Hi everyone
I have a problem. My mom lent me her bathroom scale so I could see how much I weigh, and keep track of my progress here on CC. The problem is, once it got up to 299 it read "Err", meaning I clearly weigh more than the scale can manage.
Do any of you have any ideas as to how I can keep track of my weight? Any brand of scales that I can look out for? I live in Canada so if it's a US store, it would have to have a "chain" up here too.
I'm afraid I'll need a scale meant for animals :( I knew I weighed a lot, but I didn't realize it was that much.
any suggestions are welcomed....

take a wander over to your doctor's office and ask to borrow the scale there, maybe? I don't see a reason for them to say no.
I borrowed my sister's digital scale this weekend and the same thing happened. I knew I was close, but didn't think I'd gained that much. So I stepped off, waited a few seconds and stepped on again. It worked that time. I think it needed to reset itself or something. Did you try more than once?
Yep, I tried it more than once. It's a dig. scale, and I think the max is 300lbs. I've only seen one scale that goes up to 330, but it's like 90 dollars. I want to weigh myself, but not for 90 dollars! I know I can go to my doctor and be weighed there, but it's really out of the way for me, and I doubt that my doctor would let me come once a week just to be weighed. Besides, I don't drive - so I'd have to take a bus all the way there, and back.... just not worth it.
Check walmart.com...I believe they have some for under $40-50 that go to 330...I think one goes to 350.
Hey there magic blue fairy... I looked at your profile.. your pictures made me laugh and laugh... I bet you are a very sensitive and intelligent person...
I'm going to be blunt with you - go to the drs office and step on the scale girl... I know its a lot of trouble, but you need to know.. not knowing is worse.. and if you are going to make this work you have to start by being honest with yourself...
Second, if you just do this a little, you will be so amazed at where you have come from.. you are cheating yourself out of a great victory if you dont set it up right from the start...
You are not the only person on this site that is over the magic 300 pound mark.. but.. find out how much you need to lose to start using your own scale..
We will be here to help you no matter what the number is ...
Love
Kai

Well, my manual (non-digital) scale goes up to 300 and I'm very close. I have often wondered if I did get over that mark, would it work, or would it just go beyond that part of the disc (i.e. register as if I weighed 10 pounds).
I don't know the answer to that question, since fortunately I'm not quite there, but I do know the scale I bought was pretty cheap. Certainly cheaper than the digital scales. I'm not sure how reliable they are, but it might be worth the expenditure just to keep an eye on your progress. I don't know... it's a thought. I wish I had a better idea for you. If you have a gym membership, you can weigh there, although I admit I hate doing that. But they do have the good scale.
And if your doctor is supportive of your weight loss plan, s/he might let you borrow the scale to help you. I don't know. I can see my own doctor doing that, but she's amazing.

Magicblue, we have one put out by Weight Watchers that goes to at least 330 (I think 350). My boyfriend was 324 (now 286! :) when we started, so my old scale which only went to 300 didn't work. You could maybe look for one like that. He found his in Lowe's, but I'll bet some other places like Wal-Mart, department stores, Target, etc. might have them too.
Good luck, and good for you for trying to get healthier!! It isn't easy, but you can do it!! Trust me, if my boyfriend and I can lose, YOU CAN! :)

hi again!
thank you everyone for your suggestions. i did find one scale that goes up to 385lbs, for an 80 dollar price tag. i'll have to make a trip to my doctor to verify that i am not 'bigger' than that. otherwise, the weight watchers scale looks like a possibility.

Hi I hope its alright for me to just jump in since I am new and this is my first post. I have a digital scale that goes to 400. The brand is Health O Meter. It was around 30.00. I bought it at Walmart. I just checked and they have some similar at the website.
gaidinsgirl - thank you for looking at Wal-Mart for me. :) I am going to check there myself. I don't know where you're posting from, but chances are, if you are looking at a US Wal-Mart, the Canadian WM won't have it. I will look though. Thank You!!
I know it can be frustrating trying to find a scale. I just bought one from Tanita (sp?) It goes up to 330 and does the BMI and calorie calculations as well. It was around $60 at bed bath and beyond. It is the first digital scale I have had in a long time. My other one use to say "OL" when I would step on it. I think it only went to 275. I have a wicked sense of humor so I would always say that the scale said "OH Lord, please get off of me!!" Even though I know the OL really meant "over load". It was just easier to take, you know?
Try going to your docs office once a month and the rest of the time take your measurements. That can also be a big movtivator too. But you do need to know where you are starting so you can celebrate the victory proper :)
Hang in there, we are all here for you!!!

I live in Canada- Home outfitters, believe it or not, has some nice ones and they're all between 20-50 dollars. The ones I saw go up to 400lbs.
