salmon spine?
i'm on a soft-diet for a little bit, so i can't chew. i found this can of no salt-added salmon and decided to eat that, but when i opened the can.. the spine was in the can too.
is it supposed to be there? am i supposed to eat it? i don't really want to eat another creature's spine :|
Haha..I never thought of it in that way, but now that you said "another creatures spine" it really sounds disgusting!
The answer is, yes, you can eat the bones of the canned salmon. It's really based on individual preference. They are actually quite soft and easy to chew in general. But, if you are on a soft diet for medical reasons related to your GI system (you didn't mention why) then you might want to just pick the bones out.
eewwwwwwwwwww...............
Canned salmon bones are pretty soft and chalky. They're actually a really good source of calcium.... .

i had jaw surgery 2 weeks ago, and am not allowed to chew for another month.
ahh - I remember the torture of being forced to de-bone the canned salmon as a child - Now I'll always pay the extra $ for the boneless/skinless.
As all above said, you can eat it, but I can't imainge wanting to.
Eat the bones! They are soft from being canned and are rich in calcium and vitamin D, so your own bones benefit. The ribs are in there too, but they're completely disolved.
mmm - that's my favourite part! don't worry - you don't really have to chew. the bits are so soft, you can just squash 'em with your tongue or swallow them whole.

If you are making salmon salad for a sandwich filling or just to eat, just mash them with a fork, you wont even know they are in there and they are very high in calcium so quite good for you too.
Salmon Bones have tons of calcium and vitamin D! They are really good for you and actually quite tasty! Don't think of it as eating the SPINE OF SOMETHING! Just think of it as good food! ha ha!
