This was passed on to me.  Thought some people might be interested.  Please go to http://julywar.epetition.net and sign the Save the Lebanese Civilians Petition and tell your friends.   Lebanese civilians have been under the constant attack of the state of Israel for several days. The State of Israel, in disregard to international law and the Geneva Convention, is launching a maritime and air siege targeting the entire population of the country. Innocent civilians are being collectively punished in Lebanon by the state of Israel in deliberate acts of terrorism as described in Article 33 of the Geneva Convention.

EDIT:  I'm not going to remove the link, but I will let everyone know that some people think that it may not be a secure site, and those who sign, do so at their own risk.

How is this different from innocent Israelis being collectively punished by the forces of Hamas, Hezzbolah and a number of other groups in deliberate acts of terrorism as described in Article 33 of the Geneva Convention?

Just... curious.
Actually, I understood that Hezzbolah was placing their strong holds in among innocent civilians so the truth would be that they are actually the ones putting civilians in harms way.
Where is the "Save the Israeli Civilians from Homicide Bombers and Government-financed terrorist" list?  That's the only one I'll sign up for.

Innocent civilians of Israel have been collectively attacked, terrorized and killed for years with little recourse.

There's a difference between blowing oneself up on a bus or in a nightclub, and targetted strikes at infrastructure and military posts.
I absolutly agree with you, no innocent civilians should be punnished,
I just got this in an e-mail and thought some people might be
interested in sigining it, I am not aware of any other petitions at the
time, but no one that is innocent should suffer.  Terrorism is
awful no matter who is controlling it.
Yeah, I agree. This whole thing stinks, and is very very complicated :p
stonetable--- while that is very true the entire situation that's going on right now is a bit ridiculous on Israel's part.
only a little off-topic, but internet petitions and electronic signatures aren't really useful.... the validation process for the signatures is very lacking, which generally invalidates the petition. so no matter whether the cause is good or not, the 'net petition isn't going to forward it very much.
I've been to Lebanon twice and I was completely ignorant on the whole Mid East conflict before that. It's not hard to understand how things happened or why things escalate as quickly as they do in that region (Wiki has info incase you don't know the history of the area). It's very unfortunate that anyone has to die over things which could be talked out. On top of it all my Mother has a ticket to Israel for this January.  Ugh. It really sucks to see places that I've been to bombed to sh*t, too.
I don't think the current situation is ridiculous on Israel's part.  They've done everything to protect themselves short of open war, even to go so far as to build a wall to isolate themselves and keep the homicide bombers out.

They gave up Gaza.  They've participated in peace talks.  They've worked the system, but it takes two to tango.  Eventually, when you try to work within the system, discussing and negotiating with people who turn around to announce that you don't have a right to exist and should be destroyed, the only choice is to stand up for yourself.

It's like a bully in the playground.  In this case there are several bullies and Israel was the fat kid getting beat up.  Eventually, you get tired of it and stand up to the bully.
That's true, stone.. but it's more complicated than that, because for years and years, Israel HAS been the bully.

Dude, they took over these "Buffet Zones", ejected the former tenants and started building houses there.

Can you imagine how you'd feel if that happened?

I will agree, however, that Israel made a VERY Positive move towards peace by removing the citizens living there, forcefully, if necessary.
Unfortunately this entire region, although the oldest existing civilization, reacts on emotions rather then logic. Hence continious killing and murdering of innocent victims on both sides. The true terrorists are Hezzbollah, the victims Lebonese and Israeli citizens. The ability to settle disputes through mediation and or discussion is very difficult because both Israelis and Palastinians are passionate and reacting emotionally to a dispute that began thousands of years ago.

This on going battle will only be settled on the day of judgement.
hkellic - Very true.  Israel hasn't always been on the right side of things, but they have been making efforts in the recent past.
Yes... recently. But you can't place all the blame on everyone else. Israel is as much to blame as the rest.

I honestly don't see this stuff clearing up anytime soon... and it really sucks because this is a gorgeous area of the world that people can't really visit without being afraid they'll get blown to pieces.
There's one thing that bothers me about all of this.. where in hell is the U.N. and what are THEY doing? I believe the one power capable of putting alot of this to an end is the U.N., and they've been AWFULLY quiet...
hahaha well... could it partly be because the US has the most control inside the UN?

I don't see them doing much for Darfur, Sudan either.
The US is only a small portion that makes up the UN. Actually the UN in itself is laughable. They create all these resolutions and never back them up.
The US has nothing to profit in this war other then to remain an ali to Israel. Throw in oil profits and you will see the US jump. Yeah, The US has war on terror, but we pick and choose which terrorist we eliminate based on profitablility.

Ok, I'm not big into politics, but I've really had it with the anti-Israel crowd.
Here we go, One More Time...
Hizbulla is a TERRORIST GROUP.Terrorists love to cause problems and have the American Media making anything American like, look like we or Israel look like the bad guys and
I'm sick of it.
Hizbulla is attacking Israel and Israel is DEFENDING itself!

"Well, what about the Lebonese Children...Waaaa!"

Ok, What about the Israely Children who got hit first??!!!
Grow up People!!

Now...Can we talk about weight loss?
I think all of the citizens should be saved... the goverments... that's another story...

m3lody- that's so sad, but so true :\

take care.
The NRA in Ireland is technically a terrorist group too, gunfreak, but nothing's being done about that. The American government picks and choose what terrorist organizations it wants to go after based on what good things we get out of it.... which in the end just causes our oil prices to jump so we can't afford to drive or take flights anywhere. And how can you tell someone to "grow up" because they have differing politic opinions than you? If I went around doing that to every conservative person I knew... chances are I'd end up with no friends.
