I love atlantic salmon!!!
Its so flavourful by itself, all i do is salt the fish and then sprinkle some dill and garlic salt onto it, pop it into the oven and voila!
It really is that simple.
i agree salmon has such natural yummy flavour you really shouldnt do too much to it. Lemon juice, salt and pepper, some herbs like dill, parsley.
If you want something a little different you can dust the fillet in some cajun spice mix, and serve with a cool salad.
Make sure you don;t overcook the fillet too - salmon should be served medium rare for best eating.
yum, im hungry now...
My recipe
- 1 salmon steak or fillet
- lemon juice
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
Preheat the oven to Gas 6, 200C. Season the salmon with lemon juice, salt and pepper. Take an oven-proof skillet with a metal handle and heat on the hob. Add a little olive oil. Place the fillet in the pan and allow to cook for about 1 minute. Transfer the entire skillet to the oven and bake for 6 minutes (no longer). Serve immediately.
I like to drizzle a bit of Asian Sesame marinade and broil.
I like to buy wild vs. farm raised salmon. Farm raised are injected to get the red coloring
I usually melt a TB of butter or whatever your preference is, add some minced garlic and a touch of garlic powder to the butter and then spread it over the salmon filets. I then squeeze fresh lemon over it and add fresh cracked pepper. I broil it about 8-10 mins (or in the summer time I grill it). I always squeeze more lemon on my piece before I eat it! One of my favorite meals! I usually steam some asparagus or have a small potato on the side.
First of all, it's really, really, really important that you get wild salmon. It's more expensive, but it's healthier and better for the environment. Here is a website that will explain why.
That said, I love salmon. I like to make a spice rub of salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, and oregano, and then grill or broil it. I then serve the salmon with some salsa and a big salad. Salmon's also great with teriyaki sauce or other Asian-style sauces, which are pretty easy to make (though I don't have a recipe right off hand).
