Scared of gaining back...

Quote  |  Reply

I just had a few pounds to loose. I am now 120 at 5'7, and very happy with my weight. My biggest worry is gaining it back. I had to get ready for the beach for spring break. But now I am scared to add calories back. I was told your body adjusts to you eating less calories and wont need as many if you do eat less. I am eating 1300-1400 a day and excercising about 4 days a week. Should I stick to my current calorie amount, because I dont think my body is losing any more weight or do I need more calories?

um.... i really hope either your height or weight are typos because according to your BMI you are very underweight.  you actually need to GAIN about 30 pounds if you really are 5'7 and weigh 120 pounds.  that's probably why you can't lose anymore weight.  your body knows it's not healthy!!!  i suggest checking the weight gain forums for some advice on this.

i know you don't want to hear that, but you're going to get a lot more comments like mine, and some of them might not be so nice...

She is under weight but Have you seen those standards. I am 5 10 and if I weighed what they recommend I would feel big. I suggest asking your doctors and seeing if you healthy at the weight you at.  I don't think anyone needs to be rude concerned but not rude.

I recommend seeing your doctor and seeing what they have to say. nobody can really give you the advice you need unless they see you in person and can take your blood pressure and check everything else.

Well actually I am a lot healthier than I used to be. I have been very ill with random disease. My doctor suggested to start eating healthier and excercising. My BMI is just right when I checked it. Which is about a 19 which is the average weight. I am not trying to loose anymore weight, although I do not want to gain any back.

I am behind you my goal weight is 132 and I am 5 ' 10. I just hate when people get mean and start down grading you on other weight. That comment I made was for others because your decisions are yours and not there's. I dint not mean to get off the subject of your question.

I worked at a weight loss clinic and when other reached there goal weight, we would introduce foods back to them slowly to stabilize there body's. This took several weeks. I am not a doctor but I do now a lot about weight loss and nutrition. I am over weight because I had babies and lost control of the types of foods i was eating.

So please dont think that comment was suppose to be rude to you. I just dont think its right for others to be rude your your personal decisions.

Amberac- No, no, no! I dont think you were rude at all! I appreciate your comment. Thank you for the advice!

I don't think she was rude either...when I read the OP post I thought the exact same thing.

gaining 30 lbs seems a bit extreme. That isn't actually underweight; very thin and close to being underweight, but not underweight. Lots of people are naturally thin and gain weight by slipping into unhealthy habits, and their bodies may be better suited to being thinner. I think it's fine for her to be 120 lbs as long as she's physically healthy and doesn't lose ANY more weight.

i'm sorry.  i honestly feel really bad about my previous post now.  i'm 5'7 and i just can't see myself at that weight (although now i'm over 100 pounds heavier than that).  plus i have thin friends who weigh more than 120 and they're shorter than 5'7.  i guess i just picture someone thinner as being too thin.  i'm sorry i was so rude.

"My BMI is just right when I checked it. Which is about a 19 which is the average weight. "

Actually, it appears that you are a bit underweight, depending on your age. A healthy bmi is between 20-25 unless you are still a teen.

I think the proof is in the pudding: if you cannot eat what is recommended for your height, weight, and activity level W/O gaining, then you are probably undereating and underweight. The long term health effects of chronic undereating are there even if you cannot see them. So the real question is, which is more important, being that thin, or being truly healthy?

Good luck!

Well on a different site it said I was average. I am not undereating at all... I eat all the time and eat untill I am full! I am just wondering if I need more than that. I am eating healthy foods that fill me up like fruits and veges. I wish people werent so quick to judge. I am not underweight if you met me. I am not undereating. Ask anyone that knows me. I am going to take amberac's advice and start adding foods back, but still keeping them healthy. So thanks anyways.
