I know, I know.. everyone's sick of hearing about it!
But I just need either some cold hard truth or reassurance.
The week before Halloween I ate an average of 1,565/day. Now on Halloween night I ate wellll over maintenence but not enough to really gain anything.
According to my GWF, my eating of the past 5 days (Halloween included) should have me at a loss of 1/2 pound for this morning. So why did the scale go UP a 1/2 pound instead? When I weighed the morning after the Halloween candyfest I was the same as the day before, which was odd because I was expecting like a 2 lb gainage from food weight. But the scale increased this morning instead.
So my question is, is it common for the water/food weight to be delayed? Or could I have gained a 1/2 pound in one night going from 1,565 to double that? The GWF said I burned 2,300 on Halloween so I didn't even eat enough to gain a 1/2 pound.
I need a reality check please? ![]()
Half a pound?...... That's a bowel movement, not a gain.
Do yourself a massive favour and stay off the scales. Some people can hop on and off them all day, every day and not be bothered if they're up, down or STS. If you're fretting over a silly 1/2lb then you're not one of those people and you should limit yourself to weighing once or twice a week.
Reality check- a HALF POUND is nothing, it's a big glass of water!!
Stop stressing. I ate over my allowance on Saturday too- I was down a lb yesterday morning but up 2lbs this morning. I don't care though because I know it'll go away in a few days! I know it's retention- not FAT so am not going to add to my grey hairs worrying!![]()

PMSL!! You beat me to it Jane! I was more 'polite' for once! ![]()
The rational part of me does wanna agree that it's poop or water. That's the only part keeping me from being like, "OMGGG!" lol But then the other part of me doesn't get why the scale didn't increase the day after when it should have. That just doesn't make sense.
And then I've read some things online how weight gain can be delayed because it takes time for the calories to be digested and stored. Someone said how they overate for a few days and the scale didn't change so they thought they were homefree... then BAM! It catches up to them.
P.S. - Do you think a 1/2 pound is still "silly" when you know it can add up to 26+ lbs. a year? ![]()
Gaining 26lbs would be worth worrying about. But it's silly to worry about half a pound on any given day because it'll be here today, gone tomorrow, here again next week etc.. Bodies are circa 70% water and your day to day weight is more often determined by how well hydrated you are rather than how much fat you're holding onto.
Really, stories like yours are the most powerful argument there is against standing on scales all the time. Put them away for a week.... and if you can't do that then you may have bigger problems than a little excess weight.

For 1/2 pound to add up to 26 pounds a year, it would have to be consistent over the course of that year, not a random fluctuation from time to time.
I weigh every day, am consistently losing about 6 pounds a month, and see fluctuations from day to day of up to 2 pounds (up or down) depending on what I ate the day before, my hormones, how long I sleep, who knows -- maybe even the phase of the moon. I only look at the trend line, so it doesn't really bother me. If it bothers you this much, I agree with GI-Jane, stop weighing so often -- or grow a thicker hide.
If you gain a half a pound a week for 6 weeks then you can worry... but seriously, stop freaking out!! If you're going to freak out over fluctuations, weigh yourself once a week or once every two weeks or something.
I agree with the above comments. A half a pound is *nothing* to fret about, My weight fluctuates sometimes 2-3 pounds from one day to the next depending on many factors ie, sodium consuption, bowel movements, water intake, alot of exercise and resulting water retention....
I wonder why it's so hard to answer a question without sounding so sarcastic or mean. Yes, I know it's an annoying question, but if it annoys you that much then ignore the post and don't answer. ![]()

It's an annoying question that gets asked nearly every single day. We give the same answer every single time. So if you'd read the 200000 other posts asking the same question, you'd already know the answer. Did you really expect us to say something different?

Your comment on 2-3 lbs caught my eye. Glad I saw it because I was wondering about the same fluctuations in my weight, for some reason the 3 lbs seemed kind of big, but I guess not. Thanks for the info!

It sounds like you need reassurance but you're looking to get it from others. Take my word for it, no one 'out there' can fix your self image. Check out this CC blog, it might help you focus on the important things.

It was a great help for me...
instead of annoying everyone with the same bloody post. why dont you just go read the response to the twenty gazillion identical posts....
half a bloody pound. you should do yourself a favour. read about childhood cancer - read about all the sadness and heartache and pain they suffer. and then when you finish - read it again. and then consider your silly half pound

If is something that is upseting you, I do not see why you can't talk about it. If people do not want to answer, they can ignore your post, and go on with their lives, we all have th choice to answer or not.
One point I would like to mention is that items like this can cause stress and stress add weight. If you are in a maintenance program, then just keep doing it, I would go to 1400 calories for a week, and get ready for the next feast.

yes you are right we are sick of hearing about it. Post like this make me wanna stay away from this site forever.
Sorry, but I think some of the responses are a bit mean.
Perhaps newer users of the forum don't know how to search past posts and are just looking for some reassurance and answers, which, surely is the main purpose of an open forum?
If it was upsetting the original poster enough to ask a question about it then she has the same right as anybody, no matter how long they have been here or how much of a regular poster they are, to ask anything she wants.
If you read the title of a post and find it annoying then please, don't open it just to make sarcastic or cutting remarks, it's a waste of your time and theirs.
There is no point in useless and cruel comments that do not further the original post.
As for the comment about 'childhood cancer' etc, that is a bit out of line and totally irrelevant. You are of course suggesting that her problem is insignificant in relation to such a large issue, which of course it IS....but you could say the same about EVERY OTHER SINGLE POST of this ENTIRE FORUM. You may as well type the same remark on every other post! It's just a silly thing to say, no-one is comparing the seriousness of the two issues, it's not even up for debate. Weight loss issues of course are not usually a life or death situation and the original poster was not implying anything of the sort.
Bottom line..... why make the effort to type a sarcastic post, just ignore the post!

The OP said in her original post that she knows that this gets asked all the time - therefore, she most likely read the answers as well.
She also said that she needed reassurance OR some cold hard truth. People gave her a little of both.
