Hello everyone. I hope that all are well and doing great. I have a digital scale and it is so very unpredictable. I got on it this morning and it read 217, 220, 214, 215, 214, 216... I know my weight fluctuates, but no way does it change that quickly. Does anyone have any advice on a good scale, that doesnt cost a fortune?
Thanks,
Suzanne
Hi Suzanne,
I bought a $5.00 scale at Walmart. I keep a 5lb weight beside of it. On my weekly weigh ins I put the weight on the scale twice and make sure it reads 5lbs. both times. Then I hop on.
It's worked for me over the years. When I go to the doctor there's about a 5-8lb difference in my readings and theirs. The doctor always tells me it's their scale and it weighs everyone more and partly it's because I'm fully dressed too.

Dang, that's some pretty sound advice. Thanks, Kristen. I shall keep a 5lb weight by my scale!
I have a digital scale too and I'm frustrated. i weigh myself first thing in the am and it is almost a pound less an hour later, even after eating breakfast. I fluctuate up to 4 pounds a day.
You know I have the same issue. When it got really bad I got new batteries for my digital one and it lessened some. Also if its old, the springs or whatever may be wearing out. And then there is always daily fluctuations. Thats why it is better to always weigh at the same time every day (if you weigh every day at all, once a week is probably good enough). Then just pay attention to the general trend rather than each individual score.

Yeah, I've even heard that monthly weighing instead of weekly weighing can be better for you psychologically. The only issue that I have with that is that if I'm slipping and don't realize it I want to catch it while it's still under control. I went to bed bath and beyond for my scale. I think it was like $50 but it keeps you from fooling yourself because it gives you the body fat percentage and water percentage. That way , even if you lose punds, you can tell if its water, or actual fat.
Good Luck!

One tip I've heard about the digital scales is that the presence of electrical nearby (ie, basement lights running through the floor under your bathroom), can mess up the scale. Finding a different spot and making sure the batteries are fully charged can help make them more reliable.
mine usually takes three attempts and the second two are normally the same so i go with those :-)
make sure you're standing in exactly the same place on the scales each time.. preferably not on carpet or rug..
I think weighing yourself once a month is the best way to go about it.... then you don't get discouraged! Then you can buy yourself a little something when you have done good each month, like some make up or a purse :)
I don't know what's up with that. But I'd suggest weighing once weekly. Also, make sure your scale isn't on the carpet. Good luck!

Did you hop on and off that many times at once? I contacted the scale company about that and they said that they weren't designed to have you hoping on and off like that. Tap it with you toe, let it zero out and then step on - that reading should be accurate. They said it should rest like 15 min between weighings. I don't get it, but that's what I do and it seems pretty accurate.
One of my kids set it to kg the other day - what a shocker that was!!
I had the same problem. I tried Taylor, Weight watchers scales, sears, Panasonic and other brands.
The only one that worked and was repeatable was the healthometer 349klx.
It's not cheap $160-180 us.
Worked for me.
Hope this helps
