Yes, both are about the Law of Attraction and how to make it a part of your daily life to more fully reach your potential.

one of our members, shakti, has posted some very helpful info on the law of attraction and visualization exercises for it in the past.

=)
My mom bought the book for me for Valentine's Day... I started reading it, but I haven't really gotten into it yet.

The philosophy behind it is really good and something that I totally agree with. Check out shakti's posts, they are very good!
Hey!

You know, the Law of Attraction is really my focus in life right now, and I'm currently developing a wellness business using the Law of Attraction as its base. I'm testing it out on some people for free right now, and it seems to be working well for them.

The other week, I saw 'the secret.' I have to admit, it annoyed me a little...I thought it was GREAT information and very inspiring, but I feel like their presentation of the Law of Attraction is a little misleading...I feel like it doesn't quite...epitomize it yet? I feel like everyone still wants it to be 'magical,' and it's not. It's a science.

The main thing that annoyed me, however, was the fact that there is a recording that has been around for at least 20 years (I'm not sure what time period it's from, but it's older), called 'the strangest secret' by earl knightingale. It is literally 'the secret,; it feels like 'the secret' people ripped him off, a little. I know they weren't claiming the law of attraction to be anything new, but my goodness they even ripped off the name he used! And they repeatedly used some of the same wording knightingale used in his recording. All this without due credit to the late knightingale.

But, anything that brings it mainstream, I'm all for. I'm just worried the right message won't get communicated.
Shakti-- I've actually heard whispers about copyright infringement lawsuits from whoever took on IP rights after Knightingale passed away...
Heh, I don't know much about the book or about the Law of Attraction (though I'll probably google it now) but I certainly keep track of IP lawsuits ;)
I think the real "Secret" that the people selling the movie have discovered is the same secret employed by charlatans and snake oil salesmen throughout the ages. Everyone wants to get the things they want without having to work, and they will pay someone who gives them hope that it's possible. By the time they discover it isn't, the salesman is long gone.

Sure, positive thinking works - when it is followed by positive action. You can't sit around the house wishing for money, or wishing to be thin, or whatever. You still have to work for the things you want. Or you could win the lottery... but that still requires you to buy the ticket. Either way, the only thing you actually gain by buying The Secret is another shiny round piece of plastic and the pretty box it came in, and you lose valuable time from your life listening to hucksters spouting a bunch of New Age psuedoscientific babble.
My 17 year old has just gotten out of drug rehab and one of the discharge plans  she has is "The Secret" its something one of her counselors is doing.

I don't know what it is but if it helps her I'm all for it.
Just FYI guys- it is Earl Nightingale not Knightingale. In case you are trying to get more info.
I saw it, it's realy good!
Yeah I thought it was good too. You have to see it to understand. You can downlowd it for a 1 time fee of $4.95. Just Google "the Secret" or Rhonda Byrne.  I agree that the Law of Attraction has been around for ages but this is the first time it has been brought to "the masses"
bump
Oh, lovethebigdogs, but it's NOT the first time!

It's just not presented correctly...people won't really get it this time around, either! They are expecting magic, and it is not magic: it's science.
I watched this without having any idea about the law of attraction so I was really inspired by it. It has really helped me to change my perception and to really learn to think positive. I need to watch it again actually. :)
shakti its not science either... science has double blind reproducable tests and published results....    Im not saying anything about the validity of the Law of Attraction ...   it may be everything people claim it to be... but its not science. .. yet
you know what I think????  I think its what you want it to be.  At first, coming from a strict christian background, I was very skeptical....not sure about it thinking it was alot of freaky stuff or something.  But the more I watched it , over and over and over again, I realized it was just what they were saying.  Its what you need it to be.  Its science and "religion", spirituality, cosmic....etc.

Its EVERYTHING!!!!  If it motivates you, makes you feel good, makes you feel and want to be positive, happy and helps you....then I see it as a wonderful tool.

:)
Watch 'What the Bleep Do we Know', neversaydiekai. The science I'm talking about is Quantum Physics and the way it relates to concepts like the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction is common sense. You don't magically become what you think about; you define yourself a certain way and therefore start to make decisions from that standpoint, which of course would support the new definition of yourself until you become it. Psychologically, it's plain and simple. Metaphysically...it starts 'sounding weird', but that's just because they use language that is cringabley 'new age.'

It's more simple than people make it, and it is just like saying 'the sky is blue.' Simple, but is the sky really blue, or is our atmostphere simply reflecting blue back to our pupils? Fact is, what matters is the fact that we see the color blue. It's almost existential, in a way.

It's nothing new, it's NOT a secret, it was never 'suppressed' as the 'author' of The Secret says it was; it's just difficult for some to wrap their minds around.
By the way, I'm not so sure 'positive' is the best thing for us. Of course, as human beings we have a drive for survival, and that which is positive is 'pro survival' for us...BUT, a Garden of Eden type life would demand no emotional or spiritual growth, and personally, I beleive that's part of the point of the game of Life.

A lot of it is taking a step back and observing life non-judgementally: there is no 'good' or 'bad.' Only experiences. And some tragedies bring about tremendous clarity and growth for those involved that wouldn't have happened otherwise. Sometimes, things happen so we face our fears.

There are quite a few problems I have with the way the Law is presented in The Secret, and with the Law in general. But still, I think it's a good book and a good documentary. Does that even make sense?? Okay, I'm done now!
