toppings.  Do you mean lettuce only?

you can use the tools here to estimate the number of calories in your salad.  for example:

1 cup lettuce, cos or romaine

http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/11 251.html

then check the next ingredient.  you can search for the link here:

the number of calories in a salad depends on what you put in yours.  everyones is different.

but if you know how much you are eating in salad, then you know how many more calories in other foods you will need to eat for the day to get your minimum calories in ~ for a woman, that should be at least 1,200 and may be more if you are taller, younger, more active.

Hope this helps :)

salad is so low in calories that your body uses more calories to digest it than it has in it.  A leaf of lettuce has 3 calories in it... so if it is 'lettuce'.. not really 'salad' that you are referring to, than i dont think you can gain.  I mean you'd get completely sick of it before then.

now if it has dressing and carrots, cabbage, etc, then ya you can if you ate THAT much.  But i mean cmon! Who would do that?
thanks everyone! thats what i meant lettuce.

it just fascinates me how u can get as much as u want of it and not gain weight! wow!
agavioli ~ how many heads of lettuce can you eat ~ b4 your brain revolts?

for me, variety is important... so although I could eat lettuce all day long, i'd rather smother it in toppings... and those calories count...

cheers, :)
i've been known to eat three heads of romaine myself.. but sometimes it makes me feel sick because the volume is so huge. lettuce with just a tiny amount of turkey breast and some icbinb spray is yummy!
yeah egg whites make a good topping with lemon juice or vinegar as dressing!

it fascinates me that u can eat as much as u want without gainning weight, doesnt this amaze u too? topping it with lemon juice dressing makes it very enjoyable!
i actually made a really low cal salad tonight and it was a twist on a TGIF salad.

1 bbq chicken breast (use 2 tsp of bbq)
corn
romaine lettuce
turkey bacon crumbles
2 tbsp lite ranch dressing

all that for under 400 calories :)

lol thanks pandajenn for bringing that over. :)
