Sci fi costume?

Does anyone have any good ideas for a halloween fancy dress costume for a girl with a sci fi theme, I think it also mentioned fantasty but its mainly sci fi based. Im kinda stuck all I can think of is princess leila.

Lieutenant Ulhura from Star Trek.

Almost anything you would like to do as long as it involves shiny material and odd colored makeup.  (and don't forget the antenna)  It would be a 1950s sci-fi look.

-any comic strip character you can think of (superheroine, mutant, etc.)

-if you can go fantasy that's even better, think renaissance princess, tavern wench, etc. Or characters from lord of the rings, etc.

You could try Kate Beckinsale's character from 'Underworld', or an elf ala 'Lord of the Rings', Milla Jovovich's character Violet from 'Ultraviolet'... 

Imo, the Leeloo costume (Fifth Element) has been done to death...no offense to any of those planning on being her for Halloween...just my opinion. 

Ooo, Violet would be fun.  Possibly simple too.

I did the Queen of Blades from Starcraft once.  That was rather fun- lots of syrofoam for the wings and then green goo makeup and such.

Barbarella's another fun one since it's classic sci-fi.  And 60s.

What's the definition of fancy dress for this party?  Are they just trying to have people avoid the cheap "sexy" costumes or is it more along the lines of black tie?  (What I think of when I think of fancy dress costume is masquerade: 1700s clothing, edging towards fantastical and masks.  This is why I ask.)

one of the Female X-men,  Queen Amadala,  a generic Jedi knight. ( I have a friend with a stormtrooper costume, but they are a ton of work).

an alien of any kind, make up something sci fi/fantasy ish.

I've been to several sci fi conventions and have friends who are big on costumes and cosplay

Any D & D character, or other rpg character. Most conventions are full of them.

Ohh some cool ideas thanx guys, I kinda like the idea of one of the x men or maybe go for the slightly more fantasy lord of the rings.

I just didnt want to go as someone from star trek, I wanted something that I could make my costume a bit more interesting, thanks for the ideas.
