really scared right now....heart beating weird...
I was out on a walk today and a really good song came on so I tried to pick up my pace and I felt my heart just start to make some weird beats. I have felt this feeling before but it only lasted for a couple of seconds... it's been going on for the last hour now. I feel kind of light headed too. I called my doctor and my appointment is in 4 hours from now. So now I wait. I called my husband on his cell and I just started crying before I could tell him what was going on. Plus- I started my period today and we have been dealing with a hot water leak in the foundation- which I found out that our home owners insurance will only cover damage to the property itself and not to the actual fixing of the leak which we have had estimates from anywhere from 850 dollars to 4500 dollars! That's a big range. So part of this could be stress... I feel a little better pouring out my feelings here but the next 4 hours are going to be hell!!!
Take a deep breath and blow it out. Now, take another deep breath and blow it out. Relax. I'm hoping beyond hope that when you told the doctor's office what was going on, they told you it was probably minor and could wait until the next available appointment? Cause otherwise....
It really is probably no big deal -- I occasionally get bouts of irregular heartbeats when I stress -- the doctors are not concerned.
There is nothing you can do about anything else going on in your life right now, so sit down and relax, and wait for the doctor's all clear
Thanks :).... I looked up on the internet and found a section about irregular heart beats and I'm hoping it is from anemia or thyroid condition- which are treatable...
It's good that you have an appointment today. It's probably minor, caused by all that's going on - exercise + anxiety + stress, etc. The doc will be able to tell you.
Do you know any relaxation exercises? Controlled breathing and positive imaging might help for the time being.
I hope you'll come back and let us know how you are.
Thanks Clairelaine- Yes- I will definately let you know what the doctor found. Only 3 hours until I can leave for my appointment....
Ok- so the doctor didn't find anything abnormal- ekg was fine- but I have to schedule a "stress test" and be hooked up to ekg while running on treadmill... so that should be fun...:)... I don't like people watching while I jog.... Also- since I do have annual physical scheduled in Feb they went ahead and did some blood work to check my cholestrol level. And I'm pleased to report that my blood pressure was normal- 124/72- (not bad for someone that weighs 297 pounds)- my heart rate was 100 which was up just a pinch from the last time they examined me. The palpations finally stopped after about 3 hours. Luckily- I hadn't had anything to eat so they were able to do the blood today and I didn't have to make another trip... I usually have a yogurt too before my walk but I totally forgot to eat. Weird.
Could be from anemia, especially if you're not eating as much red meat as your body might have been used to in the past. And if you're not compensating for the loss of red meat with lots of green leafy veggies like spinach. Get yourself a cast iron skillet and cook your foods in there whenever you cook something in a frying pan or skillet. The iron cooks into the food (at a safe level, of course) and that can help if your body is feeling somewhat anemic.
Thanks jrod- I do have a cast iron pan and did have some eggs cooked in it on Sunday. But I am on the big P so that could be it- the doctor called and left me a voice mail- my labs were actually ok- (at least she didn't mention anemia) she did tell me my cholestrol was a little high at 215 but didn't go into specifics. She didn't tell me my TSH level either but I do have a physical exam still scheduled for middle of Feb so I will discuss with my primary care doctor. I'm supposed to schedule for a stress test but haven't done it yet. I did manage to go on a walk today and was fine. I'm planning on going on an hour and a half walk tomorrow since there isn't any rain in the forecast for awhile... :)
Something that is very common is PVCs -- premature ventricular contractions. They often occur as a response to stress and feel weird, indeed! I get them, and have found that taking a deep breath or two or coughing can get them to stop.
Just an update- it was my actual total cholestrol that was 215- so part of that has "good" included. My "bad" was only about 15 points above normal- and my TSH level was actually HIGH- it was 5.6 and high normal is 3. something. When I go for my follow up appt. in Feb- they will probably do a full thyroid panel. When I told the veterinarian I work for I first told her that my TSH was low because I miss-understood the doctor- but then when I looked at them after I had the doctor fax my level and told her that I was actually high- she said that that made sense as that would go along with a faster heart beat and irregular beat..... but I'm still optimistic that it will come back low. My sister- in law- when she was first diagnosed- her thyroid was high- then it went low and she's been on medication for low thyroid for over 10 years now.... I guess I'll just have to be on pins and needles until Feb....and interestingly- it will be on my anniversary when I first joined Calorie- count- and I did not plan that either.....weird...
