Everyday when I get home from school I just want to eat right away, even if I'm not really hungry. It's become a habit! Does anyone have any good suggestions to stop these cravings?
Thanks a bunch
I kind of do the opposite. I take a diet coke (not really that good for you, but I can't help it, it's addictive) and 2 clementines or a little premade salad. Some carrots or an apple or something. All seperate.
When I get home I eat cereal. Great grains is my favorite, it's totally caloric, though! I never would have thought Great Grains would be my splurge food. ^^ Sometimes I have a salad with half of a red baron french bread pizza for a meal, too.
I don't eat lunch at school, though. And I always eat some breakfast, like half an oatmeal pack because I'm not a big breakfast-eater.
Im totally the same!!
Ever since I started school, 'afternoon tea' has become a huge habit.
Before I started calorie counting, I would come home, and just start eating whatever I wanted without a seconds thought.
If you're one of those people who, no matter how much you eat at school, still feel like eating a tonne when you get home, then I probably wouldnt eat at school.
Instead when you come home, even though you're craving carbs and sugary foods ect. just try your best to fill up on fruits and vegetables first, then if your still craving the bad stuff, have a little bit of it (in moderation) afterwards.
Another suggestion I can give you is, when you get home, try to avoid the kitchen or pantry as soon as you walk in the door. Just have a big glass of water and walk away for fifteen minutes. It usually helps break the habbit of after-school-binging, and'll help you make more calorie concious choices when you do go to eat that afternoon snack.
Well, I hope that all made some sense!
xo
Needless to say, those things are no longer kept in my house. xD
I am totally a tea addict now, it gets me warm after i come in from the cold, keeps my hands and mouth busy, and is totally delicious! i highly reccommend tea.
also try an apple, its high fibre, so it should fill you. if you want a sweeter treat, cut up an apple and put it in the centre of a square piece of tin foil(keep the skin on, it has all the good stuff) and sprinkle 1 tbsp brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon on top. wrap it up tightly and bake it at 350 for 20-30 mins. its very satisfying, at only 110 calories i believe. its like apple pie filling. the only problem is waiting for 20 minutes to eat it, while the delicious smell wafts into the kitchen!
you could make a mini pizza too, with half of a pita, some pizza sauce, cheese, and your fave toppings, broiled in the oven (about 150 calories). i love love love rice cakes, very low cal. another lifesaver for me is sugar free jello (5 calories). you can also get mini fudgsicles or fat free ones, theyre about 45 calories each and they give me major chocolate satisfaction. i also enjoy a good old popsicle, the ones with two sticks are only 60 cals, and you can even get a sugar free kind if you want. if you like pickles, you can definitely dig into those. i also love english muffins, try having half of one with some peanut butter(not too much! i use half a tbsp) or some laughing cow cheese.
there are so many things you could do, even just try some water or flavoured water (if you really need something sweet!)
i hope you can use some of these suggestions. i'm the type of person who loves to snack, i cant divert it or ignore it. but you dont have to go on cal overload, sometimes a cup of tea is suffice, if not, the snacks i mentioned above wont kill your diet. when worst comes to worst, i stick a piece of gum in my mouth and suck it up!
Usually about a liter of water, too. (Literally)
