Scary without makeup

Quote  |  Reply
OK...

So I would consider myself pretty, when I have makeup on!! Otherwise, when I wake up in the morning, with no make up on, i'm really scary looking!!

I can't leave the house without mascara/eyeliner... I admire those women who don't need make up and look great..

Anyone else feel like a dog without make up?

I am curious. Did you start wearing makeup young? Here is the reason why I am asking this. I almost never wear makeup. I was not allowed as a teen and then ...well I don't really feel a need for it on an everday basis. But as a teen I had a friend who started wearing makeup relatively young (don't know exactly but probably at least 14 years old) and by her 20s she could not stand to see herself without it. And I thought it's too bad because she is perfectly fine without makeup and almost noone knows how she "really" looks like naturally.
I did start pretty young.  Probably at 14.  I think it's screwed my eyes up because I always have bags under my eyes that I didn't have before.

I've got really nice features, but my eyes have really light lashes so it looks pretty s*itty without something to define them.
if you're only wearing mascara, it's not big deal. Some would say it's not even makeup! lol

If your face is covered with creams, powder, lipstick, and eye shadow and you can't stand to see yourself otherwise then, that's another story.
I don't go overboard with makeup.  I just use some foundation and eyeliner and mascara.

I'm not one of those girls with an inch of makeup on my face!!  Then i'd really be worried.
I am a natural blonde and have blonde eyelashes and eyebrows.  Mascara is an absolute must for me.  Also, I have very thin transparent skin so you can see blue veins on my eyelids so I like to wear a little bit of foundation.  That's all I need to feel good though.
Not really. I only just started wearing makeup this year (i'm 17) and even now I only use a little concealor and lip gloss. Very rarely do I use anything else.
i wear make-up pretty much daily. i consider myself attractive, but i just like how i look with make-up on. on the weekends i'll putter around or run errands with out it, but for work and going out, i always wear light foundation, blush, mascara and liner.

i think make-up can make anyone look better if they wear it right. i can understand why people wouldn't want to wear it everyday, but i think why not look as good as you possibly can!
I used to wear make-up ALL the time and I started when I was very young (about 13) but then this past year I started working at a truck dealership with a bunch of old men so I just stopped caring and now I never do my make-up (except maybe on the weekends) and I have my hair in a pony-tail a lot more often. The funny thing is that I SELL make-up and skin care products so it's very important for me to look my best but I only make an effort on the weekends when I see my clients.

I think a little makeup goes along way.. but I agree with geura, no caked on make up here...    winter I wear foundation.. summer I dont because I'm so tan...   eyeliner, a little neutral (tan or brown) eye shadow, some mascara, and some neutral lip gloss.  I like shiny lips!  :)
Yep, "dog" without makeup here! It's all in our heads. It's something I probably need to get over, but it's not something I dwell on at all, so I don't see it as a huge problem. I LOVE wearing makeup, not just for making myself look pretty, but I think of it as art -- it's fun to play with all that color. Anyway, I'm not as bad as I USED to be. I'll let the occasional person see me without it and I CAN run to the store without it, though I do feel uncomfortable. A lot of times I just throw on a pair of sunglasses. It's NOT that we're truly ugly without it -- that's ONLY what WE think. We can change the way we think. :)
I agree with some of you who said it, it's fun to put on make up.

I'm pretty pale with freckles, so I have to wear make up!!! I admire all of you with a tan and dark eyelashes.  You're the type that usually doesn't have to wear make up..

alayney- I'm getting better as well.  Although I won't leave "naked" (without makeup or sunglasses) I don't feel like I have to have foundation, eyeliner and mascara on...Just some eyeliner.

A MAN INVENTED MAKE UP!! I can tell you that much!

I also like to see the pics of celebrities without make up, it makes me feel sooooo much better.
When I was younger (like 8th grade) I started wearing makeup.  I had a lot of fun putting it on, but I usually over-did it and picked really unnatural colors.  Of course, that was more in style back then but it just looked bad!

Then somewhere along the line, I stopped caring.  It was some time during my sophomore or junior year of highschool, I think.  I stopped with the whole face full of foundation (I have fairly good, clear skin just a little pale... but I'm young...seems pointless) and no more blush unless I'm going to a wedding or something.  I used to wear a little eyeshadow, maybe a light liner sometimes, and mascara.  THat's even cut down now.  All I ever put on is mascara unless I just feel like getting "dressed up" or I'm bored.  Even then I only add eyeshadow to the mix.  I have blonde lashes ... if not, I'd even skip that.  I wear a deep purple mascara because I have dark eyes and it's not as dramatic as black.  Black mascara looks like way too much on me, since my eyeballs are the only thing thats not beige basically.  It's hard to find a lighter brown ANYWHERE.  I stick with my purple.  I love it. :)

My eyes look way too puny without mascara, I think.  I wish I could give it up though!
I feel ya plm0187.. If there was one thing I couldn't give up, makeup wise, it would be mascara!!
I'm only 17, but I've never been able to get in the habit of putting on makeup. I always feel like you can tell when someone has make up on. I have a friend who wears the wrong color, so she always has a line... yuck.

I'm a dancer/actor, so I wear make up then, it's fun to put on, but every day... no way.
alifranroy-- If you feel comfortable without it, then don't wear it.  I wish I could feel like that..

I agree, I hate the "two faces" when someone is wearing the wrong foundation or hasn't blended it.  Ecckk.
I wear alot of make-up. I work at a bar, and like to look dressed up cause, frankly, I get more tips. But then other times I say "ok, I'll just wear a bit of foundation" but that leads to "now my face looks all pasty, I need some blush" But blush doesn't look right without eyeshadow, and eyeshadow needs mascara, and with the upper half of my face done like that, I must need lipstick too. Indeed, by the end of my make-up routine I have added between 11 and 16 products to my face. It looks good, and its taken me a long time to perfect my colours.. but.. I kinda wish I was comfortable enough to go outside (other than to run) without my "mask" on.
sarah- My sis is a bartender so she has to do the same thing you do. Hey, if it makes you money than I would sure as hell do it!
When I was younger I wore a lot of makeup, but now I don't at all. Now all I usually wear is mascara & clear lip gloss (like in my profile pic)
I don't even know why I wear mascara, I have naturally really long, black eyelashes. Just habit I guess
I get compliments when I wear make-up and therefore feel better about my looks when wearing it. Unfortunately that also means that if I don't wear it, my confidence drops as well.
I so envy girls who dont have to wear makeup... I am quite dark and so have major discoloration around my under eye area... I f I dont wear concealer, i look as if I have been on crack or something!!!
