scale troubles...WHAT!

Quote  |  Reply

So I am extremely frustrated with the inconsistency I am getting with my weigh ins.  Something isn't right, and I don't understand.  Well, last week at the hospital I weighed 122 lbs and at the dietition I weighted 114 lbs.  Then this week at the dietition i weighted 115 and at the hospital i weighed 119.  I went right fromt the dietition to hte hospital too.  I just don't understand....

also, two weeks ago ishh I had a body compostiion scan done and it said that i had 7 percent body fat..which is extremely extremely low....

what scale do i believe because i have to reach 125 to play sports....ahy yah yah

Different scales will weigh differently.  They are just calibrated differently.

Just track how you're doing on ONE scale and be consistent.

Body composition analyses are extremely inaccurate.  Essential body fat in women is 8-12%, is it would be impossible for you to be 7% and still be alive.  so try not to worry about that.

I was having this issue also, except all on one scale. I mean going from like 127 to 124 in a matter of two hours (dont ask why I weighed in twice lol) I've been fluctuating like crazy lately.

Aim for 130, then you'll be fine even if the official scale is different from yours.

Stick to one scale, one time of day on the same day, once a week, to measure your progress by. All scales are set differently and things can vary during the day (clothing, food, water) to cause fluctuation. And yes, 7% would probably mean you were dead or close to it. To up your fats, if you are truly concerned, eat healthy fats from sources such as nuts, nut butters, avocados, oily fish and healthy oils like olive oil.

well the thing is they are the same scales

the scale at the dietition 2 weeks ago read 114..then the same scale at the dietition read 115 this week

then 2 weeks ago also the scale at the hospital read 122 then the same scale at the hospital this week read 119.

how can one set of scales say i gained and another say i lost.......and i went right from the dietition to the hospital..

Personk: The same how? The same brand? Seperate sets of scales will be calibrated differently. You need to go by one of those two - either the one at the doctor or the one at the nutritionist - and follow that. Not both.

But YOU will vary from day to day as much as 5 lbs depending on water weight, what you are wearing, if you just peed, etc.  So one scale could show a loss and the other a gain.  Not to mention some scales will vary if you even stand on it slightly differently.

Just track ONE scale and look for trends over time that's longer than one week.
