Savory low-calorie snacks?
I see a LOT of great ideas for low-calorie sweets on here, but what about savory snacks? Hmm something salty perhaps. Any ideas? How about anything in the 100-calorie or less range?
I know there are some 100 cal packs of chips.
I just had some triscuits - original (120 cals) with a 50 cal wedge of cheese. If it's salt you're craving, try salting an apple... yum... but be careful not to overdo it on the sodium.

If you're loking for salty, why not make some potato chips? Grab a potato, slice into very thin slices, salt and season with your favorite spices, and bake. I haven't tried this yet, but I think I will tonight! I cup of potato is only 58 calories, and I think that would make a good amount of chips. I also wanted to try brushing just a bit of barbeque sauce onto the slices before baking to get BBQ chips.
I make bean dip with black beans and olives (or white beans, garlic, and roasted red peppers) to munch on with carrot sticks or celery. Instead of oil, I just thin it with water and a little lemon juice. It's very savory and the fiber in the beans makes it pretty filling.
Pretzel sticks are something like 180 cals for 65 of them...
an ounce of jerky is about 100 calories--high in sodium, but high in protien too.
This might sound wierd but it tastes great for when you are in a salty/low cal snack mood...I take 1/4 cup of fat free cottage cheese and mix in diced cucumber, tomatos, and hearts of palm. I then sprinkle the top with season salt, ground pepper, and a dash of mustard. If Im really hungry, I'll eat it over a lightly salted rice cake..
I just had a slice of light rye bread (50 cals) with a wedge of laughing cow on top (35 cals or so). Yummy, creamy and salty.
Laughing cow is amazing. :-) I bought it for the first time about a month or so ago, (thanks to this website!) and it makes such a yummy snack! I usually smear it on apple slices and its great. Any more ideas?
I just stumbled onto 100calorie pack of cheetos last night... They are really good and there are actually quite a bit of them in the little package.
I'll have a laughing cow wedge and 1 serving of all bran garlic and herb crackers. Wedge- 35 calories, Crackers (18)- 120 calories. I know it isn't under 100, but if you don't have the cheese, the crackers are 120. And, they have, I think, 5% or more of your daily fiber needs :) bonus!
you can buy healthy liveing pretzel packs in tescos and there only 92 cals a pack with loads of different flavours to choose
These are high protein, high fiber, very tasty. If you limit the portion, then the calories aren't too bad either.
Roasted Chickpeas

I take pita bread, slice it in half, sprinkle it with Mrs. Dash, and bake them to make pita chips. Usually, there are enough chips that I only eat half and save the other half for later. I also add 2 tablespoons of salsa if I want it. With the salsa, that only adds up to around 90 cals!
I like a chocolate chip rice cake (60 cals) and 1 teaspoon of peanut butter on top (35 cals).... I like to have this with a glass of vanilla soy milk (80 cals for 8-oz).
Green olives
Wasabi Peas are another great snack.
Take a Wasa crispbread (45 cal.), top it with a couple tbsp (or as much as you want) of lowfat or fat free cottage cheese mixed with garlic salt, pepper, & oregano, slice some cherry tomatoes and place slices on top of the cottage cheese. ENJOY! This is one of my favorite snacks. Very satisfying for "savory junkies", like myself. Another variation is spreading hummus on top of the crispbread and topping with tomatoes, salt & pepper. Yummy.
i shake some creole seasoning into a bag of microwave popcorn. yummm
Someone has got to have already said this I am sure but..
try 100 calorie Pop-secret Kettle corn popcorn.
IT'S THE BEST!
