The secret to living long!

Quote  |  Reply

I just heard from a doctor that a recent study done on people who were quite old and healthy found that they had two things in common:

1) regular exercise (duh?) :D

2) eating 2oz of nuts a day

The whole nut thing surprised me, especially because I always associate nuts with too much fat, but perhaps I will have to rethink that! Apparently it has something to do with the antioxidants.

Well, since you didn't specify what kind of nuts I'll assume anything goes.

yep, any nuts.

My dear departed gran, a little dumpy woman who I never saw eat a nut or do formal exercise and who had a fairly poor diet, lived to be 97.  My Dad (her son), now 70, has been fit, slim and healthy his whole life, used to be a distance runner, eats a good diet (nuts are a favourite), doesn't drink or smoke... is now suffering from Parkinsons Disease.

I say when your number's up, it's up.  Look after yourself but don't think that makes you immortal.

That's a very good and true point, I was just saying this to show perhaps the importance of nuts, not that it necessarily makes you live to 103.

Secrets To Living A Long Life:

- Eating LOADS of vegetables

- Exercising EVERY day for an hour OR more!

- Keeping a positive attitude & mindset

- Eating lean (free ranged) meats (because they are FULL of b-vitamins)

- Supplementing your diet with supplements

- Getting enough good fats in your diet from fish, nuts, egg yolks (omega enriched) & free-ranged meats

- Giving yourself at least 15 minutes a day of alone time to DESTRESS because stress AGES you!

bahahahaha, CD, i don't know if you really meant it that way. but i totally went there. i don't think it's necessarily "anything"....

hahaha, nice.

oh, and giasbash, yours is probably a lot more accurate than mine :D

I know this thread was posted sometime ago, but I couldn't resist. My husband and I always joke that the 3 secrets to living long: smoking, drinking, and whoring... as the "healthy-types" never seem to make it that long.

P.S. Not that we do anything on that list... it is just a result of observation!
