saving on calories through out the week for a splurge day?

Quote  |  Reply

I don't try to make a habit of this but i also have no real knowledge on if this is bad or not.

This week an old friend and i are going to go get some infamously delicious burgers and a beer to catch up. These burgers are worth the splurge and since i rarely eat red meat i don't feel guilty about it.

I figured if I either cut calroies back a little more or work out a little harder each day this week and try to budget most of my caloric intake on the day we go out for the burger for the burger itself then it'll probably all even out for the week on a whole.

I know it's not good to eat below your reccomneded caloirc intake but can it really be that negative for a few days?

anybody have any insight? like i said i don't do this on a regular weekley basis or try to make a habit of it. i also plan on meeting my weekely calorie consumption just in a kind of haphazard way.

I watch the Biggest Loser religiously and I remember Bob doing a little 'info-moment' where he explained that they have the contestants eat their normal restricted calorie diets (1800 I think) throughout the week and give them one splurge day.  He said it boosts the metabolism through the next week.  I would go for the burgers, although I dont eat red meat, but not cut your caloric intake the other days.  Just don't go crazy and eat 10 and you should be fine.

Hi

I have good news. Its actually healthy to have one week every 2 months to shock your metaolism into working again. I do it and it rele works!

So enjoy!

As long as you arn't going under 1200 calories or larger than 1000 calorie deficet I don't see why you can't save up a few calories by just dropping about 100 a day....

I think it's a good idea to change up the number of calories you are consuming regularly just to keep your body awake. If you are always eating the same thing -- same amount of energy -- your body may get stuck in a rut. Energy levels of flat and weight hits a plateau. So as long as you aren't associating feelings of guilt with an indulgent burger or beer, go for it. It's only when you start thinking that you should feel bad for consuming more that you run into problems. Deprivation only leads to failed diets, binging and low self esteem, in my opinion.

It's a good idea to mix it up every so often, as long as your splurge days aren't completely egregious - there's no need to go over 2,000 - 2,500 on a heavy day. The idea of eating upwards of that is almost sickening - unless you are a super athlete. And of course, the day after your splurge, you can get by with eating very little. One day of very light eating following a heavy feast won't jeopardize your metabolism or wellbeing and will lessen the effects of the "bad" day.
