Hi, so I'm super new to the site and I had a quick question..
On my home scale (I think we got it at Wal Mart.. it's digital, but still kind of cheap), it says that my weight is currently 278. However, I went to Planned Parenthood today to get my birth control shot and the scale there said that I was 260. That scale wasn't digital, it looked just like this:http://z.hubpages.com/u/86868_f520.jpg, and the little red lever was on the 0 when I stepped on and then went up to 260.
Which scale should I trust?
unless you plan to go to PP on a pretty regular basis, it only makes sense to go with the scale you have at home. it may not be perfectly accurate, but the number isn't as important as the progress you make, right?
I'd say tape measurement is better serving in most situations. Inches off or pounds off? I pick inches!
We can't really tell you which one you should trust, but I'd go with the home one as
1. as pgeorgian said, you are going to be using that one, right?
2. if you were really 260 but thought you were 278, no grief there when you find out.
3. lots of people step on to that PP scale on a daily basis for last what, decade? I'd say go with what you got at walmart. And next time you are there, use another brand scale and weigh yourself again.
Digital is much more reliable. As long as it tares out to 0 when you first turn it on, it's going to be more accurate. The scare you used at PP is a spring loaded scale and that can wear out pretty quickly, especially if it gets used on a daily basis.
usually sticking to one scale works best, I had the same incident happen to me, my home scale differs from what the PP said
but a pound is a pound, if your home scale is constant and a week later you've dropped 2 pounds then YAY your 2 pounds less you know?
You could calibrate your home scale with a known weight. I use a digital scale that has a strain guage that is more accurate than a spring scale. As mentioned by others, use the home scale as a basis and track your weight loss using it.
