Salads with 1,000+ calories....

Quote  |  Reply

I thought it would be cool to list some of salads that have more calories than 2 Big Macs combined. My personal favorite is T.G.I. Friday's Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad. The dinner portion is 1,360 calories. I don't even know how many grams of fat are in it, but I know that it has a LOT. Probably not the best thing for you, but it's my favorite and I always eat it when I go there.

Quizno's flatbread salad with honey mustard dressing is over 1100 calories. A really heartbreaking moment for me when I discovered this because I used to order it all the time.

Doesn't it suck to think that you were trying to eat "healthy" and avoided eating that cheeseburger or those fries because a salad sounded better. Then you find out that the salad was worse then the cheeseburger and the fries combined? However, I bet if you only used half of the dressing and removed some of the the parts of the salad that were high in calories (did it have cheese?) you could reduce the amount of calories in it.

haha!  That Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad at TGI's has got to be the biggest misleading salad i've ever seen!

I'm usually really good at determining which salads will have high calories and which won't, not that I make my decisions based on that, but I can usually tell just by looking at the ingredients in them, but I was seriously fooled by this one.  I couldn't believe it when I looked up the stats.  I mean yeah yeah, dried cranberries, glazed pecans, bleu cheese, but still, they don't put that much of these on there...it was the pecan crusted chicken that threw me.

It's ridiculously good though.

I love that salad....or used to....

- Well at Olive Garden their Chicken Cesaer Salad is worth 920 calories (dressing included) and I am pretty sure that is not the only thing one would order when going there... think = bread sticks & soup!

Yeah, I went to Olive garden with my sister and tried to order the healthiest thing.. A salad with grilled chicken... too bad the dressing included made it nearly 1000 calories. I was so upset after I ate it, and I ate the whole thing.

lol...i'm with skier...I don't let that stop me :)  Life's too short not to enjoy!

i've never had it, but doesn't taco bell have a taco salad that's over 1000 calories?

i just went to olive garden as well..ended up eating the dinner salad, no dressing..with a little parm cheese and tabasco.  i dont think that could have been all that bad..well, i also had a bite of a breadstick and a few spoonfuls of the minestrone soup.. i think i did okay..but its hard to resist the cheesy pastas there.

ive mentioned before i also loove cheesecake factory.  and i know its the opposite of this topic (although im sure most of their regular salads will easily top 1000 cals), but their weight management salads are very close to what they advertise them to be.  there was an article about restaurants underestimating the cals and fat in their weight management salads, but cheesecake did very well and even came in slightly under in a few salads.  but my fave is ceasar salad, no dressing with tabasco, pico de gallo and jalapenos.  i guess, when you break it down like that, its just lettuce, parm and condiments.  its huge though..and i must also add, i indulge in their whole wheat bread...yikes.

No joke, salads are wayyy misleading. I work at Chili's during the school year and I was surprised to find out that a lot of the salads are way worse than our hamburgers, fajitas, etc. But nothing can be as bad as the Awesome Blossom, which has around 3,000 delicious calories per onion.

I don't eat at work much anymore. :)

even before i was trying to eat healthy i would frequently ordered salads because I really enjoy the taste. i think the problem with the quiznos salad is mainly in the dressing. besides that its just chopped veggies and maybe some cheese too i forget. it also comes with the buttered flatbread that might not even be included in the 1100 cals. haha i would never order it now though, its not worth it.

Yeah I've always loved salads which has been a problem since I'm trying to gain weight (hence the reason why I want people to tell me salads with 1,000+ calories). I just always found it ironic how most dieters eat it at restaurants not realizing that it can be filled with calories because there is no "standard" sized salad and the contents that can be put in it have endless possibilities.

haha well im recovering from an ED.... need to gain... i should take me out and order one!

Even smart, educated people often think that if it has "salad" in the name, it is good for you and a smart choice, calorie-wise. Generally a ceasar salad has more calories than a cheeseburger, and it's not nearly as filling. Brutal.

There is a salad dressing that I  LOVE, it's called Little Creek organic salad dressing and it;s so delicious. When I started actually reading labels, I realized it has 70 calories per tablespoon! And I used to use at least 4 tablespoons on a big salad, plus another times as much or more on my rice (it's sooo good on red rice). So for a lovely homemade meal that inclded a healthy whole grain rice and a nutritious salad, I would end up taking in like 600 EXTRA calories! For a meal I thought was so healthy!! Label-reading and educating ourselves about ingredients, both at home and at restaurants, is SO important!

Yeah people aren't being educated enough in the nutrition department. And who would want them to be? Think about how much money the dieting businesses are making with people not fully aware of what proper nutrition really is. And restaurants/stores know that if they can add in the words "light", "salad", or "fat-free" into the names of their products they can get you to buy it.
