My scale is conspiring against me
So I've been on this site since May 16th, diligently ensuring I have a deficit in calrories of 200 - 800 per day with a couple days (3) with a zero deficit and I've lost one measly pound the first week and then nothing
(the 800 calorie deficits are from exercising a lot, and I'm still consuming 1800 calories on those days with a target of about 1500 on average and I know my calorie counting is accurate ... unless someone's slipping an extra thousand calories into my apple or snap peas - lol. )
I've been tracking my deficits and according to my math I've had a deficit of well over a pound this week but the scale won't budge!! I've got one of those scales that also tell you your fat %, and today that was down, but not the actual poundage - AGHH! I know it's that TOM, and I'm building muscle with all my exercise, and keep going, blah, blah, blah - but geesh! I just had to vent today!!
On a positive note though, I started walking a lot last year (marathon distances traing for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer) and have been a lot more active and even though I'm the exact same weight as I was a year ago, I pulled out my hiking pants yesterday that were too tight to wear a year ago and they fit now!! A little snug still, but they fit!!!
Hi - I know how you feel :(.
Just a few thoughts. Could it be that your near your period and retaining water? For me a few days before my period, during and than a few days after I either gain a pound or stay even. I've found that if I just stick with it and try to stay off the scale, I'm rewarded with a big loss when it's over. This month after the dreaded 10 days I lost 3.5 lbs! Also you may be eating more than you think. For me if I don't measure everything I tend to over estimate and eat more that I should.
Good luck and stick with it :)
Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. I started off May at 161, shot up to 162 even though I was eating better and exercising more, then in the last 10 days I've been exercising 1 hour or MORE every day and I'm a half-pound heavier today than I was May 1st. My deficit average for the whole month is 500 calories a day. How discouraging, eh?
Oh man, I know how you feel. Sucks.
I have a suggestion for you and ladyfirelyght. Forget what the scale is telling you and get out the measuring tape. If you measured yourself before you started dieting and exercising, check yourself again. You might find that you have gone down in inches rather than weight, as we all know muscles weighs more than fat. Watching inch loss is just as awsome as seeing the scale go down.
