I was just wondering if anyone else had ever tried these. I started reading about all the bleach and things that are in tampons, and it just grossed me out to think of putting all that into my body. I wanted to try the Keeper/Diva Cup thing, but I have an IUD so it just wasn't an option.
So far I've had no issues at all with the sponge (it's basically just a little sea sponge that you rinse with warm water and then put back in), but I have had to get used to noticing when it's full (and when it's full, it's full).
Has anyone else ever tried them?
I ordered them online since I couldn't find them in any stores. I think they're made by Jade and Pearl, so if you Google that I'm sure something will come up (I think they also make those washable pads and things).
So far I like them, and it's nice to know that I'm not stuffing bleach and whatever inside myself (I've also heard fiberglass is sometimes added to tampons - not sure it's true, but it freaks me out). I've also heard about women saving the menstrual blood and feeding it to their plants (I guess it's really good for flowering plants), but I'm not sure I'm ready to go that far with it.
Just wondering though, do most people just go with conventional pads or tampons or are there a lot of Keeper users around?
wow I've never heard of them before... But the concept of using it, then washing it & reusing it just seems a bit gross.. Why? Well it seems a bit unsanitary..What if the water you wash it with is contaminated with something or another? or was high in sodium.. I don't know.. How sure are you that these are safer than just normal tampons? personally I prefer ultra pads... they dont show, dont require shoving, and feel clean!

No, not really at all. You wash them with very warm water before reinserting, and clean between uses with a solution of tea tree oil and water. I'm using them because I'd rather not insert bleach filled cotton into my body. As for pads, which I've never used, there are also Luna Pads and other washable products.
They end up being cheaper, since at least around here, a box of tampons is usually around $7 I think (I kind of stopped paying attention, since I had to buy them monthly), and two sponges are about $15, and you can use them probably for around a year I think if they're properly cared for. Also, they're environmentally friendly, since they don't produce waste at all.
Edit to add: regarding the safety of conventional pads as well as tampons, you might want to look up a bit of information about them. While cotton is just fine for the most part, most of the other things in these "hygene products" are really not things you probably want inside or even near that area of your body.
