I'm interested in basing a meal around raw salmon, but I'm not sure what to serve with it. Any ideas? Certainly some sort of salad... maybe potatoes... but I've never had sashimi except as an appetizer and I'm a bit clueless.

Yum! what time is dinner? Tongue outdepends on whether you want a japanese inspired meal or maybe something different - i always love raw or smoked salmon with a little lemon juice, a tad of chopped raw onion, and some capers (if you like a salty flavor) and a smear of fat free cream cheese with a wheat english muffin, big raw veggie salad. If Japanese cravings, some edemame, a seaweed salad, maybe a little brown/jasmine rice and steamed bok choy. Dee lish!

You could look up recipes for a salmon ceviche... or make salmon blinis. I also think the salad could be a good idea. Though quite frankly, although I love sashimi I dislike salmon either cooked or raw. Good luck!

Make sushi/nigiri with it and add edamame, seaweed salad, miso soup, or a combination of all of those with a side of pickled ginger.

Smoked salmon on top of a pizza!  It's really good, especially if you put other seafood goodies on it as well.

Mmmm I LOVE raw salmon! I'm Japanese so sushi has always been a favorite :)

You could definitely make a japanese themed dinner, with miso soup, cucumber salad with rice vinegar, seaweed salad, brown rice...maybe make some sushi rolls with some of the salmon! Perhaps buy some mochi for dessert and sake also :)

This is probably a Russian in me, but I like it with baked potato... I know weird combo, but hey it tastes good. :) Of course Miso soup is also a nice side.

When going to sushi places I order sashimi as the main dish, and then maybe a roll (if anyone wants to split it) as a side.

Broiled Green Beans! Mmmmm!!!! I have been eating green beans this way for the past 3 days and I cannot get ENOUGH!! Just make sure to keep your eyes on them otherwise they will burn! Rub em' down with olive oil, salt, pepper & maybe a little garlic... & pop em in the broiler!

You can also buy some dried seaweed - soak it in water & season it with soy sauce or sesame seeds...

Steam cabbage is another option for sure! Shred & Steam = delicious!

Oh and of course: nori sheets!

FWIW, if you are making this yourself, do make sure your salmon is sushi grade, meaning it has been previously frozen for at least 48 hours.  Raw salmon can contain some nasty parasites; freezing it makes sure they are killed and won't cause you unpleasant health problems.

Happy eating!

What about a salmon carpaccio?
