School swimming starts tomorrow and I'm super self-conscious!
I'm really scared about swimming tomorrow. I'm in a P.E. class with girls who have bodies like Jessica Alba, while I'm more of Jennifer Love Hewitt body type (just taller) and I'm really not looking forward to it. I'm not tan like those other girls, I have cellulite and some stretch marks on my hips, and I'm really nervous about it. Does anybody have any advice about the swimming unit, and how I should handle it for three weeks?
Just go out there with your head high and act confident regardless of if you feel confident or not. Believe me, if you act confident people will notice that and not so much your body.. vs if you come out all slouched over and hiding people will notice more.
In my case, when i was bigger, I knew that I was big... but even when I lost weight, I still thought that I looked just as big as I did before, even if that wasn't the case. I know I don't know you, but I am willing to bet that you look better than you think you do. And for the record, JLH is not in bad shape herself!
All those girls will be more concerned with what they look like, not with you.
I def second the last post. Confidence is the key.
When I go swimming (I have major stretch mark issues on my hips and down my thighs too) I just think: I'm me! I'm doing this for my fitness and proud of it. By that time, I'm in the pool and feel more covered lol
Also I sewed a swimming skirt to my bathing suit as I was never comfortable with the top of my things showing... felt too naked. But I've also seen bigger women in t-shirts over theirs, and young girls in shorts. So you're def not alone.
Enjoy the swimming!
If you draw attention to something, others will notice it more.
So don't say, i'm so embarresed about my cellulite, hoping the others will say that yuo have nothing to worry about. Because before you said anything the were concerned about their own body bits. Even if they tell you not to be silly, they will look afterwards, because you told them to look. The same thing goes for t-shirts.
If you are tall, like you said and have a body like JLH, most girls will be jeoulous of you! Everyone wants to be tall! And just blame the stretchmarks on growing tall quickly. Noone can prove otherwise. It's all about attitude. and once you're in the water no one can see anything.
Enjoy the swimming, it's great exercise!
Hey there. Ok first off, yes I'm a guy but I have valid points too. LOL :)
First. listen and re-read every reply above mine as they are all DEAD CENTER ON! The ones that should be concerned are THEM, not you.
Second. You are going to hear "Beauty comes from the inside" a TON in your life. Ya know why? IT IS TRUE. Ya know what also comes from the inside? Confidence. Pride. Determination. Goals. Dreams.
Third. Wear what YOU want to wear. There is a guy on the FIT channel that says something about trends and fashion and he ties it into your inner self. I'll find it and post it for you because I heard it for the first time last night and it's ringin in my head.
Four. I'm going to try to make this positive and focused on the right things. I am a guy, but I'm also a gay man. The point here? What I have learned about the gay culture is that vanity is so rampant in the gay lifestyle. It seems like if I dont have a 12" waist, abs you can wash jeans off of, and a chiseled jawline I am nothing. Where am I going with this? I know what you are feeling. I picked out my swimsuit just last weekend for the summer. It took me 3 hours (and a lot of patient friends) but when all was said and done it was something I was comfortable with.
Now, am I Hugh Jackman walking the beach? Nope. Do I care? NOPE! I am me. I'm happy with how I am starting to look. I was able to turn "super self conscious" into "super self confident". And what the wise people above my post say is accurate. If you are yourself, and project confidence... people are blinded by that. It radiates like the sun. And the sun, just as a reminder is the hottest of all stars. All other planets revolve around the sun. It is the earths main source of energy. So SHINE :)
And finally, to get over the moments when I want to go from super self conscious to super self confident. I listen to music. The words drive me to hold my head high, shoulders back, and eyebrows unplucked (that was for humor).
Take a gander to "Beautiful U R" by Deborah Cox.
"Look in the mirror and see who you are...
Beautiful U R"
Rick
Thank you everyone. I went into swimming today and I wasn't afraid and didn't say anything negative about my body. And just like you all said, nobody was even paying attention to my body. Everyone in the locker room was obsessed with saying "look at this roll!" "Oh my gosh another leg lump" (and these are the Jessica Alba girls! lol). I genuinely want to thank everyone who posted. The advice was wonderful
I agree with kjw, just act confident!
I know that when I see a girl (regardless if she is bigger) they are always so much more beautiful when confident! People hardly notice size when your act like your hot. ![]()
