Scary things! (I'm scared.)
I'm not big on horror films, but I just watched one and I don't think I've ever been that frightened by something fake. It's called Flowers of Flesh and Blood and it's basically half an hour of a woman getting cut up...so disturbing.
It doesn't help that my bedroom is in the terrifyingly dark basement. Ugh.
So, what scares you? What's the scariest film you've seen?
A movie hasn't scared me since I was a wee child. I'll have to check out this one though. Seems right up my alley.
Edit: Ohhhh, this is a Guinea Pig movie. They're not scary. They're just gross. Eww.
I dont get why people like watching simulated snuff and torture films....
No real story...nothing really being said...simply enough there to set the stage for seeing how horribly you can hurt a person (mentally and physically) before finally killing them....
Is it fun? I dont get it? I mean, people go to jail for most of their life for doing that with a subject like raping a child...yet "basically half an hour of a woman getting cut up" is more acceptable?
People really get murdered in some horrific ways, their last hours alive are spent being tortured and ripped apart as they watch themselves die....being done by other people.... I just dont get the fun in watching it happening (even simulated).
*shrug*
^ Haha, thanks for making me think so late at night.
I didn't like this film, because I would have preferred the victim had an opportunity to escape instead of just being unconscious or whatever.
The point of a horror film is to freak people out. That's where the fun is meant to come from. That film freaked me out; it didn't entertain me like other stuff and only served to make me uncomfortable and frightened of the sort of person who'd do that. Horror films play on tension and curiosity in their construction though so I think they're all a bit sick in a way. The lack of story was a turn off for me though, like I said.
People go to jail for child rape and murder/mutilation like they go to jail for child pornography, but not for fake images of murder/mutilation... I think the primary difference is that in the simulated snuff film case, nobody is genuinely hurt. Another interesting point is that simulated child porn, e.g. with very young looking women over 18 wearing suggestive clothing, is legal...and simulated rape porn is as well.
Horror movies used to be about the mystery and the story line, but now its only about blood and gore and torture. I don't know how people voluntarily watch people get killed, and then think its terrible that we have wars? I don't know, thats a different topic entirely, I know, its just something to think about.
I forgot what movie it was, but I remember I watched a clip from a movie where they hung a girl from the ceiling and a naked woman underneath her was sitting in a bathtub holding a scythe and like slashing at her and bathing in her blood.
Someone described the scene as "sexy".
Anyway, I can't watch horror movies. I simply cannot.
And has anyone ever watched Faces of Death?
THAT seriously freaked me out. Even the 1970 movie.
Spiders scare me. Insects. Arachnids and insects in general i suppose. Butterflies and moths, ants, daddy long legs are a big one.........i dont trust anything thats smaller than me that can move faster!
Clowns, because why would a grown man want to do that for a living...reeks of pedophilia to me.
Lifts/Elevator unless they have 3 glass walls; cause oif i do get trapped in one at least then I can be seen by people through the glass and they can save me!
Brocolli; nearly choked on one once. I used to adore them, now i just dont trust them!
and i havent ever found a movie thats scared me. I guess its because i was exposed so early to gore! one of my earliest memories is watching the Jackal, where bruce willis loses an arm etc, and was addicted to Buffy at quite a young age. I wish i could find a scary one though! Ive tried them all!
"It" scared the hell out of me, still does, but it has nothing to do with the gore.
Similar with the particular scenes in "Poltergeist" with that thing on the chair with the creepy grin.
Clowns are evil.
Devils Advocate. Hands down.
Is the movie "It" why people are afraid of clowns?
I don't get why clowns are scary.
I have friends who run away screaming at the sight of them.
never seen 'IT' but not likely to. just even as a tiny child i'd hide from them in the circus. seriously gave me the heebyjeebies! also how they like to bring you down from your seat to perform with them in the ring; i associate them with public embarassment!
I can watch literally Anything except "IT". Honestly I can't pin the 'exact' reason why it gets to me (I'm NOT afraid of Clowns....mom did a stint performing as one for handicapped children) but I seriously can't sit through it. The book... no problem. Just not the film!

I don't think it's because of that specific movie, as I have met small children that are terrified of clowns who have never seen a horror flick. Although I'm sure that some could trace it to some pop culture reference.
I've read that it could have something to do with a traumatic experience, or the fact that the face is obscured by makeup and thus hiding the person's true intentions and masking facial expressions. I never had a "traumatic" experience with one, but I've always been creeped out by them - haven't figured why yet.
I love love love love love horror movies!!!!!!
**note** I am a normal woman with a family ;)
I haven't seen a horror movie in years that actually scared me. You might laugh but the last one that got me was the Blair Witch Project. They did a fantastic job advertising this in my city before it came out. People put up very average pages in apartments and buildings saying that these people had gone missing - so it was all built up before. When I went into the movie I thought it was real, so watching the footage was truely scary.
Nothing done by Hollywood scares me anymore. I find a good horror movie fun to watch and a bad horror movie is more of a comedy to me.
zombies zombies zombies. they come and eat you, rip you to pieces and what not.
the faster they can run, the smarter they are, more chance you won't survive :<
The old Hitchcock movie The Birds freaked me out. I still don't like birds around me.
As of "IT", I thought the movie was lame and not very frightening. The book was quite scary and suspenseful. It is one of my favorite Stephen King books. The movie just didn't have the suspense or the same level of scariness.
yeh agreed....zombies really scare.....its just the way they move.....
when i was a kid..."it"...."candyman"....really scared...watched them recently and thought what the hell...didnt scare me at all...
stuff like the ring and the grudge scare me....stop bringing out films with girls with hair over there face crawling downstairs!!

Well, it seems like most movie makers have lost the art of developing tension. You don't need to show much at all to make a good horror movie.
There's a scene in one movie that gets me every time. It's just a woman holding a pair of scissors and standing over another woman who's sleeping. Because they did such a great job building tension before then, the scene makes me squirm - and there is nothing violent happening in that moment.
I forgot what movie it was, but I remember I watched a clip from a movie where they hung a girl from the ceiling and a naked woman underneath her was sitting in a bathtub holding a scythe and like slashing at her and bathing in her blood.
I believe that is Hostel 2.
I don't think a movie has ever scared me. I wish they did though.
There were 2 movies relatatively recently that emotionally devastated me. The French movie "Inside" which did a superb job with tension (and realistic gore). The other is "Jack Ketcham's Girl Next Door," which is based off of a true story.
Girl Next Door affected me so much I don't know if I could ever watch it again. And I watch a ton of horror movies.
&nb sp; Saw that scared the crape out of me. Fri13th and the first time i saw Freddie crougar. Any movie that has alot of cutting people up I don't like. The Girl next door anniville possition was scrry to me thinking about your body being possed by a parenormal thing.Likr the Haunting in Conneticut. Exordus 1&2.dac250
&nb sp; I really think horra film are not horror I think they are gory and I think that they put ideas maybe subconciously in kids minds. To me a good hooor film is a film that is made to keep you on the edge of your seat like When a stranger calls, it wasn't gory no one was getting cut up yet it gives you that certain edge to keep your attention. To me those are the good ones. DAC 250
I love the Saw movies. I just think they are scary enough, but they make you think. I guess you'd call it a psychological thriller.
