Scale Question!

Quote  |  Reply

So I've been using an analog scale, and it usually says I weigh 144, but yesterday I bought a new digital scale, and it said I weighed 142 all day. I doubt I've lost 2 lbs. in one day, so I'm wondering if analog scales or digital scales are more accurate? Obviously I'd love to believe that the digital one is more accurate!

I even weighed myself on the digital scale and it said 142, and then I weighed myself on my analog scale and it said 144.

Do most people use analog or digital?

i use a digital and i think most people do, just because it gives you a visual number that's wasy to track progress (or lack of!)

its natural for scales to differ, next time you are the gym or doctor's office weigh yourself and then you will get a better idea. there really isn't an answer as to which scale of yours is right

there's no perfect scale.  i like my digital, because it self-calibrates, but i only consider it accurate against itself, over time, rather than against other scales.

depending on how old your analog scale it there's a good chance that it needs to be calibrated. that being said it is possible to loose a couple of pounds "overnight" but generally it's water weight. do you always weigh your self daily?

Chances are that if you'd bought the same type of scale that would have shown a different weight as well.  There's a unwritten law of the universe that no two scales will ever show the same result!!.   So it's best to be consistent... same scales, same time of day, same day of the week... and don't weigh yourself too often.

I like digital only because that's what I saw to be the cheapest at the time that I bought it. Its starting to frustrate me though because it weighs me differently all the time.  It will always have me weighing about 3-4lbs more than the scales at WW (even though they still take off the two lbs for your clothes.

This past sunday @ WW I weighed in at 153.6. So I'm looking to be in the 140s before long. I'm very excited!

To be totally honest, I think digital scales are rubbish.

I've used at least two different digital scales for a long period of time and they suck. Here's why:

Digital scales rely on four corners to determine your weight. If you lean to one side or move a little whilst it calculates your weight, it flaws the result greatly.
Try it sometime! Get on and stand weird, collect your weight and do the same but standing normally.

I don't have an analog scale so it drives me nuts

I agree and haved solved the problem by putting my toes at the same place every time.  I really don't care what it is as long as it is going down. Looking forward to the day when I want it to stay the same!  Numbers really don't matter.  But I do think standing in the same place (find the one you like best! lol) is the answer.  Digital are much more consistent than analog for me.

Yeah I always weigh myself daily, it keeps me motivated. I know my weigh fluctuates a lot depending on water weight and the time of day and all so I don't really take the scale seriously until it's said the same number for 3-4 days.

At my gym, I weighed myself before and after my shower.  I have long hair, it holds a lot of water.  The scale didn't seem to understand that since it said I was a pound lighter.

Scales lie.
