Have a seat on the porch and chat about Aunt Bea's supper

Quote  |  Reply

Come on up, have a seat.  Its a warm evening, we've all just had some of Aunt Bea's supper, and we've just been listening to Andy play guitar.

Any other Andy Griffith Show fans?  What about those other wonderful 1950's television shows?  Which ones did you like the best?  What was it that was so different, dare I say special, about them?  Where have all the simple things gone in our world?

There’s something relaxing about watching those shows, even today, or maybe especially today.  They depict a place at a time that makes me wish I was there.  Yes, I know life wasn’t really like the lives in those shows, but gee, Wally, a fella can hope can’t he?

There's plenty of space on the porch, don't be shy.  Have a seat and say hello.

Hello Oarsman, a.k.a. David, and hello to the other forum peeps!

*slaps David's hand*

Not too much supper now, or you won't have room for dessert! Save some room for the pie and a big ol' scoop of ice cream! :)

Bea, have you been making any more of your famous pickles?  Be sure to make him eat a whole batch of those, too!

'allo Miss Bea.  Funny you should drop by.  Let's start the ball rolling.  Favorite character on the Andy Griffith Show?  In fact, favorite 1950's tv show?  Oh what the heck, favorite show from the 50's or 60's?  Let's live wild.

Let's not get into the 70's because, in my very humble opinion, tv started its slow decline during that decade.  Oh sure, there were, and still are, some really excellent television shows from the 70's onward, but something from the 50's has been lost.  I'm just not sure what it is.

Hahaha....You are pretty close! I don't make "pickles" but I do "pickle" fresh jalepenos, and he can eat a whole batch at a time.

You should see it, his face turns red and he starts to sweat...very cute. Laughing

Jalepenos Yell (<- that's the closest to pukey I could find *shrugs shoulders*)

Well, if we're all going to be "buddies" on here (which reminds me, I need to add Bea as a friend, too, if that's okay), then you may as well find out now.  I'm the world's pickiest eater, and for the most part I don't eat anything green (there are few exceptions, but to explain them all would take a whole new paragraph).

Woops, I didn't see the other post.....

My favorite Andy Griffith character:  That's hard because I am biased.  My father really has the Sheriff Andy personality.  He's a people person, and is very laid back, but Barney, well, need I say more?  I guess really you couldn't have one without the other.  The Darling's really put a good spin on it too, and man! They were talented.

My favorite 50s sitcom:  I guess it would be the Andy Griffith show.  I can easily watch them over and over again and still laugh.  But I must admit, that there are nights I sing the Beverly Hillbillies theme to my 4-year old before he goes to bed.  (What?!  He likes stories, and that's a short one!)

Ah yes, the pickle story.  I found this online...

The Andy Griffith Show Episode 43: The Pickle Story Originally Aired on Dec 18, 1961.   Average User Rating: 8.9 out of 10  (16155 entries).

It's canning time again, and Aunt Bee has put up another batch of pickles. After realizing the only thing they're good for is killing flies brave enough to land on them, Andy and Barney decide to substitute store-bought for her homemade and hand the originals to travelers passing through Mayberry. After the switch, Bee decides to enter her pickles in the county fair. Unfortunately, the perennial winner is Clara Johnson, Bee's best friend, and she has her heart set on winning her 12th blue ribbon in a row. Andy and Barney have no choice but to destroy all eight jars before she can enter, so they eat night and day until all the pickles are gone. They do their work proudly, but Bee decides that since the boys liked them so much, she will make a double batch.

Well that's no big deal.  The peppers which Miss Bea pickles are red.  Much spicier that way, just the way I like it Sealed

I would love to have you add me as a friend, and I'll add you as well.

For me, out of all the AG characters, Barney's my fave. Poor guy, he never gets it right, no matter how hard he tries.

No offense taken. I had a friend that was the same way. She would only eat mexican food if her hubby treated her to ice cream afterwards. She claimed it settled her stomach.

Doo-doo-doo-doo  Doo-doo-doo-doo  (supposed to be the TZ music)

However, I was never a big trekky (sp?).  My older brother was.

Uh Oh! I think we've lost the oarsman. Hopefully he's shutting down and getting ready to come home for the weekend.

WHAAAdda mean you're not a trekkie? First the peppers, and now this? Hmmmmm... Is there anything else we should know? LOL

Here I am, but a guy's gotta get some work done too you know.  For some reason they expect it.

*jumps up and dances around the room*

The sun is out! The sun is out! Oh how I've missed the sun!!!

Oh, I'm sure I'll get blocked eventually, if not already.  I know you trekkie's can get very protective.

There are probably lots of things you'll find out about me that are "freaking psycho" (<-a term I use often).  I have this theory that it's only the people that deny they have problems, that are the ones that actually do.

LOL...I have my share of problems. And...speaking of being blocked, I have been barred from most of the "female" clubs due to the fact that I don't like chocolate. I know, I've heard it's wrong! But it's just too darn sweet and makes me choke.
