the scariest day of the year!
to be single on valentine's day...
(or if you're a guy with many girlfriends, all of whom think they're you're one and only)
(or if you're the only girl in the office whose SO doesn't send her flowers)
last valentine's day i had just recently broken up with my long-time bf and totally wasn't ready to think about dating. i'm still a little ambivalent ![]()
the about.com coping with being single on valentine's is kinda good
gave me some ideas
i just booked a 30 minute massage for saturday morning
i'm going to buy some $5 gas cards at Sheetz and give them away to random people who have to work that day, i'm going to attach them to little valentines like we used to give away in grade school ![]()
and i'm gonna see if i can round up the girls to go see He's Just Not That Into You that evening...
should be a fun day!
Valentine's doesn't scare me. I am a bit amused by the perception that a special meal, a box of chocolate and a bunch of flowers can somehow enhance one's love-life.
Everyone knows it's beer, chicken wings and Gator football. ;)
candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker!
![]()
i don't like chocolate, so i would feel disappointed if i got chocolates
and i'm sure you mean Carolina basketball! ![]()
Go Tar Heels! (beat those Blue Devils tonight!)
Even though it's the anniversary of our first date, hubby and I have agreed to let it be a non-event this year, as we currently can't afford to do a whole lot at the moment. Although there are plenty of cost free methods of celebrating anything....![]()

No doubt you meant Michigan football :-D
'xactly, Santo :D
No dough for Victoria Secret? A t-shirt and an attitude'll do it. :)

Or a men's dress shirt and high heels (on the woman...well...depending on your preferences....) ![]()
I've been single too long for it to bother me. I look at it more as a kids holiday now as I buy cards for all my neices and nephews and put a dollar and some stickers inside.
I'm going to my friend's house who has 3 acres of land and a pond. I'm taking my dog, Cadie, so she can run free while I drink some rum and diet coke, listen to tribal/drum music, burn some sage and star gaze.

See? We can beat this dang 'financial crisis'. We just need to find our ingenuity and incorporate good ole American know-how. :)
Oh, you mean February 14th, Single Awareness Day...
I don't get it. Valentine's Day doesn't stress me out, make me feel lonely, or depressed...then again, I always thought it was a silly, useless day.
Ditto, Doc.
Although I do like Nomo's concept of spreading love via random acts of kindness.
'He's Just Not That Into You' is really good!!
I'm married, but we're not doing anything special for Valentines Day. I also think it's a useless day
It's not useless to all the little kids who make mailboxes out of old shoe boxes and give valentines to one another. (Do they still do that?) When I was little, I loved decorating my old shoe box with hearts and paper lace. ![]()
When I saw the title of this thread - I thought the scariest day was going to be April 15th - Tax Day!
i've always liked valentines day, single or attached.
my BF and i are going for a nice italian dinner in the north end of boston.
but i told him no gifts, and i'm hoping he actually sticks to it! i'll probably just get him a card.
I'm actually more afraid of Valentines Day now that I'm NOT single. I don't know. It's the one day the I don't want to screw up with my girl. It's more about her than me (I could care less). She's good to me, so I want to be good to her.
Gator, Plasma - how are you watching football in February?
Hee hee - am not (except for, you know, the reruns of great Gator victories). That's why Valentine's Day doesn't mean anything to me. :D :D

awww
that is so sweet!
*sniff*
It is sweet. :)
I guess I'm the only one who likes to celebrate Valentine's day. When I was growing up my parents were always very romantic and I just fell into that. In fact I still plan on getting myself and my roommate flowers that day even though I'm broke. It's just sweet to celebrate love in any form.
That said I'm not a person who's disappointed if I don't get to go out or get a box of chocolates or anything- but I do expect that the other person (if I'm in a relationship at the time) at least try and do something thoughtful instead of letting me get to be the baby sitter for his son while he goes and hangs out with his brother. You don't even have to buy a freaking card- write me something sweet on freaking notebook paper. Is that so hard? (Sorry, went off on a vent there. XD )
But I'm single, still like Valentine's day, and still will be crying my eyes out that night because of these stupid fake hormones. But it's been Single Awareness Year so I can't fault the holiday.

I'm getting better at it
...baby steps - one day at a time.
