what do you save that you should really throw out?

Quote  |  Reply
So I'm cleaning my room and going through all this stuff I have. I realized that I'm always saving boxes. I don't know what I plan on using them for, but especially if they're small ones, I'll save them (I used to even take some from the cardboard recycling at my old job :P).

Why dont you put all the boxes in bigger boxes... then you still have the boxes if you need them - some go to good use - and theres less clutter Wink lol!
Magazines and phonebooks!

I want to throw them away (or even recycle) but they make the trash bag so heavy! And it seems like I get a new phonebook every month....it's sad, I just look up what I need on the internet ;p
Find out where you can recycle the mags and phone book or just find a dumpster. Usually apartment complexes have bins for mags and newspapers. If you don't live in a complex visit one!
Oooooo twiggy's idea is a GOOD one!

that's what I do with my purses.  I put purses in other purses  :)
I'm guilty of box saving =(

I save my perfume boxes "incase I have to travel" and my soap boxes as well.

Sometimes I save my shopping bags from department stores because they're pretty >>;

lol yeah I'll save some bags that are thicker/nicer than normal grocery bags for example, usually they're clothing stores.

I have a little box that my transformer came in (to change voltage of electronics), when I found it I thought 'I could just use this for a gift', not really a nice box for that lol.

i used to have a thing about shoe boxes.  i'm over it.

I live in a perpetual state of war with my husband and his computer parts. We have, and I am not kidding, 6 (working) computers in our (600 sq ft) home. We also have 3 boxes of computer cords; 4 spare keyboards; 3 empty cases; God knows how many mice; 3 more BIG boxes of parts in storage; boxes and boxes of spare hard drives/motherboards/etc; 3 spare monitors and all kinds of weird peripherals like joysticks and other such paraphernalia.

I can not convince him to throw them away. I secretly pilfer them out of the house over extended periods of time, but they seem to be breeding, as no matter how much I throw away there always seems to be the same amount of crap left to clutter up our house. If y'all  can figure out ways to convince him to oust it all, I'm open to suggestions.

My own personal "horde-ing" is shoes. I can't bring myself to throw them out, even when they are hideously unattractive and/or falling to bits.

I keep paper.  Even if it's scribbled on notebook paper, if one side of it is empty, I keep it.  Alex hates it, we have five boxes in the attic full of paper, but I can't help throwing it away until it's been completely used.

I used to not get things like nice coloured pencils or markers or paper to draw on, so whenever I do get it, I cherish it until I can't possibly any longer.  This includes perfectly good paper.

I also have a few shoe boxes full of crayon nubs.  Like I said, I cherish these little things and as long as I can hold them (even if it's with tweezers), I'm going to keep using them.

boxes...i often mail photographs all over the place, so i always keep the boxes that i could use...luckily, they fit in my closet pretty well.

i'm also really bad about dealing with junkmail.  i tend to just have piles of mail all over the place...and then every few months i deal with it.

Hey, cellulite, if you have all those nubs I know something you can do with them. Put them in muffin cups and cook them in the oven till they melt. Then take them out and let them cool and you have brand new multicolor crayon disk... things. My kids love them!

Here's a great craft idea for crayon nubs.

Get a heavy weight T-shirt or sweat shirt. Lay the shirt on your ironing board (no board?, put several thick towels on your table). Put newspaper between front and back.

Sprinkle the nubs over the shirt, or lay them in a pattern. Put a thin layer of newspaper, or several paper towels over the top and iron on a high heat setting, melting the crayon into the shirt.

Wash in cool/cold water and don't put the shirt in the dryer.

Assignments, I have some from like...middle school (I'm in graduate school now, you do the math :P). I'm pretty sure at the time I thought I'd probably need the knowledge later.

Shopping bags. Fool your friends into thinking you got them something from a nice store for 2 seconds :P.

Also guilty of keeping old magazines. I used to reason that I needed references/inspiration for artwork. I have never, ever used a magazine for inspiration.

that's funny, sauvignon.  i had a bonfire last fall and a friend of mine who's also in grad school brought notes dating back to her first year in undergrad.
Thanks for the crayon suggestions, but I can't see hurting an innocent little crayon.  I'll continue to use the little nubs until they're completely gone. <3
The item I should throw out is a pair of shorts (with an elastic band of course) from the 5th grade. I wear them as PJs every now & then. They look horrible, holes & all, but I just can't bring myself to toss them out. I love them. :)

The one thing that I keep that should be thrown away is Cosmo magazines I think I have all the issues since September 04.  It's kind of sad when you have all the issues that put together the mans body on the rim of the magazine (I didn't realize it till I put them in order haha).

I like the idea of put the box in the larger box, that is something I would do.

I should totally burn mine in effigy, preferably at a giant bonfire too. I also have old textbooks I should get rid of - but my later ones are kind of...expensive to burn, haha.

Well....I have a massive care bear collection....over 400...so I guess that counts as hording....lol...I'll buy them even if they're ones I already have... :)
