scales lie

I've been eating 1000 cals a day, I'm very lazy don't exercise. But my scales say I've lost 6lb in 4 days. Could that be possible? I dare not log the weight loss cos I know it;s wrong.

eh. you could've lost 6 lbs of water weight. No way you've burned 6 lbs of fat. weigh yourself again in a week.

As a side note you should not drop below 1200 cals/day.

Wow how people critizise when you lose weight.  I lost weight, not water.  I don't drink water.

I lost weight, not water.  I don't drink water.

You may not drink water, but most things you consume have some water in them. Water weight fluctuates much more than the weight from fat, and so rapid changes in weight can often be attributed to a simple change in water, or in having more or less food in your belly.

Why don't you drink water? - staying hydrated is healthy and makes you feel good, regardless of your goals for weight loss.

Oh, and you ask if it's possible, and when people say "probably not" you get mad?

Fluctuations because of "water weight" have nothing to do with how much water you drink. And even if you don't drink water you're getting it from somewhere seeing as its kind of necessary for life. :P

So reiterating what the others say, don't take it too seriously, weigh yourself again in a while and watch the trend. 6 pounds of fat in 4 days is not physically possible. You would have to burn 6x3500=21,000 calories to really lose that much. Maybe in a couple months. Not 4 days.

Also, if you do want to minimize these kind of fluctuations, weigh yourself at the same time of the day, wearing the same clothes, etc.

lois, you asked the question; don't get defensive because you don't like the answer.

Medical studies have shown that the body won't burn more than about 1% of its weight in fat in a week.  If you lose more than that, it will be water (especially at first), muscle, and other tissue.  That is why we recommend that you lose slowly.  Way too many of us have gone on diets that took a lot of weight off quickly only to gain that and more again.

Okay. I was just trying to give an explanation for something you already doubted. I may be right, I may be wrong. If you lost 6 lbs and you're happy about that, then good for you. I'm only trying to reiterate what you were already suggesting, which is that it is not possible to burn off 6 lbs of fat in 4 days. It is something else that you are losing. I'm sure you lost "weight." And if that's what you were going for, then good for you. Just saying that other things, besides fat, "weigh" something. Water has a "weight". Organs have a "weight". Muscle has a "weight".

And I have to second that it's probably a good idea to be drinking water.

well, you know, maybe lois weighs 1100 pounds, in which case 1% per week would be about right ;)

You wanted an answer and people offered one. No reason to get mad.

That must be it.  We should send Guiness over to her house.

LOL

Hi im only new and not too sure how this site works!

Can someone please tell me why it is so important not to ea less than 1000cals a day? Iv been on lipotrim for 7weeks and iv lost a total of 3stone 1lb i want to loose 10lb more! I honestly struggle to eat even 1000cals a day so far today after dinner ill have only eaten roughly around 700 Embarassed

from what i've gathered, santy, 1200 calories is the bare minimum required to fuel the basic systems of an adult woman's body.  that's what it takes to prevent organ damage and optimize functioning.  doesn't quite make sense to me, considering that we know billions of people around the world survive on a whole lot less, but that's the lore.

that said, even when i was a lot less active than i am now, i could lose weight on 1500 a day.  and i'm 40 and a healthy weight.  so i don't think there's any need to eat less than 1200.

Loislain, your other posts indicate that you are 5'4', 105 lbs, and 18 years old -- you are already clinically underweight. You definitely do not need to lose any more weight.

Not drinking water is a sure way to collapse one day -- the body requires water to regulate cells, and repair muscles (the technical isssues escape me at the moment)

According to this website -- a healthy weight for you is 109-149 lbs, depending on frame size.

Most bodies require at least 1200 calories just to get up and walk around (or sit at the computer) all day.  Actually, MOST bodies require MORE than 1200 calories.  1200 calories is good for a 19 year old, 5'2" at 100 lbs:

Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a  5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing:

-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)

If you are not those measurements you need to eat MORE than 1200 calories.

i don't think anyone was criticizing you. Water can equal weight. like someone said, you did not burn off 6lbs of fat, it was more than likely water, almost everything you consume contains water. It's pretty simple. and why don't you drink water again? I guess i'll be the one to criticize but i feel like your posts are more so for attention, rather than seeking advice.

" Wow how people critizise when you lose weight.  I lost weight, not water.  I don't drink water."

Lol. How very ignorant you are. Actually here, we congratulate weight loss. But not six pounds in four days, because that's UNHEALTHY when you're not exercise and eating under 1200 calories a day. Scales dont lie. Your mind lies to you. You probably did only lose WATER WEIGHT and by the way drinking water is good for you, so maybe you should think about that.
