Smile Yum. I found a winner. It taste great, it's a good size slice and has 5 grams of fiber per slice.

I bought mine at Vons (Safeway).

We love this bread at our house!  Even our daughters (3 & 7) love this bread, though the 3 year old doesn't care for the crust most of the time.

Just be aware that "multigrain" is not the same thing as "whole Grain".  Multigrain is just a combination of several grains and sometimes none of them are whole grains.  They may be just a processed as plain white bread.

Whole grains are the 1st ingredient listed, so I think it should be okay - I don't remember exactly which whole grains they used.

I've been eating Sara Lee bread for months now, though I usually get the white bread.  Oh, and I usually get mine at Walmart, where it's a bit cheaper.  Otherwise, I get it at Vons, too.  I've been really pleased with it.  And, boy, you can't beat 45 calories.

Here's what about.com has to say about it :)

i don't eat multigrain bread. its 100% whole wheat bread for me.

tip: only eat breads that have the first ingredient listed as "WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR"

I also buy this bread, and the whole wheat one as well.  They are both good and the first ingredient is WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR!!  BUT...if you do the math, the calorie content is actually 55 cals per slice.  They only count the cals on the net carbs, they don't count the calories for the fiber.  But sill 55 calories per slice!!! YUM and it is healthy, low in sugar, high in fiber & protein...Now if they only carried it in Canada...I have to stock up on it when I go to the States & keep it in my freezer....good thing it freezes well!

I like the taste of this bread, but its so thin and holey. I don't feel like I get very much. I much prefer Natures Own Light Honey wheat which is 40 cals and its a little denser.

Correct me if I'm wrong but fiber doesn't have calories. Only protein, fat, carbs & alcohol contribute to the calorie count. Or was I misinformed?

Sorry dnsmills...in some foods they do, and in some foods they don't.  I don't know why it is like that....but I also know that it varies from one country to the next.  In Canada, they DO count the fiber as cals...if you look at the calories in Kashi, the American is a lot lower in calories than ours....which sucked the first time we finally could buy it here.  I had been buying it State side, and going by the cals on that box.  Then when I could buy it here, the calories were much higher.  I finally found out why, and that was because Canadian food laws state that they count ALL carbs as calories...not just the net carbs....and in the US, they count insoluble fiber as 0 cals and soluble fiber as 4 cals per gram....we have to make everything soooo confusing up here!!! LOL

I found this old post:http://caloriecount.about.com/fiber-calories- count-ft59391

Hope it helpsSmile

Natures Own Light Honey wheat

:( Bummer they don't sell it in Southern California.

I like it because of the calorie content. It's not the best bread in the world but it fits in my plans.

I agree, the-siege.  There are other breads I'd rather be eating, but I'm more concerned with the calories.
