"saving" calories for nighttime?
I am currently stuck in a vicious cycle. I try to "control" my calories throughout the day, but late at night I get so hungry that I eat about 1,000+ cals in one sitting!
HELP!
I know the simple solution is to spread them out evenly, but I can't seem to break the pattern. Advice?
Make yourself a simple menu plan..... If you need, say, 2500 cals a day (because you're on the weight-gain board and that's a good minimum target) you could decide that's going to be a 500 cal breakfast, 600 cal lunch, 700 cal supper and 700 cals worth of snacks in between.
Then use the CC food log to work out what a 500 cal breakfast will look like.... For example, two slices of toast (140), two poached eggs (140), a glass of orange juice (120), a yoghurt (100). Do the same thing for the other meals.
If you map it out and you have a plan you're more likely to stick to it than if you just set out as normal making it up as you go along.
I was doing this for awhile, and I realized I need to stop restricting during the day.
I do this too! Especially if I know i'm going to be having a drink or two in the evening I will cut down a LOT of calories in the day, and eat most of my daily intake in the evening. Is this bad for me? I'm worried that because I eat most of it in the evening, and I dont work it off afterwards, that all of my calorie counting and healthy eating is being wasted... HELP!
i struggle with this to gi jane gave some grt advice, try to start eating more during the day , it will be hard but you can do it and the more you do it the easier it will become h x
On a good day (There are of course some not so good days but I'm learning) I eat 1650 cals. 300 Breakfast, 400 Lunch, 600 Dinner, 300 Snack.
Some days if I have a huge salad for lunch that's only 300, I will have fruit and yogourt at 3 PM for another 100...
On a super great day it's like 200 Breakfast, 100 snack, 400 lunch, 200 Snack, 550 Dinner, 200 Snack
I find the days where I eat the smallest meals more often I eat better at night :D
I used to savour calories until the evening also; its as if there was a fear of using up to many calories during the day and not having the security of knowing I had enough left for the night. I used to end up with a controlled feast for dinner, as late as 10pm with about 4 separate bowls of selected foods tallying up to about 900 calories with a further 300calories used up in the early evening and then a remaining 400ish on breakfast and an afternoon lunch. I have found that since I have recovered I still have tendencies to eat more in the evening, yet it has evened out. The initial craving for food after anorexia, minimising with recovery, maybe even months after weight restoration, but it will happen and urges begin to diminish.
Some people balance a large amount of calories from the morning and eat less as the day goes on just like others do the opposite. I think you just need to make sure, rather than doing this you should plan over time to add more to the daytime. Slowly but surely your anxiety will settle.
Can you identify some of the reasons you have behind doing this? Till you get to better balance can you sit down each night and pre plan your meals and snacks and commit? In past times trying to recover I did this but this time I am really trying to be balanced through the day so that my body can get tuned into hunger/fullness and balance out. At first this was a hard transition and it caused a lot of anxiety, fear, guilt. Now though most days it just seems like part of my routine. The days that those feelings creep on "saving" I remind myself one needs adequate fuel during the day when most active for their brain and body to function. It also helps set the base for when one gets to a healthy weight so that they are in a healthy pattern. In the short run this made me more focused on food/weight but now since the anxiety around it is less I think it actually has made the food/weight thoughts lessen cause I am more fueld through. It is good you see this as a bad cycle so now you can change it
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
